Reading through the comments, it does not look like any Monero contributors took it this way. I barely was paying attention this morning, so I commented saying something along the lines of us trying to make the community better. I later edited the comment to say inclusivity is extremely important and that bigotry is not tolerated

I haven't seen the Monero Talk video, but I'm told the context in the video is not inappropriate

i think matrix automatically gave the [m] after your nick in freenode rooms some time ago, but then they gave the possibility to remove it.

i get the `[m]` on freenode to denote the message was from matrix, but not the parens on matrix when im using a matrix client 🤷‍♂️

It's typical (been done before by them) that we get a nice new selfhosted platform thanks to rehrar and pigeons, thanks a lot for that.

The Matrix guide has you register the nick itself and change nick to remove [m]. There was some nickserv cmmand I'm struggling to refind that links/associates two accounts that I used two or so years ago during the reg account required on channels lockdown due to spam

Technically the guide will work for what you visually want, but the lonking thing was nice because I could associate multiple aliases to the irc 'xmrscott' account as proof of identity

I think people got excited about the project (which everybody agreed is cool) and didn't realize we are accepting donation for a project whose only concrete promise is to create documentation. I also don't think the PR value of the project even remotely justify the funding.

Right, posting a cool project on Reddit will obviously get positive reception.

It's not about dividing the community. It's about giving free resources to a company basing the decision on hype instead of rational analysis. Anyway. The decision was made, i don't think it respected community consensus, but now we can just wait and see. I just hope that not too many resources of the Outreach workgroup will be dedicated to this external project
