alexanarcho[m]
what is the process of moving CCS proposals along, is there a repeating meeting where I can answer some questions about it?
-
Mochi101
alexanarcho[m], you have to have special connections.
-
Mochi101
If you're part of the core team or close to it you can get same day approval.
-
Mochi101
Otherwise you have to wait until... who knows.
-
Mochi101
I liked your proposal BTW.
-
Mochi101
It's niche, but stuff like that is good.
-
Mochi101
Really shows that Monero can compete with the grandfather coin.
-
ErCiccione[m]
Mochi101: What are you talking about? Please make it clear if you are joking, or people will take your statements seriously
-
Mochi101
-
Mochi101
Am I joking?
-
alexanarcho[m]
-
alexanarcho[m]
we would really like to go into the funding stage
-
ErCiccione[m]
Mochi101: Yeah that proposal was definitely approved too quickly, but from there to say "If you're part of the core team or close to it you can get same day approval." or "you have to have special connections." is a passive aggressive way to complain. If you think it was merged too quickly say something about it, don't spread bullshit. That's lame
-
Mochi101
ErCiccione[m], I wasn't complaining. That's my perception.
-
Mochi101
It's not the first time stuff like that has happened.
-
ErCiccione[m]
And still, here you are spreading bullshit instead of talking with the interested parties? Thank you for your contribution...
-
ErCiccione[m]
Man, i hate when people feel the need to spread their bullshit opinion as fact, but don't spend a single second to discuss a problem if they think there is one.
-
Mochi101
calm down
-
ErCiccione[m]
And this comes from somebody who has been opening funding proposals for three years and have to wait usually 1/2 weeks before seeing them moved to funding required
-
Mochi101
ErCiccione[m], if "connections" didn't matter in that case, please explain to me what happened.
-
ErCiccione[m]
Why don't you back up your claim instead? This is classic brandolini's law
-
Mochi101
There's no way for me to back up my perception of an event that took place.
-
ErCiccione[m]
So, your claim to a public channel about why a CCS is moved to funding required is based of your perception of a single event. Solid science right there.
-
ErCiccione[m]
-
Mochi101
The optics are pretty bad ErCiccione[m]
-
Mochi101
Don't you think so?
-
Mochi101
Maybe there should be more clarity on the process by which a proposal gets moved to the funding stage.
-
ErCiccione[m]
Maybe there should be more clarity on the process by which a proposal gets moved to the funding stage -> A stricter and clearer structure of the CCS system is something we are discussing in these days.
-
Mochi101
So you actually do realize there's a problem?
-
ErCiccione[m]
While i too agree that proposal was merged too fast, i think it simply happened because of miscommunications and because of the loose structure of the system itself.
-
ErCiccione[m]
yes of course, the absence of a solid structure keep creating issues of these kind
-
ErCiccione[m]
but you are assuming bad faith and that's not the case
-
ErCiccione[m]
if you are following the discussion on monero-community you'll see that i made a proposal to restructure the CCS system
-
ErCiccione[m]
The main problem is that the absence of a clear structure is creating issues and infinite and repetitive discussions every time there is a contentious proposal
-
Mochi101
Isn't the community as a whole the interested parties?
-
ErCiccione[m]
No
-
ErCiccione[m]
The core team administer the CCS
-
Lovera[m]
<Mochi101 "alexanarcho, you have to have sp"> Man, no "special connections" are required... what are you talking about? I'm open a proposal, and I don't have any "conection" with the core, and to be honest, I don't have any conection with nobody... My proposal was merged after... I can't remember, 3 or 4 weeks? But that is the normal time to be merged because Comunity don't merge anything people post in the CCS.
-
Mochi101
:)
-
Mochi101
Anyways, thanks for your input ErCiccione[m]
-
alexanarcho[m]
mostly i am curious about a meeting on IRC to take part in and answer some question.
-
alexanarcho[m]
i believe there are some community meetings where these things can be discussed
-
Mochi101
In the future I'll try to choose my words more carefully whilst in the open channel.
-
hundehausen[m]
I think 3-4 weeks are still a little bit too long, because some proposers put a lot of energy in at the beginning and might already be working on the project.
-
ErCiccione[m]
alexanarcho: CCS proposals are usually discussed during community meetings in #monero-community, but at the end core decides.
-
ErCiccione[m]
Mochi101: Sorry if i got warmed up
-
Mochi101
No worries, shows your passion for Monero.
-
alexanarcho[m]
yep, great! ErCiccione does that mean the coffeechat on saturdays?
-
ErCiccione[m]
No, we have community meetings every two week, we had one yesterday:
monero-project/meta #508
-
Lovera[m]
<alexanarcho[m] "yep, great! ErCiccione does that"> Before yesterday if I'm not wrong, your proposal was discussed during meeting.... a meeting hace ever 2 week AFAIK
-
alexanarcho[m]
ah okay i will read up on the log then
-
Lovera[m]
<alexanarcho[m] "ah okay i will read up on the lo"> In the site MoneroOutreach is a Calendar!! Very useful stuff to know future activity in the Monero Comunity

