resistor4u
ahoy. i'm a "hobbyist" on a 64-bit OS rpi, and i'm looking for recommendations on low-diff pools
-
moneromooo
Try #monero-pools
-
resistor4u
i've posted the ? there too, thanks
-
resistor4u
err, or pools that accommodate low-diff miners
-
resistor4u
*not just low-diff miners only
-
resistor4u
lol people on the minergate chat are flipping out
-
resistor4u
apparently they didn't update their pool
-
louipc
lolnice
-
resistor4u
that's just irresponsible
-
xmrmatterbridge
<GuzmanPintos> Check Luxor (mining.luxor.tech), we will vardiff all sort of miners. 😃
-
xmrmatterbridge
<vie> There were 60 blocks in the last 60 minutes, there might be large hash rate changes, or we might be partitioned, cut off from the Monero network or under attack. Or it could be just sheer bad luck.
-
nioc
still adjusting to the POW change after the hard fork
-
xmrmatterbridge
<vie> ok
-
xmrmatterbridge
<vie> why the nework hash is still so heigh?
-
hyc
because hashrates on the newer algo are higher than the previous one, on CPUs
-
xyggos
Are they lower on GPU? I am getting a significant reduction with xmrig rx/0 vs. cn/2 on my r9 390
-
nioc
depends on the GPU
-
xmrmatterbridge
<vie> but on GPU, FPGA, ASIC ?
-
nioc
so are worse some better and some are the same
-
xyggos
~1kH/s cn/2 vs. like ~10
-
nioc
no asics other than a good cpu
-
xyggos
Seems like something's wrong tbh, unsure how to debug though. Should probably open a ticket or just take my lumps I guess.
-
nioc
FPGA highly unlikely
-
nioc
CPUs now get up to 10x the HR
-
xyggos
Actually my GPU just reports n/a so something must be wrong.
-
nioc
so GPUs with the same HR as before are not competitive unless very cheap elec
-
nioc
not sure if your gpu is supported
-
xmrmatterbridge
<vie> ok, I see.
-
nioc
the AMD RX and Vegas are
-
nioc
my RX570 gets close to the same HR as before
-
nioc
my CPUs get ~10x
-
hyc
yes, that should be about the same for all GPUs and CPUs
-
hyc
Polaris and Vega are supported. nothing older or newer.
-
nioc
hyc: for older CPUs some people are reporting only a 4x increase
-
xmrmatterbridge
<vie> So the pool is still here and solo mine is not economical.
-
nioc
I have little details so.....
-
hyc
I guess that's possible for older CPUs
-
hyc
so much depends on on-chip caches
-

Anyone knows what it means when a peer id = 30dd752b?

hi
-
skrech
does monero-wallet-cli expect the config file to be placed on a specific default place?
-
skrech
I don't want to speficy path to config every time
-
rbrunner
skrech: No default location for CLI config file. I write small shell scripts and batchfiles for such cases to avoid too much typing
-
skrech
rbrunner: thanks
-
skrech
one more question just to be sure: I don't need to be connected to a node to generate my new wallet, yes?
-
xmrmatterbridge
<dd1982> Ryzen 3700X. The new Ryzens are beasts in general - but the huge L3 caches make them especially good with RandomX as it needs ~2MB L3 per thread and the new Ryzens have at least 4MB/core...
-
manifest
skrech: no node needed for wallet
-
manifest
generation that is
-
skrech
thanks manifest
-
skrech
sorry if I'm nagging with my questions but: how is it possible to have monerod consume 62G of virtual memory while the swap is empty and the RES memory is about 5G?
-
skrech
feel free to answer me with big articles :D
-
asymptotically
skrech: it could be something like a memory mapped file
-
hyc
exactly
-
hyc
LMDB uses shared memory-mapped file - these never use swap
-
skrech
yes, I though the same but didn't know whether it possible
-
skrech
what is the C function to memory map a file?
-
hyc
oon posix - mmap
-
skrech
or... it's more elaborate?
-
skrech
hyc: thanks
-
hyc
using mmap safely is more elaborate...

mfed3[m]
What do you guys recommend as the best XMR mining pool to get into right now with the RandomX switchover?
-
mfed3[m]
I am looking to mine on my CPU, if this matters
-
mfed3[m]
and also software, XMRig?
-
mfed3[m]
I'm on Manjaro Linux if that matters for anyone that helps, thanks I appreciate it
-
asymptotically
yes xmrig is the best. you can pick one from
miningpoolstats.stream/monero
-
mfed3[m]
I used to use supportxmr in the past, I think I still have some residual unpaid mining in my receive address account
-
mfed3[m]
Thanks asymptotically ! Looks like I'm back in the game
-
Inge-
supportxmr is still fine - but it is amongst the largest pools
-
KnifeOfPi_
moneroocean’s pool comparison says that supportxmr is statistically the best pool to mine at
-
Mochi101
wo! KnifeOfPi_

