hi
-
chovy
i'm using exodus and want to add xmr support to btcpayserver, is there a way to create the walletkeyfile?
-
mfoolb
are there official android app for monero wallet?
-
M5M400
mfoolb: no official ones, but trusted ones. monerujo
-
M5M400
oh, wait. the official monero wallet also builds on android now
-
M5M400
but I
-
M5M400
I'd go with monerujo still
-
mfoolb
M5M400: thanks, I'll check that out
-
mfoolb
what about privacy when using android official app to link to a monero wallet?
-
bajaba
Hi everyone. I have chosen to run a wallet in full node mode on the monero gui. I let it run all night. But now it says network status / disconnected. Is this normal ? And where is the blockchain located by default on linux
-
moneromooo
~/.bitmonero/lmdb
-
moneromooo
It could be your daemon corrupted, there's a known bug, rare-ish, which does that unfortunately.
-
bajaba
What should be the display ?
-
bajaba
Thank you
-
moneromooo
I don't understand that question.
-
bajaba
I mean what you the network status be ?
-
moneromooo
I'm not familiar with the GUI display, but I guess it should not be disconnected :)
-
moneromooo
Try quitting GUI and daemon, then run daemon from a terminal, see if it errors out.
-
bajaba
shoulOK thanks
-
bajaba
Good idea
-
bajaba
OK I guess there have an probelm becuase the blockchain is only ten gigB
-
bajaba
Hi back ! So I dowloaded the monero cli and lauched monerod
-
bajaba
So the blockchain sync starts
-
bajaba
But then i get a "Bus error (core dumped)"
-
bajaba
-
moneromooo
Then it's that corruption bug I'm afraid. Delete and resync.
-
Mochi101
Jeese... I read the first part of the channel message and for a second I thought it was talking about me.
-
Mochi101
"PLEASE NOTE: there is a persistent scammer"...
-
Mochi101
:D
-
moneromooo
Yeah, you're not *that* persistent.
-
Mochi101
;)

gscoders
Hi, I have a question, if MimbleWimble has this same chance for inflation bug like Monero? or MimbleWimble protocol has more clear and sure prove that there is no coins created from air?
-
gscoders
I know Monero and MW uses CT for hide tx amounts
-
cassepipe
I am runnning monerod and dowlaoding the blockchain but I get a of error messages
-
cassepipe
I am around 60 percent and it slowed down a lot now
-
cassepipe
"Peers claimed ..."
-
cassepipe
Is this normal ?
-
cassepipe
I have downloaded the software today so I doubt I really need an upgrade.
-
moneromooo
The claims of higher version are fine. Some people run lying nodes.
-
moneromooo
What error messages (if not just those version messages) ?
-
cassepipe
Mostly that. I have another king that was also red though not bold red like those.
-
cassepipe
I just can't use that pc right now because it so busy with the Blchain that I can't even scroll up the Terminal
-
cassepipe
another kind*
-
cassepipe
But it did slow down an awful lot.
-
cassepipe
Now I get SYNCHRONISATION STARTED
-
cassepipe
And then "peers claimed"
-
moneromooo
Do you have many peers in the 51.x range ?
-
moneromooo
There are lot of liars in there. Also other places but that's the main one IIRC.
-
nioc
speaking of those v60 nodes, how long can one ban them for?
-
nioc
ban <ip> [<seconds>]
-
nioc
for seconds, how large a number can I use?
-
moneromooo
Up to lots.
-
moneromooo
They're cleared on restart.
-
moneromooo
I'd keep it below 2 billion seconds.
-
nioc
ok thx
-
nioc
I have >50 banned now
-
nioc
most from ips starting with 116 and 95
-
cassepipe
Yup. Most problems are with some 51.x
-
nioc
none of mine start with 51.
-
cassepipe
one 85
-
cassepipe
and one 195
-
cassepipe
sorry I still can't scroll up the terminal
-
cassepipe
And... 51 again
-
cassepipe
At the rate I am going I'll be finished next year
-
cassepipe
Can't I run just half a blockchain ?
-
cassepipe
Also, I wonder, does the blockchain grow for ever ?
-
nioc
sounds like you have a HDD not an SSD
-
cassepipe
nioc: I have
-
nioc
SSD is so much faster
-
cassepipe
I just thought I could make it with a lot of patience
-
nioc
it will get there in a couple of days
-
cassepipe
I know, the pc I am on right does have one but it has a slower CPU so I am afraid to do it on this one
-
nioc
the big bottle neck is the drive
-
cassepipe
Good. A couple of days should be fine.
-
cassepipe
Ok, I am going to try on this one. Thank you.
-
nioc
SSD takes several hrs on my i3 and SSD
-
nioc
and takes days on my i5 and HDD
-
cassepipe
I have ... AMD semproon over here
-
cassepipe
Good to know I am definitely going to try this. Thank you.
-
nioc
yw
-
nioc
let us know how it goes :)
-
cassepipe
Can I just copy the blockchain then ?
-
cassepipe
I will
-
nioc
I have no experience moving a blockchain but AFAIUI there is still work that needs to be done such that you don't save time
-
cassepipe
Save time ?
-
nioc
also what you have now should not take much time on an SSD as it is the fastest to sync
-
nioc
no need to copy
-
nioc
just sync from the beginning
-
nioc
I was assuming you wanted to copy the portion of the BC you already synced
-
cassepipe
Ah ok
-
cassepipe
Rightly so assuming
-
cassepipe
Thanks for your advice good sir
-
nioc
p
-
nioc
np
-
cassepipe
What's the point of runnning lying nodes ?
