why are the monero rpc calls for get_balance for example returning a balance hundreds of billions times higher then its supposed to be?
-
selsta
while: the balance is in atomic units
-
while
atomic units?
-

thank you
-
selsta
yes in piconero or so to avoid floating point

I'm a bit confused with the situation about packaging for debian. IIUC the CCS from the whonix maintainer is about creating a Debian package repository that people will need to add to their sources.list (which is a discouraged approach in Debian). In the meantime, we already have a monero package included in the official debian packages for 'unstable' ow 'testing'
-
ErCiccione
s/ow/and now
-
ErCiccione
-
ErCiccione
The version we have on the official repo is much easier to use, because people can simply `apt install monero` (if they are on 'testing' or sid) without the need of adding a repo in sources.list
-
ErCiccione
so now i don't see the convenience of having the whonix-managed one, beside the fact that the GUI is included there
-
ErCiccione
I mean, it's good for having it included in whonix, but it's much less conventient for the normal user.
-
ErCiccione
just thinking out loud
-
Inge-
apt install monero is king
-
ErCiccione
You can already do that if you are on testing or unstable. The packages are updated to version 0.15.0.5
-
selsta
ErCiccione: I think rehrar talked to the whonix maintainer. Maybe he knows more.
-
asymptotically
ErCiccione: i don't think that monero will ever make it into stable (same as bitcoin). the debian release cycle doesn't fit with monero's, and there's no point having a crusty old daemon around that can't connect to the network
-
ErCiccione
selsta: The thing is that reading the proposal, that's what it is about. An external package to manually add to your sources. Don't know if there is more to know. The problem is that i think some will expect to be able to simply do apt install monero on debian, which will not happen
-
selsta
:/
-
ErCiccione
asymptotically: I'm aware of that, but the thing is that the "free" solution that we have at the moment is better than the CCS funded one
-
selsta
Also don’t get the point if it’s already in unstable.
-
ErCiccione
it's not jsut in unstable, it's even in 'testing'
-
asymptotically
has anybody tried packaging mooo's updater program? i think it would be fine in debian stable (the contrib repository is for programs that download other programs). then we can be in stable for everybody and also have the latest versions available
-
ErCiccione
Why would people want to pull an external repository (the whonix maintained one) when simply downloading it from getmonero would be easier? That's my question
-
selsta
ErCiccione: if you add the external repo once you can manage it with your package manager
-
selsta
some people prefer that, but I don’t understand what’s the point over the existing package
-
ErCiccione
yes sure, but i don't see it much more convenient and more trust is involved. I guess can vary for each person
-
ErCiccione
what’s the point over the existing package <- includes the GUI and can be used on debian stable, but still... At this point is just subjective
-
ErCiccione
but i still have the feeling that many who supported that proposal now expect to have the package available on debian
-
gingeropolous
asymptotically, i think that solution would be optimal
-
gingeropolous
just based on my experience with packages etc and monero's releases
-
hyc
makes no sense to me to lose the benefit of our own reproducible packages
-
hyc
putting mooo's updater into package repos at least makes sense

Has anyone seen this before when running tests? ` 1/21 Test #1: hash-target ......................***Exception: Illegal 0.33 sec`
-
selsta
could this be ccache related?
-
selsta
-
selsta
Okay, appears to be ccache + sharing cache between different linux VMs related, guess I will disable ccache for tests
-
moneromooo
Disable "sharing cache between different linux VMs". ccache should see when the compiler's changed, or the command line, but probably not if it's the underlying CPU.
-
moneromooo
"Exception: Illegal " looks like SIGILL. A different CPU would explain that.
-
selsta
For CI I have to share the cache between runs else I don’t need ccache anyway.
-
selsta
and they spin up a new VM everytime so I don’t know about CPU.
-
selsta
For just compiling it seems to work fine even if the CPU is different. Only tests were a problem.

We have a user getting spam filtered for posting a link to
moneropaperwallet.github.io/monero-wallet.html
-

Can someone verify that thats not compromised
-
needbrrrrrrr90
idk where that came from
-
needbrrrrrrr90
Considering that the user who posted it has pretty much exclusively posted that link repeatedly, I suspect its compromised, but I'd like confirmation
