I have mainnet too. just wanted to test stagenet first.

bigslim[m]
seriously tho who did the wallet translations for Pirate?
-
bigslim[m]
create argh new wall't!
-
bigslim[m]
curious though as to the reasonings release binaries were moved offline from Github to private server? Did Hillary join the Monero team or something?
-
bigslim[m]
also FYI license file supplied with GUI has outdated Copywrite date
-
viperperidot[m]
Is there a way to get the GUI to stop asking to download the latest version if you have already installed it?
-
nioc
you have 0.17.1.0 ?
-
nioc
not 0.17.0.1
-
nioc
other than that I know nothing about the GUI :)
-
bigslim[m]
0.17.1.0-cb1f3ad (Qt 5.12.8) is latest gui
-
bigslim[m]
slow/bad node maybe - 51.75.47.161:18080
-
viperperidot[m]
Oh shit
-
viperperidot[m]
I didn't know we went from 0.17.0.1 to 0.17.1.0
-
viperperidot[m]
Thanks
-
viperperidot[m]
Would I have missed the hard fork if I didn't notice that?
-
viperperidot[m]
Or is it just 0.17 that matters?
-
bigslim[m]
.17
-
nioc
viperperidot[m]: yes .17 for the fork but 0.17.1.0 has important fixes in it
-
bigslim[m]
moneromooo: I have a peerlist for you. Seems there are a TON of peers with 1/20 or 20/183 blocks maybe slowing me down on sync
-
bigslim[m]
nm those look like checkpoint verifications
-
viperperidot[m]
Ok I downloaded the latest version but now I am getting an error when trying to open a wallet with a ledger
-
viperperidot[m]
Might go back to old version for now..
-
bigslim[m]
it appears I am only DL at 70kb/s per the daemon output
-
viperperidot[m]
Dammit now the previous version won't let me open my wallet either
-
bigslim[m]
Aeon daemon is running 786kb/s in parallel on same setup.
-
viperperidot[m]
nioc: Has anyone else had issues with ledger wallets on the latest version?
-
nioc
viperperidot[m]: not sure, ledger did release an update on their side a day or 2 ago
-
nioc
I used to have time categories for memory
-
nioc
now I am just happy if I remember that something happened
-
viperperidot[m]

-
viperperidot[m]
that*
-
viperperidot[m]
<nioc "I used to have time categories f"> That worked thanks a bunch!
-
viperperidot[m]
I need to remember to check that before asking anyone
-
bigslim[m]
heh this is funny how the cli daemon mines at 7kh and xmrig mines at 6.1kh
-
nioc
np, glad it worked :)
-
manic5150
hey im having trouble with the miner can anyone help me please?
-
Inge-
viperperidot[m]: alternatively, 0.17.0.x should work fine while you wait for ledger of it isn't out yet
-
alexanarcho[m]
btw, whatever happened to snipa? is he not the lead maintainer now? not hearing a whole lot from him
-
Snipa
You rang?
-
Snipa
I slip in, merge code, then vanish again. :) My day job keeps me fairly busy most of the time. Unfortunate side effects of ending up in the position I did.
-
alexanarcho[m]

-
alexanarcho[m]
alright cool, you can vanish again :D just wanted to confirm you are still around
-
Snipa

-
manic5150
why do i keep getting a error message whent trying to mine with the monero gui app?
-
alexanarcho[m]
whats the error?
-
manic5150
well i click the Start Mining button
-
manic5150
then a window pops up and says
-
manic5150
error starting mining
-
alexanarcho[m]
is there an error code?
-
alexanarcho[m]
are you fully synced with the node?
-
alexanarcho[m]
are you using 17.1.0 as a wallet version?
-
manic5150
yes im fully synced
-
manic5150
no error code
-
manic5150
yes useing newest version
-
manic5150
anything it could be?
-
alexanarcho[m]
mhm. i m not an expert when it comes to mining, have you tried turning it off and on again? 🙂
-
manic5150
lol yeah tryed that
-
Inge-
Most miners would use a dedicated mining program like xmrig
-
manic5150
i have that just not sure if its runing correctly
-
manic5150
also want to know why the monero miner gui isent working for me?
-
Inge-
for general mining stuff, #monero-pools is good
-
Inge-
But I guess most there won't be mining via GUI
-
manic5150
why im asking everywhere
-
manic5150
=D
-
Inge-
if you are running the monerod in a separate window, you can start the mining from its console

