I think everyone here knows that most Monero exchange withdrawals and desposits are traceable (Breaking Monero - poisoned outputs). How does it feel to go out and lie to people that they are private and then earn less than holding BTC on your bag?
-
xmrdog
he's left, but can we debunk this? isn't this was ring sigs are for? the "poisoned outputs" get mixed with other outputs, so who cares?
-
ErCiccione[m]
xmrdog: don't engage with the spammers please.

didn't have the balls to hang around for a retort
-
skengdaddy
don't use exchange platforms then bro
-
Inge-
skengdaddy: that is just spam. There isn't anyone listening on the other end.
-
skengdaddy
they bother to get bots to do that shit?

Inge-
something like that I guess

skengdaddy
what a waste of a bot, lol

I've got to ask, why do hardly any exchanges list Monero? I could only find a way to purchase it via a Dex
-
noraschmora
It's not like Monero is an unpopular crypto or anything
-
skengdaddy
which exchange doesn't have monero?
-
hyc
Dexs are the way forward anyway
-
hyc
ok folks, I see lots of good "how do I use monero" docs now, but what do you recommend for total newbies to crypto?
-
noraschmora
skengdaddy Coinbase, Bittrex (they list it but there's no option to buy) are the two that come to mind
-
noraschmora
hyc Hmm... I would recommend looking at the video by The Hated One. I think it's on both BitChute and YouTube
-
hyc
hm, The Hated One is a pretty big channel on youtube, got a specific title in mind?
-
noraschmora
It's called "Monero: More anonymous than cash"
-
hyc
thanks
-
noraschmora
You're welcome! :)
-
kristian_on_linu
cheers, is general crypto chat welcome here?
-
skengdaddy
noraschmora - I believe exchanges can't do it because they have restrictions on anonymous coins, need to be able to audit etc
-
moneromooo
If Monero related, or if not too much. Otherwise, go somewhere where it's on topic. That's why freenode has channels, not one large everything goes one.
-
charuto
kristian_on_linu: for general crypto chat maybe try #monero-markets
-
charuto
they're pretty fine with offtopic
-
kristian_on_linu
I'll have a look, charuto
-
noraschmora
skengdaddy Damn that's bs. But yeah, when you're a big centralized exchange, it makes sense
-
charuto
there's also #monero-offtopic but no one really chats there anymore
-
skengdaddy
noraschmora - but in my opinion, the whole point of crypto was to escape the corrupt bullshit financial system, so the fact it can't comply is a big bonus in my eyes
-
noraschmora
Yeah that's pretty cool
-
noraschmora
I do wish more places accepted Monero though. But given its status as a somewhat revolutionary/insurrectionary coin, it totally makes sense
-
sethsimmons
Keep using it where you can and encouraging merchants you love to accept it.
-
sethsimmons
It's an excellent digital cash, and is amazing at day to day payments.
-
sethsimmons
Nothing about its "revolutionary/insurrectionary" status makes it get low acceptance, IMO, merely that most people don't actually *use* cryptocurrency, but merely speculate on it.
-
sethsimmons
I use it every chance I get and it's incredibly freeing.
-
moneromooo
I view Monero as a defense against prying. It's almost certain the current fascist wave will grow before it gets better, and at some point they'll round people up again. And every database will be used to target people.
-
skengdaddy
^ strongly agreed
-
mfoolb_
will the absence from any database be a way more interestnig way of targeting people?
-
skengdaddy
I believe once BTC becomes part of the system, monero will go to the moooooooooon
-
moneromooo
Depends who you want to target. Current governments are more like this, yes. A future fascist power, maybe not.
-
moneromooo
Though if few enough people are "out", it might be conveninent to round them iup and check I guess.
-
mfoolb_
that's my point.. so we should work on acceptance :)
-
moneromooo
Another reason for more people to avoid getting caught in the machinery.
-
Inge-
noraschmora: only a few places have limits on privacy coins - australia and japan and south korea. You can get monero on Kraken, Binance, Tradeogre etc etc
-

