hello
-
locustlord
anyone know if randomx is compatible with javascript mining?
-
locustlord
hey guys
-
louipc
i thought randomx is the javascript mining algo
-
locustlord
the SHA256 hash of the windows gui zip doesn't match the website
-
locustlord
can someone check the files?
-
locustlord
should I ping someone?
-
locustlord
it's considered compromised if it doesn't match the zip right?
-
locustlord
fluffypony
-
locustlord
maybe I'll ping him to check I think this is important
-
louipc
possibly compromised or corrupted
-
louipc
try downloading again
-
louipc
are you using https?
-
locustlord
yes I am
-
locustlord
I've deleted the file and redownloaded a few times I get the same hash every time on my end
-
louipc
oh
-
locustlord
I use https everywhere

Hello. I have downloaded new gui wallet, and there is no option to choose between local and remote node sync. What changed?
-
Flenst
I recently downloaded the GUI and I had the option when creating a new wallet
-
Flenst
It is a option when the GUI asks for the location for the blockchain. The other option is the remote node
-
Perkol
Is there a way to use remote node through tor?
-
rottensox
rbrunner: do you speak Spanish?
-
rbrunner
Well, I mostly read Spanish, but that quite fluently
-
rbrunner
Never actually had to speak so far ...
-
rottensox
ah.
-
rottensox
yet you understood the first episode of El Monero is my understanding?
-
rbrunner
Yes. The pronounciation was quite good, as was the audio quality
-
rottensox
glad to hear that...
-
rottensox
thanks again for tuning in.
-
rbrunner
And of course the subject quite known to me, which certainly helped
-
rbrunner
You are welcome
-
rottensox
haha. have you checked out the 2nd episode yet?
-
rbrunner
Ah, there is already a second one? Not yet.
-
rottensox
the audio has some hiccups here and there. hopefully 3rd won't have as many cutoffs.
-
rottensox
hold on. let me link you up.
-
rottensox
-
rbrunner
Thanks, will have a look later today

Second tweet in the thread has links to RSS feed, Spotify and Anchor.

rbrunner: Appreciated. Here's its thread on reddit. You may comment there, and bash on me as someone already did -

hehe.
-
rbrunner
Well, no good deed goes unpunished, as they always quip
-
rottensox
lol, yes indeed.
-

it's a bit confusing, that comment, but i guess i get it.

rbrunner
I think the remark about the 6 month fork schedule going back to pre-ASIC-tussles times is not wrong. They could have worded that a little friendler however
-
rottensox
yes... agree with you there.
-
rottensox
didn't even find willingness to respond to that comment to be frank...
-
rbrunner
Yeah ...
-
rbrunner
Do you sit in Europe, or in South America?
-
rottensox
neither.
-
rottensox
north america.
-
rbrunner
Ah, ok. Not much left :)
-
rbrunner
Doxxed you already :)
-
rottensox

Is there any page out there which lists stores that accept monero for payments?

man why is the mymonero wallet a node app?
-
Hail_Spacecake
why do so many people like making node apps?

<Snipa> Wait, they're on spotify? Oooh, might have to look it up. :D
-

Also, NodeJS is relatively easy to pick up, and makes frontend developers think they can write real code.
-
Snipa
Handy.

