Ah nevermind, i have to go now. I delete it and will repost it later this evening

I will have to leave again soon, but in the meantime the post is up. It's nothing special tho, simply my opinion about the recent coinbase-related hype.
-
Mumuks[m]
<Guest49387 "Mumuks: are you judging the post"> Yes
-
Mumuks[m]
In this case the content is gone, but in general I always only judge by the title, saves time
-
Guest49387
...
-
Guest49387
Well, i really don't know how you can make an opinion about something only reading the title. That's just lazy and will surely lead you to wrong conclusions.
-
sethsimmons
Responded there, ErCiccione
-
sethsimmons
I definitely have a looser hatred of Coinbase than most, it seems, and have nothing against them listing Monero.
-
sethsimmons
It’s a permissionless system, we have to build Monero into a tool that does everything possible to grant even Coinbase users the most privacy and best digital cash once they withdraw, and push people to better solutions/preach “not your keys not your coins”.
-
Adreik
I find coinbase fees to be fairly high
-
Adreik
From what I remember of it
-
sethsimmons
Yup, there is literally nothing compelling about them other than their position as a common on boarding for new people to the space as a whole.
-
Guest49387
I think my point is being missed. I'm aware of the fact we cannot and don't want to avoid people listing Monero
-
Guest49387
i just find the hype about the Coinbase possible future adoption quite disappointing
-
Guest49387
but i answered you in the post sethsimmons
-
sethsimmons
Thanks.
-
sethsimmons
I in no way want people to use them, but I still wanted clarity around why they don’t list it, as I hear very often that regulatory risk is a huge stopping point for many people
-
sethsimmons
And Coinbase is often provided as the source for that worry
-
Guest49387
As i said in the post, i'm just happy if they don't list it.
-
Guest49387
I know it's probably not a popular opinion
-
Guest49387
but personally i fear that with the community getting bigger, we are losing a bit the cypherpunk vibe there was initially
-
Guest49387
which is expected
-
Guest49387
i just wanted my opinion to be out there :)
-
sethsimmons
Thanks for sharing, seriously!
-
sethsimmons
I wasn’t surprised to see that many who commented in favor of a listing in that thread are names I’m not used to seeing around here or Reddit normally.
-
sethsimmons
I often forget that there are still a ton of silent speculators lurking on Reddit etc.
-
Guest49387
Yeah. Let's not deny to ourselves that even if Monero's community is usually of higher quality than other currencies, most of the poeple in this environment just want their bags to have bigger value :P
-
Guest49387
I have to leave again, will be back in few hours.
-
sethsimmons
<Guest49387 "Yeah. Let's not deny to ourselve"> Sadly true 😅
-
sech1
Reverse psychology. As soon as the whole Monero community stands up and says "we don't want Coinbase", they'll list it immediately.
-

Nice, thanks for sharing!

Have there been any thoughts about adapting sth like the dao from decred into monero?
-
sethsimmons
Not seriously, it’s not an easy integration ATM as Decred relies on time-locked PoS tickets to handle voting on proposals.
-
sethsimmons
I know some within Decred are exploring some type of DAO-as-a-service to help other chains integrate into their DAO, but no firm roadmap etc.
-
sethsimmons
Without some sort of time-lock there would be many ways to game the system, so a lot of changes would likely have to happen for Monero to support a system like they use, and the CCS has been great so far for Monero!
-
sethsimmons
But never hurts to stay open and keep learning about options to help governance as Monero grows, IMO 🙂
-
xmrpow
I kind of like the dao because it would kind of reduce the fork mania in the crypto space
-
sethsimmons
Yeah, could definitely see something like it being helpful in the future once “rough consensus” gets more difficult in the future.
-
sethsimmons
But it’s much more complex to integrate something like that into a privacy-preserving system like Monero, as I’m not sure if amount commitments could work well with a coin-weighted voting system.
-
xmrpow
I think especially when things are growing it is getting more difficult to get some decent consensus
-
sethsimmons
For sure!
-
sethsimmons
I personally would be super interested in a cross-chain way to vote/find consensus.
-
sethsimmons
And I do love how Decred handles votes/funding/hard forks
-
xmrpow
Mabe they are going to find a way.
-
sethsimmons
Very clean and with clear signaling.
-
xmrpow
Would be cool
-
xmrpow
Arent you the guy who looked into haven?
-
sethsimmons
I’m in touch with some of their community trying to do exactly what I’m talking about 🙂
-
sethsimmons
If there’s progress or promise I’ll be sure to share, but it’s still very far off.
-
sethsimmons
<xmrpow "Arent you the guy who looked int"> Yeah I am
-
xmrpow
Do you know if they are planing to implement randomx?
-
sethsimmons
Haven’t heard anything about their PoW yet, don’t think that’s top of their list ATM
-
sethsimmons
But I’m not intimately involved in their community, so not really sure.
-
xmrpow
If there’s progress or promise I’ll be sure to share, but it’s still very far off. -> Would be nice.
-
xmrpow
Haven could be very cool if there would be the chainlink thing...
-
xmrpow
wouldnt
-
sethsimmons
Yeah, but so far no one has figured out the Oracle Problem, so it’s a necessary weak link (heh) at the moment
-
sethsimmons
But hopeful for future solutions to help resolve that
-
xmrpow
There is no other solution in the space to solve that problem?
-
sethsimmons
There has to be some oracle involved
-
sethsimmons
I don’t have a deep understanding of how Chainlink works/it’s pros/cons though
-
sethsimmons
But many projects use them so far
-
xmrpow
As far as I know its an ERC 20 token and that s somehow enough ;)
-
sethsimmons
Lots of projects like Chainlink claiming to have solved the oracle problem
-
sethsimmons
Yeah lol
-
xmrpow
All these tokens are bound to eth and this somehow frightens me.
-
sethsimmons
Yup 🙂 And recently the value of tokens surpassed that of Eth, certainly some weird security concerns becoming apparent.
-
sethsimmons
Not to mention total reliance on another chain is... scary
-
xmrpow
I would not mind that much if the base would be solid...
-
sethsimmons
And not massively pre-mined/moving to PoS 😉
-
sethsimmons
Not to mention it’s already practically unusable for most people due to cost
-
xmrpow
If they are ever going to launch that ;)
-
xmrpow
What is there current blockchain size?
-
xmrpow

-
xmrpow
hmm 289 gb...
-
xmrpow
Not that bad for their scale.
-
xmrpow
Are there some estimates about Moneros blockchain size when it would get to the scale of btc?
-
xmrpow
Wasnt it 2x or 3x bigger than btc?
-
sethsimmons
An Ethereum full node is well over 1TB
-
sethsimmons
They just sell a pruned node as full, and say a full node is an “archival node”
-
sethsimmons
If every Bitcoin user uses Bitcoin with privacy like Samourai, Bitcoin would actually have a larger blockchain on disk per my calculations
-
sethsimmons
About 33% larger