hmm I modifed out_peers from 8 to 16 and it started syncing again.. how come?
-
selsta
algo_max[m]: troll peers that feed you with your own block heights to mess with the network / analyze it
-
boldsuck
Has anyone run their Monero node over Tor? I'm looking for a Monero-node stagenet or mainnet onion P2P address. add-peer=
-
xmrmatterbridge
<rbrunner7> selsta: Do they seem to become a lot more common / numerous than a few months ago when that shit started, or does that only seem so? What do you think?
-
xmrmatterbridge
<rbrunner7> When they interferred with testing some new code of mine half a year ago or so sometimes it was quite difficult to catch one of those to debug what happens with them
-
algo_max[m]
selsta: anything I can do about that? My node stops syncing like once every week... does increasing out_peers help so chances are higher that at least one node is real?
-
selsta
algo_max[m]: increasing out_peers should help, yes
-
selsta
you can also add known good priority nodes
-
algo_max[m]
What would be a reasonable value for out-peers for a public node?
-
selsta
I don’t know, I set mine to 64 on a server and works fine, 16, 32 should also be good.
-
selsta
rbunner7: they do seem to be more common now, with multiple chainanalysis companies trying to break monero no wonder lol
-
selsta
rbunner7 ^
-
selsta
can’t type today lol
-
algo_max[m]
I never understood why the default of out-peers is 8 (seems low), while in-peers is unlimited.. I'll give 64 a try and see if it becomes more stable.
-
selsta
algo_max[m]: we are thinking about increasing it
-
selsta
you can also start with e.g. --add-priority-node node.xmr.to:18080
-
selsta
so that you always have one good known peer, though that should not be necessary
-
selsta
the other possibility is that there is a bug with syncing in v0.17.1.0 but I doubt that as no code in that region was touched
-
selsta
and we have evidence of troll peers
-
algo_max[m]
I had the same problem with 0.16
-
algo_max[m]
So its been a while..
-
selsta
only happened once to me yet
-
algo_max[m]
Once every week here since I run this node :/
-
selsta
you can also try deleting p2pstate.bin to get completely fresh peers
-
algo_max[m]
But I'll try the priority node and out-peers 64 and see how it goes
-
algo_max[m]
Will report back next week if it happens again :)
-
xmrmatterbridge
<rbrunner7> selsta: Alright. I do wonder what "analysis powers" you win if you interfere with other daemons' syncing process.
-
algo_max[m]
<selsta "you can also start with e.g. --a"> it should be port 18081, shouldn't it?
-
algo_max[m]
RPC
-
selsta
18080 is p2p port
-
selsta
you want p2p
-
selsta
rpc is for wallet
-
algo_max[m]
Are you sure? Because in the docs they have an example with 18081:
monerodocs.org/interacting/monerod-reference
-
algo_max[m]
Example:
-
algo_max[m]
./monerod --add-priority-node=178.128.192.138:18081
-
xmrmatterbridge
<rbrunner7> Those examples look really strange. Could be a typo. 18080 is definitely the default port for Monero mainnet p2p traffic.
-
selsta
most likely error in the docs, I am sure it is 18080
-
xmrmatterbridge
-
xmrmatterbridge
<rbrunner7> Doesn't get any clearer than that :)
-
algo_max[m]
selsta:
-
algo_max[m]
selsta: alright, node restarted with out-peers 64 and the prio node.. its ip also shows up in print_cn.. looks good, I'll see how it goes the next few days
-
selsta
ok, should be good now
-
moneromooo
algo_max[m]: set_log 1, it will tell you more.
-
algo_max[m]
moneromooo: ill try next time.. i didn't see anything useful with set_log 1, so i played around with set_log +/-<xxx>, screwed up the log output and didn't know how to reset it :/ better luck next time
-
moneromooo
"set_log 0" resets to default.
-
algo_max[m]
😂 good to know
-