-
rottensox
great. we might start interviewing people somewhere down the road, if you're down to come on.
-
louipc
oh rite nodejs
-
rbrunner
Yes, NodeJS for programmers is something like a pact with the devil. They just don't seem all to know that.
-
Snipa
I mean, I went that route because the hashing libs were in node for the pools. :P
-
Hail_Spacecake
they're such a pain to build though
-
rbrunner
Devil: "Here, have a enormous mountain of complexity and thousands of third-party dependencies. But you will program *fast*"
-
Snipa
They're not particularly hard to build
-
Snipa
nvm makes it pretty easy to deal with.
-
louipc
make the non-node apps bros
-
louipc
for the good of humanity
-
Snipa
I've been moving everything to go, but haven't wanted to burn time on rewriting RX in go yet.
-
louipc
how do you feel about webassembly
-
Snipa
I don't hate it, but I hate browsers in general.
-
Hail_Spacecake
I've never tried to build a webassembly project meant to run on a pc
-
louipc
agreed
-
Hail_Spacecake
so I have no opinion about how that works
-
louipc
browser occult want to make it into an OS
-
Snipa
WASM is a neat idea. Accelerate webapps to be faster and more portable.
-
Snipa
What it really is though is, "Run more shit on chrome, because web devs can't manage to make a good backend application."
-
louipc
then theres gonna be a package manager in every browser too
-
louipc
i guess there is kinda already. addon/extensions
-
Snipa
I mean, there's serviceworkers.
-
ajs[m]
rottensox: could be fun, but I have a super heavy american accent though
-
Snipa
Why bother when your site can just install an auto-updater?
-
louipc
lol
-
rottensox
haha, well, we'll see if we ever decide to start doing interviews.
-
Snipa
Huh, my spanish isn't as bad as I thought it might be.
-
rottensox
good to know you speak it at the very least ajs[m].
-
rbrunner
One day we will migrate the whole community over to Spanish :)
-
Snipa
The classy answer would be to move it all to esperanto.
-
rottensox
i'm down.
-
rottensox
oh no, for that no.
-
rottensox
lol.
-
louipc
erm #monero-es?
-
Hail_Spacecake
¿por que queremos hablar en español?
-
rottensox
¿por qué no?
-
rottensox
south america benefits from cryptocurrencies bigly with all the currency controls, inflation and corrupted governments...
-
rottensox
once we knock out the baselines for the fundamentals and news it'll be fun to discuss topics like that on the pod. :)
-
Hail_Spacecake
you know it's interesting
-
Hail_Spacecake
I've heard about venezuelans using bitcoin
-
Hail_Spacecake
but not any other cryptocurrency
-
rottensox
bitcoin is the most well-known, as pretty much anywhere in the world.
-
Hail_Spacecake
and I think cases like venezuela are a good real world testing ground for privacy-preserving and anti-censorship cryptocurrencies
-
rottensox
but dash, bitcoin cash and even nano are tossing a truckload of monies in marketing to make venezuelans aware of them, yet the actual use is little if not existent.
-
rottensox
pure bullshit.
-
Hail_Spacecake
so it's worth asking what is stopping ordiray people there from using bitcoin more, or using monero, or using some other currency more
-
Hail_Spacecake
or maybe they are and it's just not being reported
-
rottensox
i talked about that on monero talk. said I hate Dash twice in less than 18 minutes.
-
rottensox
Dash bitches were mad at me.
-
rottensox
:^)
-
Hail_Spacecake
I don't know anything about dash actually
-
Hail_Spacecake
I have not personally bothered to look into most cryptocurrencies
-
rottensox
good.
-
rottensox
focus on btc and xmr.
-
Snipa
Why bother when you've got Monero? :P
-
rottensox
the rest is noise.
-
Hail_Spacecake
monero and zcash I care about becuase they're the only ones I know of that try to preserve privacy
-
rottensox
wellllllllllllll...
-
rottensox
don't mention the other.
-
rottensox
or we'll start having fites.
-
Snipa
Grin's apparently fell apart from what I was told.
-
Hail_Spacecake
ah, right, yeah, the mimblewimble thing
-
Hail_Spacecake
and yes I did hear a thing in the tech news about how it's not as privacy-preserving as claimed
-
Snipa
Yeah, my ex-ceo was working with a company that was big into it.
-
rottensox
zcash? ya, nah.
-
Hail_Spacecake
so what's wrong with zcash?
-
rottensox
opt-in privacy is... not private.
-
rottensox
opt-in privacy is... not private.
-
rottensox
that.
-
Hail_Spacecake
I assume you mean that the fact that zcash as a systme makes it possible in principle to do a public transaction
-
Hail_Spacecake
is bad for the prviacy of everyone using it, even if they are using private transactions?
-
rottensox
hmm...
-
asymptotically
people only opt-in if they have something to hide (because it takes like 5000 gigs of ram and 300 hours of cpu time to create a private zcash transaction) so you look bad for using the shielded pool
-
rottensox
only a tiny percentage of the entire network uses shielded addresses. gets easier to know who's being private vs. who's being public there.
-
asymptotically
and the anonymity set is smaller
-
rottensox
monero is privacy by default.
-
Snipa
Default public vs default private is part of that equation.
-
Hail_Spacecake
so it's a systemic issue
-
Hail_Spacecake
I've been trying to learn more about zcash recently
-
rottensox
-
Snipa
If they'd done shield by default, it would be much better, but to calculate a private txn is not efficient with a goal of rapidly moving funds fue to building the transaction's computation.
-
Hail_Spacecake
I bought a few coins on coinbase, sent them to my transparent address, and then sent those coins from my t-addr to my z-addr
-
Hail_Spacecake
and that step didn't seem to take a long time
-
Hail_Spacecake
so it's not my cpu time and ram being spent, anyway :)
-
Hail_Spacecake
but yeah I don't know much about the actual computation model behind either zcash or monero
-
Hail_Spacecake
bitcoin I understand at a high level but I don't get the crypto primitives there either
-
Hail_Spacecake
rottensox: yeah I'm more sympathetic to this argument:
twitter.com/BagsalotBTC/status/1192214412452487173
-
Hail_Spacecake
i.e. sometiems I do want to publicly exchange money and that should be possible to do
-
Snipa
View keys. :P
-
Snipa
That's why you have the option of providing a way to show funds moving.
-
Hail_Spacecake
ah oaky
-
Hail_Spacecake
I've heard about that concept before but never tried to use it in practice
-
Snipa
We use them all the time (Running a pool) as people will ask to confirm if a txn is done or not.
-
rottensox
opt-in transparency.
-
Snipa
So we can take the txn key and provide proof that their address was in the list of outpouts.
-
Snipa
*outputs.
-
rottensox
<Hail_Spacecake> i.e. sometiems I do want to publicly exchange money and that should be possible to do
-
rottensox
bitcoin lets you do that.
-
rottensox
monero lets you do it privately.
-
Hail_Spacecake
yeah
-
Hail_Spacecake
at the end of the day I don't think any one cryptocurrency needs to win
-
Hail_Spacecake
it's okay if there are multiple ones that are good at different things
-
Hail_Spacecake
I just learned about bisq and it's escrow model for doing cryptocurrency transactions, and that struck me as a really cool idea
