Is there any good open source multi crypto wallets out there? Googling has found a bunch of web wallets and exchange wallets that I would not trust. Basically I am using keepass at the moment to keep my keys organised =/
-
duso
Lite wallets I mean, monerod is the only full node wallet I want to run.
-
Nizumzen
very stupid question but how big is the full monero blockchain when fully synced with monerod?
-
lza_menace
right now my node is at 88 GB (unpruned)
-
mmxxx[m]
O_0
-
Nizumzen
thanks - that helps - I want to run a VPS which is just a monerod node and I needed to know how much storage I would need to pay for
-
niocbrrrrrr
Nizumzen: it can also be run pruned, if you sync with pruned mode it is I think around 35 GB
-
Nizumzen
Does pruned mode have any disadvantages?
-
Smear\gle
How does Coinomi fare in the wallets for Monero?
-
monerod[m]
<Smear\gle "How does Coinomi fare in the wal"> Not good. Use a wallet that is mentioned on the official monero website
-
Smear\gle
Any details as to *why?*
-
monerod[m]
The code is not open source
-
Smear\gle
is there any real rationale beyond source concerns?
-
monerod[m]
Yeah
-
monerod[m]
They were caught mistakenly spell checking all users seed words on Google
-
monerod[m]
So they are noobs obviously. open source makes thinks secure as more people can check the code for flaws
-
Smear\gle
So how do we know they were doing that to seed words?
-
monerod[m]
Use goodle
-
monerod[m]
* Use google
-
Smear\gle
but I also say mega oof if they were transmitting seed words
-
monerod[m]
it was quite the news
-
monerod[m]
-
Smear\gle
that means that probably...a lot of poor souls seeds exist in an archive somewhere on google servers...along with gods knows what metadata
-
monerod[m]
Their "official statemsts"
-
monerod[m]
Also "not open source"
-
monerod[m]
<Smear\gle "that means that probably...a lot"> Im sure it is yes.
-
-
endor00[m]
<Smear\gle "So how do we know they were doin"> They were actually caught by someone running traffic analysis because they noticed some connection going on in the background when they were not expecting any
-
endor00[m]
If you dig around a bit, you'll find the guy's website where he describes in technical detail how he found out
-
lza_menace
Nizumzen: I think your node can't replicate the entire chain after pruning
-
Nizumzen
ok so I don't want to prune in that case
-
Nizumzen
thanks for the info
-
selsta
Nizumzen: you can prune without disadvantages, all transaction history will still be available, only unnecessary ring signature data gets pruned
-
selsta
also also it will reduce the blockchain size to ~28GB
-
artefact
only flaw of pruning afaik, is that you can only send 1/8th of the chain to other syncing nodes
-
as0zial
yo guys
-
as0zial
I want to run monero node on Rockpro64
-
as0zial
I just use the ARMv8 image from github?
-
as0zial
running manjaro-arm
-
selsta
artefact: --sync-pruned-blocks
-
selsta
(but disabled by default at the moment)
-
selsta
as0zial: getmonero.org also has ARM binaries
-
selsta
should be the same as the one linked on github
-
as0zial
selsta the Linux ARMv8 is the correct image for Rockpro64?
-
selsta
I guess so.
-
anicow
moo.
-
xmrmatterbridge
<jkk1> hey
-
xmrmatterbridge
<jkk1> need some help
-
artefact
don't ask to ask on irc
-
xmrmatterbridge
<jkk1> irc? as in mirc.com?
-
moneromooo
mirc is an IRC client, yes.
-
moneromooo
What artefact meant is: just ask your question, and wait until someone who knows reads and replies.
-
xmrmatterbridge
<jkk1> cannot connect to daemon on GUI wallet. getting error message "monerod.exe" executable is missing. when i try to manually run "monerod.exe" nothing happens. any tips?
-
selsta
jkk1 anti virus?
-
xmrmatterbridge
<jkk1> maybe, should i turn anti-virus off?
-
monerod[m]
Unblock all monero files and folders in wondows deffender
-
monerod[m]

-
xmrmatterbridge

multifractal
I'm trying to do my first send of monero. I'm on the GUI wallet app on tails. After 18 minutes I'm still seeing 0 confirmations, is this normal??
-
monerod[m]
<multifractal "I'm trying to do my first send o"> No, is your wallet synced?
-
multifractal
oh wait, now it's saying 1/10 confirmations. I guess it's working properly? :)
-
monerod[m]
Ah your connection probably is slow trught all tunnels
-
monerod[m]
* Ah your connection probably is slow trough all tunnels
-
multifractal
So I will just wait a while. And then after 10 onfirmations, the recipient wallet will see it arrive?
-
monerod[m]
He will see it before that. But will be able to spend it after 10
-
multifractal
awesome, thank you for the advice
-
fahrradflucht
"normal" would be more like 2-3 minutes. So it probably took very long for you to broadcast the tx as well as receive the confirmations. Might be quicker now to monitor the transaction in a block explorer. (Mind your opsec though)
-
christnofskimn
anyone know of a good crowdfunding platform that accepts monero and cc payments? Ideally self hosted.
-
christnofskimn
btcpays has a great patreon replacement that you can plug cc payments but its not a good kickstarter replacement
-
selsta
moneromooo: should the sync-pruned-blocks flag result in faster syncing time? or what are the advantages?
-
selsta
less bandwidth?
-
moneromooo
The latter, implying the former on some machines. Also less I/O (less stuff to save).
-
kayabaNerve
Does h4sh3d use IRC at all?
-
kayabaNerve
Debated asking this in monero-dev, sorry if this is the wrong place.
-
kayabaNerve
Doesn't appear so according to whois, just figured I'd check with the community in case.
-
niocbrrrrrr
kayabaNerve: he is currently bridged from matrix but not in this room
-
kayabaNerve
niocbrrrrrr: Thanks for the heads up. Mind letting me know what room?