horsepatat
hello, I failed to prune that bloody lmdb after 3 days of running it
-
horsepatat
can I just purge it and run monerod with --prune-blockchian and it synced it from scratch?
-
horsepatat
and it synces the pruned version from scratch
-
moneromooo
Yes.
-
horsepatat
kk
-
moneromooo
What failed ?
-
moneromooo
(in more detail)
-
horsepatat
took 3 or more days and still nowhere near finishing pruning
-
moneromooo
Ah. Probably not failed then, but yes, it's slower than syncing. Weded in disk access I think.
-
moneromooo
Wedged.
-
horsepatat
yea and it reads from same disks it writes to, so I figured that's where the issue is
-
moneromooo
Not sure why, it'd need looking at at some point.
-
selsta
make sure to run v0.17.1.0 and you can also add --sync-pruned-blocks for faster sync (?)
-
horsepatat
oh, new version already
-
horsepatat
so it's --sync-pruned-blocks and not --prune-blockchain if I do it from scratch?
-
» horsepatat renames the original lmdb dir for backup
-
selsta
both
-
selsta
--pruned-blockchain and --sync-pruned-blocks for a bit faster sync
-
selsta
if I understand it correctly
-
selsta
you can also only do --prune-blockchain
-
horsepatat
which I did and it took > 3 days and I give up
-
horsepatat
I need disks periodically for DB tasks when I turn off all coin daemons, this is the time.
-
horsepatat
will set fresh sync overnight
-
» horsepatat makes new monerod
-
moneromooo
--prune-blockchain prunes on the fly (when from scratch), --sync-pruned-blocks only downloads pruned data, and is only valid when pruning.
-
moneromooo
If you prune, --sync-pruned-blocks will speed up syncing if networking was your bottleneck.
-
moneromooo
Well, if network download speed was. If it was not finding peers, you'll still be slow.
-
horsepatat
okay
-
moneromooo
--sync-pruned-blocks is not the default and is rather new, so do report whether it worked ^_^

donkeydonkey
hi y'all. i am really diggin monero and would love to accept monero on my vegetable seed webStore. it seams like lots of the payment gateways are not functioning, so i am thinking bout integrating directly with the monero daemon. Any have experience with this?
-
asymptotically
donkeydonkey: hi :) what software is your web store using? i think that SerHack's monero-integrations project is still working fine - and you get to plug it into your own daemon and wallet
-
asymptotically
but talking to the wallet rpc yourself isn't too bad either. i think the docs might be slightly out of date, but you should just need "make_integrated_address" and "get_payments" -
getmonero.org/resources/developer-guides/wallet-rpc.html
-
moneromooo
Or you could use subaddresses insetad of integrated addresses. More modern.
-
asymptotically
yeah i guess spending an extra 20 minutes to use get_transfers instead of get_payments would be worth it
-
donkeydonkey
asymptotically: hi. its using custom software i wrote in Ruby on Rails
-
donkeydonkey
so you would create a subaddress for each transaction
-
moneromooo
Depends how your setup works.
-
moneromooo
Easiest is to assign a subaddress per customer.
-
fluffypony
per order you mean
-
fluffypony
most shopping cart systems choke otherwise
-
moneromooo
I didn't, I was imagining how I'd do it. I've only done tippero really so a pretty simple system.
-
moneromooo
Tippero did not have to differentiate between orders from the same customer.
-
azy
thats good for a balance, probably not for invoices

yes it's been noticed and discussed

conerns, not really

hyc
same as last time, somebody abusing Azure
-
monerouser1144
Thanks, I had already read that discussion. It seemed a little implausible to me (450.000 VMs)... I thought perhaps it had something to do with the recent contracts to trace Monero.
-
hyc
increased mining wouldn't help trace anything
-
hyc
it's entirely due to the price rise
-
hyc
-
monerouser1144
Thanks. LOL, I noticed that you too are using the "old" reddit UI, instead of the awful "new" one.

