-
Tonic98 HI! i wondered if anyone could help me
-
Tonic98 Daemon will not let me transfer coins says its too busy try back later
-
gingeropolous Tonic98, are you using your own daemon or remote?
-
Tonic98 local node

Tonic98 i downloaded the newer version of gui wallet
-
Tonic98 im on mac OS 11.7

gingeropolous Tonic98, there's somewhere in the GUI you can enter commands into the daemon to see whats its doing
-
Tonic98 yes
-
Tonic98 i entered status in there
-
Tonic98 i dont understand code
-
gingeropolous thats ok. neither did i
-
gingeropolous what did it spit out?
-
gingeropolous well i still don't. but i can work the daemon cli sometimes :)
-
Tonic98 well its not connecting to the node now

Tonic98 it was connected a minute ago with everything sync
-
Tonic98 uhj
-
Tonic98 ugh
-
gingeropolous ah what th ehell there's no pruning int he gui?
-
gingeropolous wait, its not connecting to the node?

Tonic98 nope
-
Tonic98 yes
-
Tonic98 its says it disconnected, i tried closing down and its just working and working
-
gingeropolous its trying to save its state or something
-
Tonic98 looks like its working checking local node status but its frozen
-
Tonic98 i cant close it
-
Tonic98 im going to have to start the computer again
-
gingeropolous well, at this point either wait for it to close nicely or do whatever u do on a mac to force things to close

-
robert3223[m]1 alright is it a good time to buy right now?
-
Inge- tonic98: are you running it in simple mode? try some other nodes?
-
tonic98 yes simple nod for now
-
tonic98 should i try advanced?
-
Inge- only if you want to download the 100GB blockchain
-
Inge- but you might try a different node
-
tonic98 a local node perhaps?
-
tonic98 im not sure how to do that anymore since i am not given any option to do that

tonic98 Error: Couldn't connect to daemon: 127.0.0.1:18081
-
tonic98 im trying to connect to send coins and now I cant even access them
-
tonic98 Im very frustrated, i should be able to just transfer but couldnt even when I was sync and connected
-
tonic98 Ive downloaded it 3xs now and it seems to just have gotten worse
-
Inge- That error indicates that you *are* trying to connect to your local node. I'm afraid I don't have much experience with the Gui wallet. If you are in simple mode I would expect you should be able to still choose from a list of nodes, or enter the address of a node
-
Inge- If so, you could try for example node.supportxmr.com
-
Inge- Other fairly simple alternatives would be to restore your seed in Cake Wallet on iOS/Android or Monerujo on Androd. They rely on remote nodes so you do not need to download the entire blockchain - but scanning for your incoming and outgoing transactions still take a bit of time due to the privacy protections on the Monero blockchain
-
tonic98 yeah since I downloaded the newer version I dont see where i can choose simple node or advanced anymore. those options are no longer there when im in my wallet
-
Inge- Perhaps easier to get those things answered in #monero-gui
-
tonic98 im going to try cake wallet on my phone
-
tonic98 thanks for the tip
-
Inge- I think it is quite common to use one of the mobile wallets on a phone, and I would not be surprised if most of the people in here use the command-line wallet on a computer
-
tonic98 i just downloaded on my phone im going to try to access that way
-
mycorrhizae[m] Hey anyone have some good anonymous alternatives to localmonero for acquiring?

Inge- atomic swaps will be leet
-
mechanic41turk[m <Inge- "atomic swaps will be leet"> Is Cake wallet preparing for the atomic swaps by adding bitcoin to their software?
-
charolastra preparing for something that will come in ~2 years?
-
Inge- I think they see a market for eating into Bitcoin wallets too
-
Inge- and also make it easier for people who need a bitcoin wallet to have both in one app - as well as provide easier transition into XMR for those coming from the bitcoin side
-
Inge- but yeah, with Atomic swaps it will be even more interesting to have both
-
mycorrhizae[m] Is wxmr any good? The creator says they cover the underlying xmr but that sounds like it breaks a fundamental rule of crypto
-
mycorrhizae[m] Are wxmr holdings contractually available for exchange?
-
raecarruth wrapped xmr?
-
raecarruth i wouldn't touch it
-
raecarruth or anything eth related
-
vekin raecarruth: yeah... pay eth gas prices to facilitate the transfering of a proxy that isn't even really xmr
-
vekin i really really don't understand it
-
mmxxx[m] travala accepts xmr
-
Inge- mycorrhizae[m]: it is much like depositing your xmr onto an exchange.
-
mycorrhizae[m] Ya that's what it sounded like. I'll just watch it from a distance
-
vekin do people wrap xmr just to use the eth based defi?
-
mycorrhizae[m] I think they exchange xmr with the wxmr dev organization and they hold the xmr in trust
-
mycorrhizae[m] Supposedly you could redeem the wrapped xmr for xmr upon request
-
mmxxx[m] sounds like tether....