luigi simply merged them quickly, no conspiracy
-
selsta
but I also found it a bit too fast
-
selsta
though I think it did happen it the past that some proposals got merged super quickly compared to others
-
alexanarcho[m]
hey woodser how is monero javascript? will there be an update for the hardfork?
-
Mochi101
selsta, I was really just answering alex's question in a tongue in cheek sort of way.

Mochi101: people ask me or ask luigi for their thing to be moved and show evidence, and it gets moved
-
rehrar
I try to let people know to drum up support if they have none and contact luigi to get stuff moved. Some do. Many don't.
-
rehrar
I get people asking me how things can be moved and I try to help them show they have the support so it can be moved.
-
rehrar
Yes, because I've dealt with it many times before, I know getting support is paramount and then showing evidence gets it moved. I don't have to wait to be told. I can do it right away.
-
rehrar
The last time one of my proposals got merged ASAP (C3, time sensitive, had been discussed ad nauseam), the people didn't like the urgency, so the rule was put forth of a 24 hour minimum wait time, which was honored.
-
rehrar
If we would like to extend that wait time, please bring that up. Otherwise no rules were broken.
-
rehrar
alexanarcho[m]: I pinged you yesterday in regards to your proposal to discuss it.
-
rehrar
You were not present, so we didn't discuss beyond general first impressions (which were positive)
-
rehrar
alexanarcho[m]: if you read this:
ccs.getmonero.org/what-is-ccs
-
rehrar
you will see the line "2. You have to drum up support for your proposal during the first two stages. Do not expect others (especially the Core Team or other trusted members of the community) to do it for you. Others may share and support if they are excited about your project, but ultimately it is nobody's responsibility but your own."
-
rehrar
basically, start a reddit thread. Discuss during community meeting, get them to comment on the proposal itself. Then present these as evidence to luigi (or you can ask me to do it) and it'll get merged.
-
rehrar
basically, the 'conspiracy' of some things getting merged fast vs others is if someone pokes luigi about it. That's literally it.
-
rehrar
all this said, alexanarcho[m] I want your proposal to get merged. I have been asking for literally this for quite some time. If you need help or advice on CCS stuff, let me know.
-
Mochi101
rehrar, really it was tongue in cheek. Didn't mean to touch anybody the wrong way with that.

algo_max[m]
trying to setup a public node.. is this the right command to run it? monerod --data-dir /monero-data --public-node --restricted-rpc --rpc-bind-ip 0.0.0.0 --rpc-bind-port 18081 --confirm-external-bind
-
algo_max[m]
I'm not sure about the --confirm-external-bind.. it didn't start without it and printed some error
-
algo_max[m]
Also when I run monerod status or monerod print_cn now I get the error "Error: Problem fetching info-- rpc_request". I guess that's because of --restricted-rpc.. but how do I get monerod status working again?
-
algo_max[m]
One more question.. I think I understood that opening port 18080 lets others users download the blockchain, but I'm not sure how the RPC port 18081 works and what it's used for exactly. Which of the two ports is more important to the network? Does it even make sense to open the RPC port 18081 when you're on a dynamic IP?
