ask6155
Hello
-
ask6155
How do I access the stagenet?
-
moneromooo
Add --stagenet to the monerod/monero-wallet-cli command lines.
-
ask6155
Oh I'm using the mobile client moneroj
-
ask6155
Isn't there a stagenet node I can connect to?
-
selsta
-
ask6155
If I have a mainnet wallet, what will happen to it when I switch to the stagenet?
-
moneromooo
IIRC monerujo uses libwallet2 so it should fail to load it.
-
moneromooo
Emphasis on "should" though.
-
ask6155
What would happen on the official monero client?
-
moneromooo
It would fail to load it.
-
ask6155
Well it doesn't work. I made a new wallet in stagenet and made sure there was only the stagenet node moneroj was connecting to. When I opened the wallet it was loading and then it threw me out.

JaakkoLuttinen[m
I'm confused by this explanation: "A raw Monero address is a set of 95 characters starting with a '4'. The Monero donation address, for instance, is 888tNkZrPN6JsEgekjMnABU4TBzc2Dt29EPAvkRxbANsAnjyPbb3iQ1YBRk1UXcdRsiKc9dhwMVgN5S9cQUiyoogDavup3H." First they say address starts with 4 and then give an example that starts with 8.. So which is it, 4 or 8? I'm seeing both kind of addresses and now I'm very confused what
-
JaakkoLuttinen[m
does 4 mean and what does 8 mean as a starting character in the address..
web.getmonero.org/resources/moneropedia/address.html
-
JaakkoLuttinen[m
I was hoping "moneropedia address" page would have explained this...
-
sech1
8 is a subaddress
-
ask6155
Has stagenet.community.xmr.to gone down?
-
Inge-
I'm guessing the monero donation address was changed, without the rest of the text on that page being updated :)
-
ask6155
I can't seem to connect to it from moneroj
-
Inge-
JaakkoLuttinen[m: the "primary" address of any monero wallet, starts with a 4. Then you can have something like 4 billion accounts, each with 4 billion subaddresses - all those start with an 8.
-
Inge-
ask6155: xmr.to has closed their doors

hm. I tried the xmr.to *testnet* faucet, and it submitted a tx to stagenet, so that works.

It occurs to me that the fact Discord is a proprietary system run by a corporate entity that collects data about users makes having a Discord bridge for a community of people interested specifically in the most effectively privacy-oriented cryptocurrency seems . . . weird, and counterproductive in a way.
-
hyc
yeah not too fond of these bridges and discord in particular
-
apotheon
I can understand having/allowing/whatevering a Discord channel on its own, for the sake of supporting users who only use Discord, but bridging it with a decentralized E2EE system like Matrix and a distributed, old-school "dumb text just works" system like IRC in a decentralization-and-privacy oriented community feels weird.
-
sunrosa
Aren't bridges to Discord against its TOS? Or was it bridges from Discord that were disallowed?

sunrosa
it's so difficult to do sometimes though
-
apotheon
At this point, there's basically only one circumstance in which I'd expect to end up opening a Discord client, and that's if a local writing group ever exhumes and resuscitates itself.
-
apotheon
Even then, maybe I could at least get them to use Matrix instead.
-
selsta

only IRC / Matrix

sunrosa
everyone i typically associate with immediately flocks to discord as their first choice lol

somebody needs to make a client with similar capabilities as discord but open source and with actual security if anyone ever expects the majority to move over to it

I thought discord was only used by online gamers

sunrosa: . . . like Matrix?
-
apotheon
sunrosa: open source, E2EE, distributed/adminware-decentralized
-
apotheon
Discord does kinda seem to be the majority choice now, though.
-
apotheon
hyc: Being the default/popular choice amongst gamers with no need to host one's own servers or pay up front for use is a great way to become popular with *everyone* who doesn't have money to throw at Slack.
-
sunrosa
matrix is more a one-channel deal from my experience while discord allows for servers with a multitude of rich channels and all thatt
-
apotheon
hyc: . . . or at Teams.
-
apotheon
sunrosa: The open source part allows you to host your own server and run multiple channels.
-
apotheon
That's also the "adminware" part; it's "distributed" by virtue of being something you can host instances yourself.
-
apotheon
err, mistyped
-
apotheon
s/distributed/decentralized/
-
apotheon
It's only decentralized to the extent people are willing to run small, centralized servers separately from the client applications.

I have an output spent which I'm sure is untspent

And flush the tx from the txpool if it's still there.

I did rescan_spent without success

This will show which txes used your output. One of them will be yours.