gingeropolous to change to advanced mode you have to goto the option to close the wallet
-
sethsimmons Can anyone using Tor/Tails/etc validate that these remote Tor nodes are working?
-
sethsimmons
-
sethsimmons I don't have access to my normal comp so can't check right now but want to be sure they're not having issues I'm not seeing with monitoring etc.
-
vdo[m] sethsimmons: I could curl those 3 using curl
-
vdo[m] s/curl/torsocks
-
sethsimmons Yeah, same here -- a user complained that wallet sync was broken, but it works properly over clearnet and the Tor services reply properly to curl so its probably PEBCAK.
-
sethsimmons Thanks for testing, vdo
-
vdo[m] np, thanks for hosting them o/
-
Jaska_ Wallet sync is just extremely slow over tor
-
vdo[m] btw, do you know any active blockexplorer with tx push on onions ?
-
vdo[m] couldn't find any the other day
-
sethsimmons <Jaska_ "Wallet sync is just extremely sl"> Yeah, it's a lot of data to request over Tor. Would always recommend someone run their own node instead, but like to expose the option for those that need it.
-
sethsimmons <vdo[m] "btw, do you know any active bloc"> I do not, sorry :(
-
tobtoht_
-
tobtoht_ one of your nodes did go offline for a few hours
-
tobtoht_ probably because monerod decided to temporarily ban traffic originating from the Tor daemon, check your logs
-
tobtoht_
-
tobtoht_ also feather wallet has a tx pusher tool that can push to a selected node over Tor
-
vdo[m] thanks

willcl_ark I'm getting a runtime error syncing on Debian 10, can I pastebin a stack trace here? Looks like it might be something to do with Boost...
-
fiono[m] hello!
-
fiono[m] anyone there?
-
donkeydonkey[m] hi
-
fiono[m] i have a question about the monero protocol
-
fiono[m] what would be the best way to get an answer?
-
marmulak wait for it
-
fiono[m] ?
-
dEBRUYNE fiono[m]: Just state your question here and someone will answer it
-
dEBRUYNE willcl_ark: Yes, just paste it here
-
willcl_ark
-
dEBRUYNE ^ moneromooo
-
fiono[m] ok, the question is about the public keys used in the ring signature
-
fiono[m] the protocol uses offsets to identify those pks in the blockchain
-
fiono[m] to save space
-
willcl_ark using boost 1.74 on Debian 10
-
fiono[m] but how do you know which pk is in which position?
-
fiono[m] are they ordered by the blocks, and by the order they appear in the block?
-
selsta willcl_ark: what happens if you start again?
-
selsta does it exit again instantly?
-
willcl_ark selsta: same thing unfortunately
-
willcl_ark yep
-
willcl_ark tried "db recovery", but no help
-
selsta can you post log with --log-level 2?
-
willcl_ark sure
-
willcl_ark Just looked into re-making and I did see some errors I missed during first build: 0bin.net/paste/79EP3r6K#EGIcgn5LuJCK3hbfUoHL3TXTzxkUjOS31XpvS+YdI9Y
-
willcl_ark not sure if those should be critial
-
selsta as long as it builds, no
-
willcl_ark selsta: I think it's working again. Sorry I might have messed up debugging as I upgraded some packages and re-installed a few others
-
willcl_ark I mean the log output is insane now, but seems no runtime errors now
-
selsta ok, the logs didn't have anything interesting
-
willcl_ark wait actually
-
willcl_ark there are now runtime errors
-
willcl_ark want to see this log, pretty verbose
-
selsta did you starr with log-level 2?
-
selsta start
-
willcl_ark yes
-
willcl_ark made a 30MB log in like, 1 minute
-
selsta ok then use 0 again
-
selsta 2 is only interesting if you have issues
-
willcl_ark I did have issues
-
willcl_ark wait to avoid spam, give me a minute
-
willcl_ark selsta: right. It has now advanced 500 blocks, so I think problem resolved (itself)
-
selsta are you using systemd?
-
willcl_ark interesting you ask. I have been yes, for all failures. when you asked me to change log level i stopped using it and used CLI
-
willcl_ark this "working" is *not* using systemd now
-
selsta maybe systemd stopped the daemon for whatever reason?
-
willcl_ark interesting
-
willcl_ark yeah it's systemd knackering it somehow. runtime errors right away if i start via systemd. No clues in journalctl...
-
willcl_ark running via CL again works fine
-
willcl_ark selsta: hmmm seems I was mistaken again (sorry!) I assume watching it run on the CL that it was fine, as sync was progressing, but the runtime_error actually persists still in the logs. So it seems that it's both syncing ok, and experiencing runtime errors?
-
moneromooo fiono[m]: both
-
moneromooo willcl_ark: there seems to be nothing wrong in those logs. Try with --log-level 1, it should show why it's stopping. Without those logs, it looks like a normal/manual exit.
-
willcl_ark moneromooo: yeah it doesn't actually stop, which I kinda didn't notice. It's just continously logging runtime errors
-
willcl_ark while progressing with sync
-
moneromooo So... it's working ?
-
willcl_ark Correct. but it's working with continual runtime errors being stack traced in the logs (at all log-levels)
-
willcl_ark is that, normal? I didn't see any for the first 50% of the sync or so, but am now at 95% and it looks like each block synced triggers a stack trace
-
hyc prob randomx exception
-
moneromooo If it spams too much, you can run with --log-level 0,stacktrace:FATAL. Yes, it's normal.
-
willcl_ark oh, ok
-
moneromooo You might have not had huge pages enabled or enough memory.
-
moneromooo THere's a patch somewhere on github that decreases the spam.
-
hyc been thinking I should rewrite librandomx in C and get rid of that exception crap
-
willcl_ark will it look like this for monero.conf? `log-level=0stacktrace:FATAL`
-
moneromooo No. You wnt a comma after 0.
-
willcl_ark thanks
-
willcl_ark ok. monerod still working and log now in an acceptable state. thanks all
-
