styxx[m] is someone using the ledger hardware wallet?
-
sir_poppins[m] i dont think you can have monero on the ledger wallet
-
sir_poppins[m] they say it will be coming soon
-
styxx[m] you can use it in combination with the monero wallet
-
styxx[m] those hardware wallet are a waste anyway
-
styxx[m] * those hardware wallets are a waste anyway, dont even know why i bought one
-
sir_poppins[m] XD XD XD XD
-
Ejderha[m] <styxx[m] "those hardware wallet are a wast"> Why do you think so
-
mmxxx[m] <styxx[m] "those hardware wallet are a wast"> are you saying just ledger or all of them are a waste?
-
mycorrhizae[m] Ledger specifically
-
mycorrhizae[m] I got a blue
-
mycorrhizae[m] Should've kept the crypto
-
mycorrhizae[m] Its finicky. Just use mobile wallets and a paper wallet bank
-
mycorrhizae[m] You know what's better than carrying any amount of money in your pocket? Carrying it in your head.
-
charolastra you can't make a backup of your head
-
mmxxx[m] a backup of your brain would be in written form...
-
mmxxx[m] might as well make it digital to begin with
-
mycorrhizae[m] I meant mnemonic
-
mycorrhizae[m] Just remember the seed
-
dEBRUYNE <sir_poppins[m]> they say it will be coming soon <= Link?
-
Inge- the nice thing with a Ledger / Trezor is that you can actually access your wallet, and spend from it, without exposing your private keys to a device exposed to malware
-
Inge- remembering a seed is nice, but you need to a) enter it into *some computer* to generate the address so you can send funds to it, and b) if you want to spend from it, you also need to "expose" it on a computer ...
-
sir_poppins[m] <dEBRUYNE "<sir_poppins[m]> they say it wil"> ledger.com/supported-crypto-assets
-
dEBRUYNE You can use it with the GUI, yes
-
dEBRUYNE Not in Ledger Live as far as I can see

kltrpdupss Dear fireice_uk. I must strongly object to you reporting our great Monro community members to Freenode for racism AND getting people K-lined as a result! i.imgur.com/R0T9GGY.png THEY ARE NOT NEO-NAZI!!! THEY ARE JUST SAYING NEO-NAZI THINGS!! i.imgur.com/JYu44As.png I know this because they have been nice to me and made me their Magical Crypto Friend! If you don't cease immediately I shall throw another tantrum!

ndorf what a way to spend one's time.
-
oozebrood wow
-
styxx[m] <mmxxx[m] "are you saying just ledger or al"> im only familiar with ledger - its unnecessary because you can just use a paper wallet instead
-
styxx[m] > <@mmxxx:matrix.org> are you saying just ledger or all of them are a waste?
-
styxx[m] * im only familiar with ledger but others are the same probably - its unnecessary because you can just use a paper wallet instead
-
ndorf paper wallet can't replace a hardware wallet, the latter allows you to spend without revealing the private keys to the online computer.
-
sech1 ndorf you can sign transactions on an offline computer and only expose public view key to an online computer
-
ndorf true, and i personally use a second computer, not a hardware wallet. but a hardware wallet is cheaper than a second computer :)
-
sech1 Unless you already have old junk computer laying around
-
ndorf unless you're sick in the head like me and have around 12 old thinkpads lying around ;)
-
sech1 Nope, only 3 computers and 2 laptops here
-
vekin wish i could throw away these laptops without working fans
-
vekin but... i could buy a new fan...
-
ndorf though personally i don't bother actually airgapping the "secure" computer, just don't run anything else or allow any unwanted connections.
-
sech1 that still leaves you vulnerable to malicious updates
-
ndorf updates of what? the OS?
-
sech1 is there any guide on how to create transactions for signing and then sign them on an airgapped computer?
-
sech1 Yes, OS updates
-
ndorf assuming there is any need to update the OS in the first place, how is the risk greater than an airgapped machine that receives the same update from a USB disk or whatever?
-
sech1 wallet updates are hopefully can be checked with hashes/PGP signatures
-
ndorf OS updates are definitely checked with PGP signatures
-
sech1 airgapped machine can't leak private keys
-
ndorf that is of course true. i'm just confident enough that this machine won't leave my private keys
-
ndorf leak*
-
ndorf actually, an airgapped machine could still leak the private keys by encoding them into tx_extra or something, no?
-
sech1 it depends on where tx_extra is generated
-
sech1 I think it's generated before signing?
-
sech1 But that's a valid vector of attack. If compromised airgapped machine can leak even 1 bit per tx, it can eventually leak everything
-
moneromooo It's generated by both. First by the hot wallet, then the entire tx is regenerated by the cold wallet.
-
ndorf yeah but how would you ever notice? it's usually random and not displayed before confirming the tx?
-
moneromooo The hot wallet can't really re-check hte cold wallet used the same extra, since it's deemed pwned.
-
moneromooo But even then, malware could use something else, like leak bits via other bits like keys. Though not 32 bytes at a time probably.
-
moneromooo Still, checking extra is identical modulo tx key is maybe a good idea...
-
sech1 so is there a guide somewhere how to setup view-only wallet + airgapped wallet for signing?
-
ndorf i believe so
-
ndorf i can't find it now, but i thought i'd seen that on getmonero.org before
-
moneromooo Search monero.stackexchange.com, it's got one.

MindDrips Hello, I was wondering if I can receive some assistance with a wallet issue that I have?  Thanks
-
mfoolb MindDrips: ask away.. someone will get to you
-
-
MindDrips Well it’s a classic case of not being able to access my wallet. I don’t have the seed phrase but I do have the .key files. The password I’m using is not accepted, which then prompted me to try every single password that I use across all databases and devices. I seem to have “A” private spend key but I’m not completely sure if it’s
-
MindDrips related to the wallet or not. The time stamp matches the creation date of the wallet so I’m assuming its indeed related to the wallet that I can’t seem to access. Thanks for your help!
-
neetpill[m] How are my fellow Monero Chads feeling this fine evening
-
-
MindDrips Well, thanks
-
mycorrhizae[m] I dont feel so good bros
-
mycorrhizae[m] How are you
-
mycorrhizae[m] So the xmrig will not tell me when I've successfully been awarded. It will just go to my account