I don't know this is the right channel to ask, but I have a question about converting XMR to BTC over P2P or swap services (e.g. xmr.to): Is there a way to avoid "bad" (e.g. stolen, sanctiond etc) BTC ?
-
gingeropolous
well, luckily xmr.to gets its bitcoin right off of a fine exchange
-
gingeropolous
so, its got the exchange stamp of approval. I don't know which exchange it gets liquidity from these days, but most of them out there are AML KYC'd

Hmm, whitelisted but not linked. I think an 'onion' transaction has to come in first. I hope someone will post a stagenet node on reddit so I can test it
-
boldsuck
Have add-peer for all onion. Or one of them has to be a seed-node?

viperperidot[m]
Anyone here use xmr.to?
-
viperperidot[m]
I keep getting the message: Is the amount chosen maybe too high or too low?
-
viperperidot[m]
But it is within the range they allow..
-
viperperidot[m]
Does it work for segwit addresses?
-
sech1
hyc first block with CLSAG transaction will be 2,210,000 not 2,210,001
-

everyone will be staring ac xmrchain, waiting to see 1.74kb become a smaller number...

<viperperidot[m] "I keep getting the message: Is t"> I think I’ve heard people have that issue if they used too many decimal places in the amounts? But not sure
-
binaryFate
viperperidot[m]: the amount is probably invalid because you have too many decimal digits. BTC amounts can only have 8 digits after the ".", and XMR amount only 12
-
viperperidot[m]
Hmm I was using 12 digits for the xmr amount
-
asymptotically
binaryFate: woah, love the network map and the timeline
-
viperperidot[m]
Are there only certain bitcoin addresses they accept?
-
viperperidot[m]
If someone is not a 'merchant' will it still work
-
viperperidot[m]
Hold let me double check the digit amount
-
binaryFate
asymptotically: it's far from perfect, certainly does not crawl all nodes (maybe 50-75% only) but gives a good idea of proportion of how many people have updated
-
hundehausen[m]
How does the network upgrade work for the stagenet?
-
sethsimmons
IIRC stagenet already forked a while ago
-
sethsimmons
For testing
-
sethsimmons
But I could be wrong
-
selsta
yes
-
hundehausen[m]
and did the testnet have "hard forks" as well? I heard the testnet has the latest features activated for testing.
-
hundehausen[m]
* and does the testnet have "hard forks" as well? I heard the testnet has the latest features activated for testing.
-
selsta
yes, all networks have to fork and update
-
selsta
but it did a while ago already
-
hundehausen[m]
thanks guys, good to know
-
binaryFate
testnet sometimes goes wild to test stuff in advance, and it might be unstable or you might need the latest master or generally to follow latest developments. Stagenet casually forks usually 2 weeks before mainnet but otherwise is the same and does not require to follow closely.
-
binaryFate
testnet = test cool tech
-
binaryFate
stagenet = same as mainnet but worthless
-
moneromooo
:D
-
hundehausen[m]
For developers who build apps around monero the stagenet is very important. It is like a copy of the mainnet but with worthless coins so we can do lots of testing. I guess for TipXMR we have already done 2000 transactions.
-
binaryFate
yes testnet is good for protocol testing and stagenet app testing
-
ndorf
wait, stagenet coins are worthless?! shit.
-
ndorf
the lambo dealer is not going to be happy to hear that
-
viperperidot[m]
sethsimmons: & binaryFate thanks guys I doubled checked the digits and the transaction went through 👍️
-
donkeydonkey
@fluffypony so i could do a subaddress per order. with my server connected via rpc to the daemon which would be waiting on that subaddress to be funded then i could mark my order paid for?
-
hyc
sech1: well, the pevious contests all used block N+1 too, so I decided to stay consistent
-
hyc
and this avoids any ambiguity
-
hyc
also, come to think of it, the ambiguity is because block# and height are not the same
-

Can Monero GUI auto update on Linux, when it's run from the extracted tarball?
-
selsta
Should work, yes.
-
copenhagen_bram[
Does the Monero AppImage included in the tarball work on its own, or does it require files included with the tarball to work?
-
selsta
it is not a real appimage
-
dsc_
fake appimage!
-
selsta
it requires the other files, it is only used to allow starting from file explorer on tails / ubuntu
-
copenhagen_bram[
oof
-
copenhagen_bram[
i vote to throw that impostor AppImage out the airlock!
-
selsta
monero-wallet-gui is statically compiled so only it is required theoretically, and monerod if you want to run daemon
-
copenhagen_bram[
monero-wallet-gui.AppImage was An Impostor
-
boldsuck
@hundehausen Do you have an onion P2P stagenet address?
-
copenhagen_bram[
Will Monero ever have a flatpak?
-
selsta
most likely not unless someone contributes it
-
selsta
don’t see much benefit over static binaries
