I'm trying the linux ARMv7 version again. Seg faults for me a couple of seconds after "Confirm password:"
-
fullmetalScience
Any quick way to get a first bit of insight, no debugging environment being available?
-
Steven_M
What's the new one-off address command for, how are they different to sub-addresses?
-
selsta
Steven_M: they are subaddresses
-
selsta
you can use one-off to create a subaddress at a specific index
-
Steven_M
what would be the point?
-
fullmetalScience
Some sexy ideas ...
-
fullmetalScience
Steven_M: The non-sexy ones would include using an index that matches a customers ID in your business, for example.
-
Steven_M
fullmetalScience: Oh, I see. Side note, so it's to help keep track of payments.
-
Steven_M
tyto
-
Steven_M
*typo
-
fullmetalScience
I don't know the original intention, but it allows for flexible things like the one mentioned.
-
Steven_M
fullmetalScience: Oh, I see, so it's to help keep track of payments.
-
Steven_M
fullmetalScience: what was its original intention? I must be missing something here.
-
fullmetalScience
You might be able to find something about it searching git log (or the repo on GitHub).
-
fullmetalScience
-
Steven_M
fullmetalScience: thanks
-
moneromooo
The original intent was to help people who sent monero to some subaddress with a silly index (not sure how they managed that, there might have been a bug earlier).
-
azy
sounds like i'll finally be able to retrieve my 0.05xmr from index 83457348573847348
-
Steven_M
moneromooo: oh, okay. Thanks. :-)
-
» Steven_M has to go, goodnight all. :-)

Whats a fairly valuable cryptocurrency to aquire yet easy to aquire?
-
moneromooo
Bitcoin.
-
expensivebead
If I wanted some what would I have to do?
-
dgod[m]
Does someone know about PayPal letting you buy crypto?
-
dgod[m]
I read something about that somewhere
-
expensivebead
I know of a intermediary who will buy it.
-
moneromooo
Find some exchange which sells some, send them some money from your bank account, exchange it for bitcoin, make a bitcoin wallet, withdraw bitcoin to your wallet.
-
Skirmant
you can always find people that sells buttcoin for cash
-
expensivebead
I'm looking to get that for free.
-
moneromooo
You may want an exchange that doesn't ask for "papers please!", won't work if you buy a lot.
-
expensivebead
Know where I should go?
-
expensivebead
I'm on that journey.
-
Skirmant
there's Bitcoin atm's with no identity verification
-
moneromooo
Ah, free bitcoins. There used to be websites called faucets which sent you tiny specks in exchange for view ads. Might still exist.
-
expensivebead
You're telling me that we can't fake everything?
-
moneromooo
It's really *tiny* though.
-
Skirmant
>free money
-
Skirmant
:DDDDD
-
expensivebead
I'm not that code savvy.
-
moneromooo
wat
-
expensivebead
Like.
-
Skirmant
give me your address, i'll send you some
-
moneromooo
Some people scam others. It seems to be a common way to get free bitcoins too. Called ICOs.
-
moneromooo
(well, a large part of them, some are honest)
-
moneromooo
History shows you don't even need to have a programmer to make one :)
-
moneromooo
Or you could work for bitcoin payment.

Thank you.
-
Skirmant
hol up, i forgot how to copy text on WeeChat
-
moneromooo
BTW if you're new, be aware that there are a few forks of bitcoin, and those aren't the same chain. Don't be scammed.
-
moneromooo
Like, one called "bitcoin cash" tries to present itself as bitcoin to newbies who don't know better.
-
Skirmant
sent you some magic internet money, enjoy
-
expensivebead
I think I understand, so one "stem" so to speak?
-
expensivebead
Thank you Skirmant.

Probably something that's cross platform though.

anicow
all the old white men love bitcoin
-
anicow
i mean bitcoin is ok , but it's just a cult of lotterywinners pretending they're so goddamn smart because they bought early
-
anicow
there is another generation already building lightning and other stuff like that. bitcoin will become to corporate trading game just like all of wall street is now.
-
anicow
bitcoin is still betteer than ANY bank ever was

-
expensivebead
Can I have more BTC? :D
-
anicow
sure,mine it, buy it
-
expensivebead
How do you feel about this whole thing?
-
anicow
it is good for the world, but the 1% is trying to usurp the movement. they cant, but so many people are falling for it
-
expensivebead
You guys know the people who ran bitcoincloudservices by chance?
-
anicow
i am doing my part, and everyone else who understands the gravity of this should take it upon themselves to do their part.
-
anicow
nope...
-
expensivebead
If you ever find them and they have BTC, let me know.
-
expensivebead
They owe me 4 years worth of mining.
-
anicow
dag yo
-
expensivebead
You guys only into this kind of currency?
-
anicow
no

full chain sync is quite slow nowadays .. about 3-5 hours on a AMD 2920x, 100mbit fiber
-
dsc_
nvme ssd
-
asymptotically
you'd call that slow? :o
-
expensivebead
asymptotically: they gave me btc everyday and just stopped one day.
-
asymptotically
yes because it's a ponzi scheme
-
dsc_
asymptotically: how long does it take for you?
-
asymptotically
dsc_: about the same on similar hardware, i never thought it was slow though
-
asymptotically
maybe that's because i used to run a btc node on a hard drive :p, everything feels fast compared to syncing that
-
dsc_
ah okay
-
dsc_
thanks
-
expensivebead
Is there benefits to running these nodes?
-
fluffypony
yes
-
anicow
ok i camed