abd ther eis the decentralized bisq, along with localmonero
-
Inge-
So shouldn't be very hard to get Monero
-
noraschmora
I must say, the source code for Monero is certainly interesting to look at
-
marmulak
I haven't looked at it, but I imagine it's all fucked up
-
oldgui
When I restore my old GUI wallet via seed in MyMonero it shows I have 0 XMR. Why? In the old GUI wallet the correct XMR amount is shown, but it's not connected and says "wrong version" in the bottom left corner.
-
noraschmora
Odd
-
dEBRUYNE
oldgui: MyMonero requires an import fee of 0.1 XMR for non-MyMonero wallets
-
dEBRUYNE
wrt the GUI, you ought to update it to v0.17.1.9
-
hyc
the code is quite definitely not very clean
-
oldgui
I got the new GUI and it works now (y)
-
oldgui
Still need to get a couple of hundred thousand blocks '=D
-
oldgui
Thank you!
-
dEBRUYNE
Good luck with the sync!

Monegro
xmr.to is only accepting transactions of .066 BTC?
-
Inge-
.btc
-
mmxxx[m]
.66 btc? Or .066 btc?
-
ndorf
sorry Inge- BTC has been delisted
-
Inge-
ndorf: !!
-
Inge-
Monegro: that is still like $2300
-
ndorf
yeah. turned out to be a pump and dump scam coin. oh well
-
Inge-
but yeah, they used to do up to like what, 20 BTC?
-
Monegro
not .66, but .066 BTC
-
Inge-
which is still like $2300
-
Monegro
...ok?
-
Monegro
not to reveal what I'm holding or want to transfer, but obviously it's at least $2301
-
Inge-
seems to be a daily limit of 0.2 btc as well there
-
Monegro
it says .2 BTC, but it auto changes my limit
-
Inge-
I think you would need to do multiple transfers of max 0.066 to reach the 0.2 limit
-
Monegro
whenever I put in [amount redacted] it changes it to .066
-
Inge-
There is also morphtoken
-
Monegro
I heard people say that they weren't accepting Tor connections
-
Monegro
I accessed morph just now from Tor, and they didn't have any warning messages
-
Inge-
No idea.

<silverdragon[m] "> <@rimugu:matrix.org> CoinMarke"> only if you think the value of monero will stay the same or go down.
-
bishgens[m]
Someone (allegedly) sent me XMR hours ago but balance is still zero and show_transfers shows nothing. status says Refreshed x/x, synced, What else can I do?
-
moneromooo
Make sure x is about 2285417, that the refresh-from-block-height setting in monero-wallet-cli is lower than the block height you estimate the tx to have been in.
-
bishgens[m]
x is only about 80000
-
moneromooo
Then wait for the daemon to be finished syncing the chain (it'll be faster if the wallet isn't running at the same time), then wait for the wallet to finish scanning the chain after it's done.
-
moneromooo
If both x are the same, it could be you're only connected to asshole peers, and are eclipsed.
-
moneromooo
In that case, use 0.17.1.9 if you don't have it, and optoinally run with --use-dns-blocklist, which should kick out most of them.
-
bishgens[m]
i don't think x has increased for the past hour. both x are the same
-
bishgens[m]
i think the disk space is too low
-
bishgens[m]
i use CLI wallet/daemon isolation with qubes+whonix. the daemon ran out of disk space. i don't think i want to run a node
-
ndorf
bishgens[m]: you can try pruned node, it only uses less than 1/3 as much space as the full chain
-
bishgens[m]
ndorf: Cool. How do I enable it?
-
bishgens[m]
that is still 30 gb. i think i have to use a remote node. i must read whonix documentation for advice i think
-
ndorf
run monerod with --prune-blockchain option, or issue prune_blockchain command in monerod console
-
ndorf
yes, it's still a little over 30GB. if that's too much, remote node or light wallet is your only option
-
ndorf
also those 2 things won't give back space already used (just mark it as free), so if you want to reduce an existing blockchain you need the monero-blockchain-prune utility
-
bishgens[m]
30 gb is only OK if i write it to another disk
-
ndorf
if you are starting from scratch though you only need one of the first 2
-
bishgens[m]
okay
-
ndorf
you can write to any disk you want, just use the --data-dir option
-
bishgens[m]
okay i will try
-
bishgens[m]
why is a remote node bad? i am on qubes-whonix, all trafffic between my wallet and remote node would go throu Tor any way
-
ndorf
remote node isn't too bad, and you can always switch to your own node later if you want
-
ndorf
syncing the wallet will be slower, doubly so if using tor
