researcing xmr posts/args: 1. trsuted setup: not anymore 2. founders reward: discussed to reduce/abandon 3. privacy by default: inevitable on the longterm; what args are left for xmr jugging around ringct versions (being more pragmatic) with different tradeoffs. fluffy donwstep, zksnark choins emerging

Anyone one has a ledger nano S ledger ?
-
bajaba
In the monero app what is change network ?
-
selsta
Mainnet / Stagenet / Testnet
-
bajaba
What are those ?
-
bajaba
What happens if I reset ?
-
moneromooo
The monero network and test versions thereof.
-
bajaba
Ok, so no nothing dangerous there right ?
-
bajaba
I mean, no way I can fuck it up is there ?
-
moneromooo
Oh, there are always ways.
-
moneromooo
Do you have a reason you might want a test network ?
-
moneromooo
Because "changing things just to see if they can be changed" is probably up there with the best of them in the list of "how did I fuck things up".
-
selsta
14:46 <bajaba> What happens if I reset ? <-- If you are talking about the Ledger app, nothing.
-
bajaba
That was my question indeed
-
bajaba
moneromooo: I don't think I do since It's part of the stuff I don't yet know about
-
bajaba
I know pgp, a node, merkle tree, blockchain, wallets but I don't know what is the mainnet
-
bajaba
moneromooo: I know that's my curse, I always want to go further down the rabbit hole and then I break thiings
-
moneromooo
"mainnet" just means "the main monero network". Because there's a couple test ones.
-
bajaba
For example I had a working Monerujo wallet but you know ... I had to run a full node and know how to use a cli wallet
-
asymptotically
the stagenet is good if you want to break things. the coins are worthless and you can mine more because the network difficulty is so low :)
-
bajaba
Does it mean like another blockchain ?
-
moneromooo
Yes.
-
bajaba
asymptotically: ok thanks
-
bajaba
And of course I created a wallet and transferred my funds to it before I know how to run a node.
-
bajaba
So know i have a full blockchain, some wallet files, a ledger device, and I can't see my funds
-
moneromooo
Check the refresh-from-height setting. If needs to be <= the height you got your monero.
-
moneromooo
Type "set" to see it.
-
bajaba
So first thing (than you) where do I put the wallet file ?
-
bajaba
because if I put in Moner/wallet the cli can't find it
-
bajaba
and if put it in the monero cli file it says :
-
moneromooo
Wherever you want. You obviously need to give the path to it if it's not in . though.
-
bajaba
Error: Key file not found
-
bajaba
How do I do that ?
-
moneromooo
Are you familiar with a shell ?
-
bajaba
I am
-
moneromooo
You are familiar with what a directory is ?
-
bajaba
I am
-
moneromooo
Then you string directory names with "/" between them and .. means parent directory.
-
bajaba
ha of course
-
moneromooo
Like if you put your wallet files in a directory called Moner/wallet, then you add "Moner/wallet/".
-
moneromooo
ie, monero-wallet-cli --wallet-file Moner/wallet/thenameyouused
-
bajaba
Thank you
-
bajaba
Sometimes the solution is simple and yet you can't see it
-
bajaba
I have done the learning but I need to practice
-
bajaba
Does the cli runs monerod or do I have to run it alongside in another terminal ?
-
moneromooo
monero-wallet-cli does not run monerod. Run it separately.
-
bajaba
What I assumed. Thanks.
-
bajaba
It asks if I want to mine. Should I be nice and says yes or my old computer is gonna run slow I will want to cry ?
-
asymptotically
i think if you say yes to the prompt, it checks if you are using your computer or not, and only mines in the background
-
asymptotically
so hopefully it won't make you cry but you might not earn anything from it
-
bajaba
haha great thanks
-
bajaba
So I opened my wallet with the cli and I am running the daemon fully synchronized, how do I see my precious funs now ?
-
bajaba
funds
-
bajaba
It says starting refresh
-
bajaba
And Height and then numbers
-
xmrmatterbridge
<xmrhaelan> Is there a minimum bandwidth requirement for sending a Monero transaction?
-
bajaba
It asks me for a password
-
bajaba
Why do I need to enter it again ?
-
azy
is it the cow asking?
-
bajaba
I don't get the joke
-
xmrmatterbridge
<xmrhaelan> Probably autocorrect for CLI
-
bajaba
Why does it says O funds (I want to cry)
-
azy
theres a cowsay message that comes up and asks for your password, like a screensaver/lockscreen, i thought you might have been looking at that
-
bajaba
azy: thanks
-
moneromooo
Did you do the "set" thing I mentioned before ?
-
bajaba
Oh here's the cow
-
xmrmatterbridge
<xmrhaelan> I should reframe my question above a bit. Is there any reason someone could not connect to the Monero network and send transactions on infrastructure with a 500kb/s maximum bandwidth?
-
bajaba
So does that mean I have to go in the other computer (the one that has a HDD and no blockchain), run the gui, find the height thing and then come back to the cli and enter refresh-from-heigh ?
-
bajaba
Right I entered my wallet with the cli but it says it out of sync
-
moneromooo
xmrhaelan: very unlikely to be a problem.
-
moneromooo
You can estimate by taking today's height and subtract 720 per day.
-
bajaba
I transferred the funds yesterday
-
bajaba
So 1500 should be good ?
-
bajaba
Is it normal it asks for password when you refresh ?
-
bajaba
What is today's height ?
-
azy
moneromooo, what about 10kb/s?
-
bajaba
refresh-from-heigh
-
bajaba
sorry
-
bajaba
Is the default BC location the same for the cli and the gui ?
-
moneromooo
That's like 1 kB/s, should be fine. Though the sync you'dneed to have done first will be excuciatingly slow, and maybe timeout-y. Use --block-sync-size 1 (IIRC) in that case.
-
moneromooo
bajaba: Try 1990000, that's a safe value for yesterday.
-
moneromooo
If it is less than that, it's also good. More than that, and it depends on exact values.
-
bajaba
moneromooo: thank you so much
-
bajaba
what does mean "output received" after enter password ?
-
bajaba
And then suddenly... It worked !!!
-
bajaba
moneromooo: Thank you again

Is there a good place to sell stuff for monero? I have some old football jeserys and collectable cards.

ckrypto[m]: there's /r/moneromarkets on reddit

I believe there's a channel on reddit for this.

you might have better luck on bitcointalk

r/moneromarket

whoops yeah rottensox is right. it's /r/moneromarket and not /r/moneromarkets

ckrypto[m]
I heard about openbazzar. Is that... reputable?
-
moneromooo
white house, is that the name of a dark market ? :D Trolling nicely :D
-
rottensox
yes.
-
rottensox
openbazaar and bisq are both reputable markets.

fort3hlulz
Does adding "--tx-proxy" to monerod options force monerod to ONLY send through that tor/i2p proxy?
-
fort3hlulz
*to only send local Tx broadcasts
-
moneromooo
Hopefully.
-
fort3hlulz
That would explain things :)
-
fort3hlulz
Helps if you have tor listening :)
-
fort3hlulz
Wondered why Tx were getting stuck -- pebcak as usual :D

hyc
one of the most difficult error codes to eliminate

Whats the best way to purge/retry those Tx?

Hi everyone. I need your help. Why when I try to encrypt with gpg it asks fr recipient ID twice ?
-
moneromooo
In case you want to encrypt with two keys. Press enter, it stops on an empty line.
-
bajaba
Thanks
-
bajaba
Very much