Mochi101
hello

mfed3[m]
Seems to be the best bang for buck on the market

DeanWeen
last hard fork there was a graph of hashrate dropping from the asics. Any ideas how the hash rate will/has changed with this fork?
-
moneromooo
It more than doubled so far. Guess the ASICs were ready this time.
-
moneromooo
(for those who missed it, the second part was in jest...)
-
DeanWeen
but the hashrate actually did go up? due to... easier computation from the cpu advantages of randomx?
-
sech1
CPU hashrate is 7-10x times more
-
sech1
of course network hashrate will go up
-
rbrunner
Well, that was "only" very probable, but not guaranteed, right? There might have been ASIC we did not know of; too many miners and pools not ready for the fork; etc.
-
nioc
there were no asics on v11, the HR did not change over those 8 months, most pools ready, most miners never are
-
Mochi101
-
DeanWeen
Mochi101: thanks
-
DeanWeen
will be interesting to watch in the coming week(s)
-
Bill48105
so i i didn't upgrade from 0.14 in time there anything special I need to do?
-
moneromooo
Yes, update to 0.15.0.1.
-
Bill48105
lol thx
-
Bill48105
i mean in terms of fixing the chain copy etc. take it you're saing just upgrade & it'll fix itself
-
moneromooo
I think it should.
-
Bill48105
guess 1 way to find out :D thx
-
moneromooo
If you want to make sure, pop enough blocks to get back to before the fork with the old version first.
-
Bill48105
yeah? guess i'd have to look up how to do that
-
moneromooo
pop_blocks N
-
moneromooo
Then quit, lest it syncs again :)
-
Bill48105
gotcha thx i already stopped but downloading 15 now
-
Bill48105
that's odd the relewase says v.15.0.1 but filename is v0.15.0.0
-
Bill48105
ha can just edit the url & it works
-
btgjoseph
congrats on a flawless fork once again!
-
btgjoseph
dare i say that randomx is very welcome in the asic resistance realm
-
btgjoseph
letthe fools continue to say 'asic resistance doesnt exist' 'it is a wasteof time' blah blah blah
-
btgjoseph
they just heard it from someone else
-
btgjoseph
anyways, enjoy your day

Bill48105
quaint fellow eh
-
Bill48105
but yeah fyi on github releases page under Official Download Links all the links point to v0.15.0.0 not v0.15.0.1 I just had to edit the url before downloading but figure some might not notice
-
Bill48105
oh that's why 15.0.1 doesn't have a releases announcement
-
Bill48105
too easy to see v0.15.0.1 & scroll down to download without realizing now into the old one
-
Mochi101
binaryFate, better have a look at minko.to
-
Mochi101
Seems to not be working.

monero.win is functioning perfectly though

Hail_Spacecake
I installed the mymonero wallet, and put in the encryption_passphrase I got from my existing wallet with the official cli client
-
Hail_Spacecake
(on a different computer, to be clear)
-
Hail_Spacecake
and the mymonero client is showing a different hex addres than I was expecting, and is saying I need to do a transfer that costs 0.1 xmr
-
Hail_Spacecake
which I don't want to pay
-
Hail_Spacecake
I was under the impressoin that I was just transferring control of a set of addresses from one wallet to another, but it seems like this process is actually about creating a new set of addresses, and transferring xmr from the old one to the new one?
-
louipc
you can have same passphrase but different keys
-
Hail_Spacecake
so the key is the fundamental unit of controling a collection of xmr, and you generate (a large number of) addresses from the key?
-
Hail_Spacecake
I'm not 100% sure of the right terminology
-
louipc
yea something like that
-
Hail_Spacecake
so is there any way for me to start using the mymonero wallet without paying that 0.1 xmr?
-
Hail_Spacecake
anyway I thought that encryption_passphrase was a way of encoding the key in a set of human-readable names, and wasn't realted to my wallet password
-
selsta
00:30 <Hail_Spacecake> and the mymonero client is showing a different hex addres than I was expecting, and is saying I need to do a transfer that costs 0.1 xmr <-- importing a wallet is not free with MyMonero
-
louipc
Hail_Spacecake: sorry i hdnt used mymonero. but if you could import the 'seed' i guess it shoudl work without any fee
-
selsta
00:33 <Hail_Spacecake> so is there any way for me to start using the mymonero wallet without paying that 0.1 xmr? <-- yes simply generate a new wallet and transfer your XMR in the wallet
-
selsta
00:34 <Hail_Spacecake> anyway I thought that encryption_passphrase was a way of encoding the key in a set of human-readable names, and wasn't realted to my wallet password <-- encryption passphrase? Do you mean your seed? Yes, your seed isn’t related to your wallet password.
-
louipc
i wonder why the transfer would cost .1 xmr tho??
-
louipc
seems high still
-
Hail_Spacecake
selsta: I mean the set of 25 human-readable english words I get when I run encryption_seed in the official monero cli client
-
selsta
louipc: Because importing a wallet and scanning from block 0 is resource intensive.
-
selsta
It’s a fee MyMonero charges for importing, it’s not related to Monero.
-
louipc
oh hehhh
-
Hail_Spacecake
hm, maybe I just want to stick with the official client hten
-
selsta
Simply generate a new MyMonero wallet and try them out.
-
selsta
Only importing costs a fee.
-
louipc
and theres mymonero.com and mymonerowallet.org
-
louipc
so confusing
-
Hail_Spacecake
the last time I looked at this, i remember having to either download a several-dozen-gb blockchain, or point the official client at some external source of the blockchain, which had security implications I didn't fully understand
-
selsta
mymonero.com is the correct domain
-
Hail_Spacecake
and I think I've since deleted the local copy of the blockchain out of some dot directory, since it was taking up a lot of spcae on my ssd
-
Hail_Spacecake
I suppose if I wanted to transfer xmr out of my existing wallet I'd need to redownload that blockchain, or point my client at some external server
-
selsta
yes
-
Hail_Spacecake
butif I could do the latter safely then maybe I don't care about using mymonero
-
Hail_Spacecake
I was interested in that because it seemed to not require downloading a copy of the blockchain
-
louipc
its recommends to use your own node
-
nioc
you can set up a new wallet on mymonero and transfer your existing funds to that wallet and don't have to pay the 0.1 xmr fee
-
nioc
Hail_Spacecake: ^^
-
gingeropolous
well i guess the next thing is to figure out how to stop pool centralization
-
Hail_Spacecake
nioc: but can I do that without re-setting-up my existing wallet with a node, either local or otherwise?
-
nioc
sorry if I came in the middle but you need yours or a remote node
-
nioc
using the android or ios wallet is easy
