  I have a little box with an SD card for storage. Trying that and it's going alright actually, but it is tight on ram. Much experimentation later it seems the best I can do to control its memory use it limiting the network transfer rate.

  niocbrrrrrr: I figured a large block chain once written to the disk will stay hopefully mostly static (of course with updates to the db), I thought perhaps the SD card would get full sooner than it would fail from too many writes