-
cassepipe
Since all the other ones are there to tell they're lying AFAIU
-
nioc
yes, those have been running for a couple of months and i certainly don't have the knowledge to speculate why
-
moneromooo
Be an asshole. Maybe get some tiny advantage for yourself and feel like a smug cunt. Maybe there's a long term exploit. Maybe just an incompetent forker. Who knows.
-
moneromooo
Maybe they're trying to snare all of some particular target's connections to feed them a fake chain.
-
cassepipe
Haha hope it's not mine
-
moneromooo
Maybe they're spies, but incredibly incompetent ones.
-
cassepipe
I don't understand exactly what there is to spy
-
moneromooo
Or maybe they have decoy dumb nodes to get all the suspicion, and better hidden spy nodes elsewhere.
-
moneromooo
Everything. That's what TLAs do. They suck everything in, just in case. Because fuck people's right to privacy in their own affairs.
-
moneromooo
That's what's wrong with the world. It's full of people.
-
nioc
need more cows
-
moneromooo
In a few million years maybe we'll have all died and rats will take over, and do a better job.
-
moneromooo
Maybe.
-
cassepipe
What are TLAs ?
-
lza_menace
rats?
-
moneromooo
Shorthand for government spies.
-
nioc
Three Letter Agencies
-
lza_menace
I'd have said rabbits
-
moneromooo
Not that corporates aren't also at it, just smaller scale.
-
cassepipe
of course
-
cassepipe
And would they have any chance of succeeding whatever spyey they might be doing ? What benefits ?
-
cassepipe
spyey thing*
-
selsta
I’ve read that it’s a researcher testing how the network is reacting to bad nodes.
-
cassepipe
selsta: Ok so it's a thing
-
cassepipe
Unexpected I mean
-
cassepipe
There is no communication about that from the monero people ?
-
selsta
What do you mean?
-
cassepipe
selsta: If you have the source I am interested
-
selsta
It was on Reddit a few months ago.
-
cassepipe
I mean it's not usual that there a bunch of lying nodes outhere
-
cassepipe
Sorry I am new to this
-
selsta
The network handles it fine so nothing to worry about.
-
cassepipe
Hopefully one more node y'all can trust :-)
-
cassepipe
What a relief when you know the strucure is sound thanks to good design
-
moneromooo
Well, it could handle it better. I had a few tries, but kind fell flat on my face as it's hard to keep the false positives way down.
-
jcpham
hi
-
moneromooo
Hi. If you have a question, just ask it, and wait, possibly a while.
-
jcpham
fluffypony touched my no no place
-
jcpham
long live randomx
-
jcpham
Total Hash Rate: (24h) 4.65 KH/s (12h) 4.62 KH/s (1h) 5.20 KH/s (10m) 7.56 KH/s
-
jcpham
i am so rich
-
cassepipe
nioc: You asked for a follow up about how long it took me to install a full node on SSD and HDD well, here's a first fact : It is already at 63 percent on SSD
-
nioc
it will get slower but that's a good start
-
cassepipe
nioc: In only one hour and a half, that is inpressive
-
cassepipe
I calculated that at the rate it goes on hdd, it is going to take thousand hours
-
cassepipe
So I might as well abort it
-
moneromooo
You could have copied the chain, it's compatible (unless different endianness).
-
cassepipe
All modern computer are what ? Little endians ?
-
moneromooo
Most mainstream computers that bill themselves as computers are little endian.
-
cassepipe
Indeed I wanted to know about that. Just copying the chain and starting monerod works ?
-
cassepipe
I have an old Imac G5. I wonder if it is big endian. It's from 2007
-
moneromooo
Was it Intel already ?
-
cassepipe
No PPC
-
moneromooo
Then big endian I think.
-
cassepipe
I am sorry not 2007
-
cassepipe
older
-
cassepipe
Ok, all PPC were Big endian ?
-
cassepipe
like 2005 or 2004
-
moneromooo
I looked it up, power can switch endianness.
-
jcpham
i gizoogled it too and disagree
-
cassepipe
So I can just copy the blockchain and I'll be fine ?
-
cassepipe
Thanks
-
Mochi101
I don't think endian is politically correct anymore you guys.
-
cassepipe
What about if make only copy the missing files in it ? Is there a way to fuse them ?
-
cassepipe
Like only copy the files that are not already there ?
-
vtnerd
gscoders : the risks are identical because they both use the same tech
-
Mochi101
I guess nobody liked my joke.
-
Mochi101
Tough audience.
-
lza_menace
* cricket, cricket *
-
gscoders
vtnerd : thanks for answer, both now using bulletproofs right?
-
cassepipe
Mochi101: I smiled when I read it
-
hyc
pretty sure Apple stayed big-endian when transitioning from M68K to PPC
-
hyc
don't know of any little-endian PPC OSs. Likewise, ARM can switch, but I haven't seen any big-endian ARM OSs
-
vtnerd
the choice for range proofs is is defined by the implementation. however, I think most would be using bulletproofs
-
vtnerd
it should be possible to get gentoo arm big endian. but you'd have to cross-compile bootstrap the environment yourself I think
-
moneromooo
Borromean proofs should be forbidden by consensus now. If you think they aren't, it's a bug.
-
vtnerd
gentoo has a ppl-le stage 3 setup, so it appears down a ppc le is painless (if you consider using gentoo painless)
-
vtnerd
gscoders was asking about comparing ringct to mimblewimble in general
-
moneromooo
Oh sorry. I missed that.
-
vtnerd
so its not easy to answer because mimblemimble isn't really a specifying a particular range proof implementation
-
vtnerd
yeah its from way above sorry
-
vtnerd
oops -> *ppc-le