sugardingdong
I started asking theses questions yesterday but I'm back. Sorry :)
-
sugardingdong
How does the miner prevent me from fabricating inputs and outputs? Is this the ring signatures responsibly? Or would you have additional code in place?
-
dEBRUYNE
-
moneromooo
It doesn't. It just mines whatever you give it.
-
moneromooo
If you give it somehting invalid, joke's on you, any block you find will be rejected.
-
hiddener
magic
-
sugardingdong
If its not about what lies in you wallet i.e funds I have but the actual tx that the sum of inputs = sum of outputs. Could I not then fabricate the my input and outputs as long as the sum of inputs = sum of outputs?
-
expensivebead
Just make more
-
sugardingdong
lol. more money from thin air?
-
expensivebead
not thin are
-
moneromooo
That was answered yesterday...
-
expensivebead
air
-
expensivebead
Think about the whole thing
-
expensivebead
Not just mathematically looking at it
-
sugardingdong
I'm trying and my brain hurts. lol
-
expensivebead
Like ju mping
-

1 controlled variable makes it okay somehow
-
expensivebead
the value of it becomes moot
-
expensivebead
right?
-
sugardingdong
I don't know?
-
expensivebead
im pretty sure that this is that
-
sugardingdong
I read in and article somewhere that the key offsets are a remnants of Monero’s previously implemented ring signature before RingCT.
-
expensivebead
i invented brute force cc
-
expensivebead
okay i see.
-
expensivebead
does it work?
-
sugardingdong
No yet. I'll keep trying.
-
expensivebead
let me know should work.
-
expensivebead
dont use it
-

lol
-

make your own website

having a delusional episode sorry all

Have there been any tries to implement sth like paying tor relays for their bandwidth with monero? I think that would be quite cool, because I think one problem of tor is the lack of nodes providing high bandwidth...
-
moneromooo
Not to my knowledge, but that's the kind of thing primo was made for.
-
xmrpow
Never heart of primo...
-
xmrpow
Do you have a link? Cant find anything useful about it.
-
moneromooo
-
xmrpow
Thank you!
-
xmrpow
Ok, but Primo would not rly work for the compensation of tor relay nodes...
-
moneromooo
Why would it not ?
-
moneromooo
It would need someone with knowledge of the tor comms to be able to negotiate with the three nodes in your circuit, which might be a non trivial amount of work, but should otherwise be ok. I might not be seeing a showstopper though.
-
xmrpow
Yes, it would would have to be integrated in tor.
-
hyc
hm, you can book travel with cryptocurrency now on travala.com
-
hyc
I might try that when travel bans go away...
-
hyc
pretty broad range accepted. XMR is there of course
travala.com/payment-options
-
hyc
seems to only be for hotel bookings, not for flights?
-
anicow
ooo
-
KrishnAncap[m]
destinia for flights with btc
-
xmrpow
@moneromoo: I have thought about a monero wallet integrated into the tor browser and during browsing you are paying the tor nodes with xmr for their service.
-
KrishnAncap[m]
how to kill tor
-
xmrpow
@KrishnAncap: Why should that kill tor. Providing bandwidth is expensive. Why not paying for that service.
-
KrishnAncap[m]
because it's free
-
azy
It didn't give me any flights for sep5th
-
moneromooo
Such logic.
-
KrishnAncap[m]
try 4th
-
xmrpow
KrishnAncap: And who should pay for the hosting of the tor nodes in your opinion?
-
azy
I'll try sooner the time
-
KrishnAncap[m]
volunteer xmrpow
-
dsc_
Where we flying to?
-
KrishnAncap[m]
thx moneromooo
-
azy
Opposite of privacy though, I'll pay cash for recordable instances
-
xmrpow
KrishnAncap: Like everybody is mining because he is a volunteer ;)
-
xmrpow
I think that you need some econmic incentive to scale tor to higher level.
-
xmrpow
Look at the tor bandwidth . That is nothing.
-
azy
That's what nim is trying
-
azy
I think it's called nim..
-
xmrpow
Talking to me azy?
-
KrishnAncap[m]
OK then do it
-
KrishnAncap[m]
tor is centralized
-
xmrpow
What s more decentralized?
-
azy
Ye xmrpow, there's a coin /network which is looking to pay node hosts. I forget the name
-
xmrpow
azy: ok. I have already searched for it but found nothing interesting. Pls tell me if you find sth out.
-
azy
We'll have to wait until someone says the acronym
-
azy
-
azy
Whew that's a load off, nym
-
azy
-
expensivebead
Anyone get lucky doing the gambling game crash?
-
xmrpow
azy: Did you know about Loki network (randomx coin) ? It sounds like a mix of tor and i2p.
-
xmrpow
What do you guys think about Loki?
-
dsc_
loki.network/team "CEO" "CTO" kugh kugh </discussion>
-
xmrpow
I meant from a more technical perspective.
-
anicow
ok, well technically dsc ended the discussion in one PRIVMSG
-
xmrpow
anicow: And what do you think?
-
anicow
hm? i think that the name loki is stupid
-
xmrpow
...
-
anicow
that is what i think.
-
anicow
the end.
