Filecoin has so many problems right now. Closest we have currently to anything near what Filecoin is promising is Sia and BitTorrent Token with BTFS (it's a fork of IPFS). I think Storj works as well but Sia is better in almost every way, especially with adoption rate.

Should mention as well that BTFS, while it seems promising, is still in its infancy and doesn't have anywhere near the amount of features that Sia offers. Maybe that isn't needed but it's still nice to have some of them, especially if you store media files through Sia and wish to stream them to multiple people at the same times.

I wanted to play a bit around with monero and see what it is. So I launched monerod a couple of days ago. It says it is still syncing. (88%, 267125 left, 63% of total synced, estimated 20.4 hours left). I was wondering what is it doing exactly. Is it checking every block of the blockchain ?

walton, if you want to just play around with monero, you may want to look into getting either testnet or stagenet on your PC

How private is the MyMonero wallet?

it's pretty private overall but you have to trust the server operators not to disclose the viewkeys they store for you to scan in the background

The least private of all wallets, but still quite private on-chain. You share view keys with MyMonero so they have visibility into your transactions, but (so far) they are a trustworthy entity.

other than that it's kind of pseudonymous

I generally recommend others but I've heard great things about MyMonero overall.

It's by far the fastest/lightest as it's really the only lite-wallet so far.
