10:12:57 is someone using the ledger hardware wallet? 10:14:49 i dont think you can have monero on the ledger wallet 10:14:49 they say it will be coming soon 10:15:31 you can use it in combination with the monero wallet 10:17:40 those hardware wallet are a waste anyway 10:18:00 * those hardware wallets are a waste anyway, dont even know why i bought one 10:20:27 XD XD XD XD 10:58:37 Why do you think so 11:00:51 are you saying just ledger or all of them are a waste? 11:05:50 Ledger specifically 11:05:55 I got a blue 11:06:03 Should've kept the crypto 11:06:35 Its finicky. Just use mobile wallets and a paper wallet bank 11:07:11 You know what's better than carrying any amount of money in your pocket? Carrying it in your head. 11:09:07 you can't make a backup of your head 11:09:41 a backup of your brain would be in written form... 11:09:49 might as well make it digital to begin with 11:12:01 I meant mnemonic 11:12:11 Just remember the seed 11:12:59 they say it will be coming soon <= Link? 11:55:26 the nice thing with a Ledger / Trezor is that you can actually access your wallet, and spend from it, without exposing your private keys to a device exposed to malware 11:56:19 remembering a seed is nice, but you need to a) enter it into *some computer* to generate the address so you can send funds to it, and b) if you want to spend from it, you also need to "expose" it on a computer ... 12:01:59 they say it wil"> https://www.ledger.com/supported-crypto-assets/ 12:02:49 You can use it with the GUI, yes 12:02:54 Not in Ledger Live as far as I can see 12:03:31 :( 19:36:50 Dear fireice_uk. I must strongly object to you reporting our great Monro community members to Freenode for racism AND getting people K-lined as a result! i.imgur.com/R0T9GGY.png THEY ARE NOT NEO-NAZI!!! THEY ARE JUST SAYING NEO-NAZI THINGS!! i.imgur.com/JYu44As.png I know this because they have been nice to me and made me their Magical Crypto Friend! If you don't cease immediately I shall throw another tantrum! 19:36:50 Monero Community Member PS. You are interrupting my session of masturbation to The Man in the High Castle. 19:37:15 o_0 19:37:39 what a way to spend one's time. 19:39:54 wow 19:52:28 im only familiar with ledger - its unnecessary because you can just use a paper wallet instead 19:53:20 > <@mmxxx:matrix.org> are you saying just ledger or all of them are a waste? 19:53:20 * im only familiar with ledger but others are the same probably - its unnecessary because you can just use a paper wallet instead 20:31:49 paper wallet can't replace a hardware wallet, the latter allows you to spend without revealing the private keys to the online computer. 20:38:20 ndorf you can sign transactions on an offline computer and only expose public view key to an online computer 20:38:59 true, and i personally use a second computer, not a hardware wallet. but a hardware wallet is cheaper than a second computer :) 20:39:27 Unless you already have old junk computer laying around 20:39:42 unless you're sick in the head like me and have around 12 old thinkpads lying around ;) 20:39:54 Nope, only 3 computers and 2 laptops here 20:40:38 wish i could throw away these laptops without working fans 20:40:44 but... i could buy a new fan... 20:41:17 though personally i don't bother actually airgapping the "secure" computer, just don't run anything else or allow any unwanted connections. 20:43:07 that still leaves you vulnerable to malicious updates 20:44:10 updates of what? the OS? 20:44:19 is there any guide on how to create transactions for signing and then sign them on an airgapped computer? 20:44:21 Yes, OS updates 20:45:10 assuming there is any need to update the OS in the first place, how is the risk greater than an airgapped machine that receives the same update from a USB disk or whatever? 20:45:14 wallet updates are hopefully can be checked with hashes/PGP signatures 20:45:25 OS updates are definitely checked with PGP signatures 20:45:32 airgapped machine can't leak private keys 20:46:14 that is of course true. i'm just confident enough that this machine won't leave my private keys 20:46:54 leak* 20:48:52 actually, an airgapped machine could still leak the private keys by encoding them into tx_extra or something, no? 20:50:24 it depends on where tx_extra is generated 20:50:32 I think it's generated before signing? 20:51:07 But that's a valid vector of attack. If compromised airgapped machine can leak even 1 bit per tx, it can eventually leak everything 20:51:14 It's generated by both. First by the hot wallet, then the entire tx is regenerated by the cold wallet. 20:51:17 yeah but how would you ever notice? it's usually random and not displayed before confirming the tx? 20:51:37 The hot wallet can't really re-check hte cold wallet used the same extra, since it's deemed pwned. 20:52:24 But even then, malware could use something else, like leak bits via other bits like keys. Though not 32 bytes at a time probably. 20:52:44 Still, checking extra is identical modulo tx key is maybe a good idea... 20:53:13 so is there a guide somewhere how to setup view-only wallet + airgapped wallet for signing? 20:53:18 i believe so 20:54:51 i can't find it now, but i thought i'd seen that on getmonero.org before 20:54:54 Search monero.stackexchange.com, it's got one. 21:42:50 https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/2160/how-do-i-use-cold-transaction-signing 22:20:26 Hello, I was wondering if I can receive some assistance with a wallet issue that I have?  Thanks 22:34:38 MindDrips: ask away.. someone will get to you 22:41:25 * styxx[m] uploaded an image: wise.jpg (50KiB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/tchncs.de/EKpOMlhCRCgHIDLTeyIsCMWq/wise.jpg > 22:47:34 Well it’s a classic case of not being able to access my wallet. I don’t have the seed phrase but I do have the .key files. The password I’m using is not accepted, which then prompted me to try every single password that I use across all databases and devices. I seem to have “A” private spend key but I’m not completely sure if it’s 22:47:34 related to the wallet or not. The time stamp matches the creation date of the wallet so I’m assuming its indeed related to the wallet that I can’t seem to access. Thanks for your help! 22:49:17 How are my fellow Monero Chads feeling this fine evening 22:50:25 * mycorrhizae[m] uploaded an image: Screenshot_20210205-044303_Brave.jpg (45KiB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/tSAiUrXQjoIdtrwwxzVSGfdB/Screenshot_20210205-044303_Brave.jpg > 22:50:30 Well, thanks 22:50:30 I dont feel so good bros 22:50:48 How are you 23:02:38 So the xmrig will not tell me when I've successfully been awarded.
