-
Dean_Guss
a cuban conga drummer
-
riceandbeans
sigh, I hate how I forget to sync the daemon sometimes and I fall behind and it takes forever to catch up, I'm 119 days behind because I lost track
-
riceandbeans
Also good god I feel old because you don't know who Ricky Ricardo is
-
riceandbeans
That was my childhood
-
Dean_Guss
riceandbeans yes and it seems the newest gui crashes (at least when using a remote node and far behind)
-
Dean_Guss
I had to revert to the previous version
-
riceandbeans
GUI? I don't do GUIs so I don't even know.
-
riceandbeans
What happened?
-
Dean_Guss
It crashed multiple times with hundreds of thousands of blocks to go
-
Dean_Guss
using a remote tor node
-
Dean_Guss
Whatev. problem solved for now :)
-
Dean_Guss
but ya I agree the cli is the way to go. Monero's api is fun
-
Dean_Guss
even funner than bitcoin's
-
riceandbeans
I just like to live in the terminal in general
-
mmxxx[m]

-

A lot of transactions are done at 3:00 am.
-

CET that is.

I'd appreciate some recommendations for exchanges. I currently use Coinbase but I'm increasingly wary of it and looking for better alternatives (at the same time I'd really like to avoid going through the same typical verification process. I'd like a reliable, safe way to buy XMR anonymously, but I know this is almost impossible if you're not willing to send cash in the post.
-
d4ndo[m]
syntax_: cash deposit on localmonero works fine.
-
d4ndo[m]
If you live in the EU
-
syntax_
I like the idea of it, I'm just not sure I'd want to risk it. I guess the safest way is to buy as little as possible until you can trust the seller...
-
d4ndo[m]
The tradeing partner sends you a barcode. You can use it on your smart phone to make a cash deposit in the super market. rewe, dm etc.
-
d4ndo[m]
Pretty anonymous - if you ask me.
-
syntax_
thanks for the tip
-
d4ndo[m]
The cashier thinks you send some money on your own debit card. So he/she assumes he knows your identity. They never check for counterfeilt money. I paid with 200 EUR. They dont care.
-
d4ndo[m]
Usualy the freak out if you pay with 200 EUr
-
syntax_
I wanted to try buying with prepaid cards (bought from stores), with fake billing details etc., but then a lot of sellers require selfies etc.
-
d4ndo[m]
Yes - it is a pain.
-
d4ndo[m]
Same thing with sim cards. KYC is needed for sim cards.
-
syntax_
I'm wondering if it's worth just staying with Coinbase if only to avoid going through the same awful verification steps with some other exchange. I can't seem to find any cash trades on LocalMonero based in my country...
-
d4ndo[m]
You could try Bisq.
-
d4ndo[m]
But it only does BTC <-> XMR
-
d4ndo[m]
And fiat to BTC
-
syntax_
do you know what the account setup / verification steps require?
-
d4ndo[m]
On Bisq?
-
d4ndo[m]
There is non.
-
syntax_
ah yes, decentralised, just opened their site and saw that
-
syntax_
thanks
-
iizegrim[m]
Hi ... any tech here? Anyone use or tried mms?
-
iizegrim[m]
... or multisig in general?
-

Probably a lot of people buying weed on the darknet at 3 am.
-
sech1
what time zone is this "3am"?
-
d4ndo[m]
CET
-
sech1
it's probably minerxmr payouts (they're made every 24 hours)
-
sech1
it's 13k miners there
-
d4ndo[m]
ah ok
-
d4ndo[m]
But it is sort of a unified distribution. So Monero is adopted world wide.
-
d4ndo[m]
not adopted it is »used« world wide.
-

The Pentagon is planing a wargame since 2018. In that scenario the GenZ will steal moneay from big coorps and banks and transfer the wealth to Bitcoin and GenZ. ^^
-
d4ndo[m]
Move it out of the system so to say.
-
d4ndo[m]
-
d4ndo[m]
For that to happen GenZ has to stop using Apple products.
-
d4ndo[m]
Start using Open source hard and software. Build up mesh networks.

“Zbellion”
-
d4ndo[m]
Yes. #Zbellion.
-
charolastra
it's not like those dollars disapear. they are just transfered somewhere else
-
d4ndo[m]
It is a wealth redistribution - sort of.

bunch of boomers who lost contact with reality ...
-
versionsix
you don't need to be a boomer to lose contact with reality
-
d4ndo[m]
XD
-
charolastra
right, but the chances are much higher when you're an old fuck
-
d4ndo[m]
I wouldn't say that. You are not willing to learn as much - when you are old.
-
charolastra
exactly. a lot of people stagnate
-
d4ndo[m]
A lot of Boomer don't like computer. They do NOT understand them
-
charolastra
and for boomers that stagnation happened long before cryptocoins were on the horizon. those are the people that had issues setting the clock on their VCRs
-
d4ndo[m]
^^
-
versionsix
so these boomers ignored to use the digital media when the paper legacy transition system was still active
-
versionsix
when they let go of the transition system boomers get mad that they can't use the paper transition system anymore
-
d4ndo[m]
But a lot of the boomer have great people skills. They use that to control the GenZ. But the power shifts into the digitasl world.
-
versionsix
ever spoken to a GenZ in person, they are totally different individually compared when in group
-
d4ndo[m]
ok
-
d4ndo[m]
Didn't notice that.
-
d4ndo[m]
Ok- I am admin now in the irc channel #zbellion
-
d4ndo[m]
I created the channel
-
charolastra
do zoomers use IRC?
-
d4ndo[m]
No - They use Tik Tok.
-
charolastra
right, it was a rethoric question
-
d4ndo[m]
I think GenX uses IRC- don't they?
-
d4ndo[m]
And GenY
-
charolastra
sure. what are you?
-
d4ndo[m]
I'm somewhere inbetween
-
d4ndo[m]
What are you?
-
philogy
?
-
charolastra
just old enough to remember reality before 9/11
-
d4ndo[m]
9/11 was the birth of the surveillance state.

Hi all, can monerod be set up to run through tor?

asymptotically: thanks, I think I'll use it once it's out of the experimental stage.

hello

when genesis is started with block number +0 new chain dont start

if genesis start with block 0 everything is ok
-

strange because there is code that fulfill this choice

onion-monero-blockchain-explorer, @ api/outputsblocks, do you get to see the specific subaddress/integrated address xmr is being sent to? i dont see anything like either listed in the example results

Everyone please stop spamming the channel. This one is for silence

Ah yes, that's what modern communication tools were made for: silence...

hi
-
KrishnAncap[m]
what do you think the "average non-crypto normie" would think about monero?
-
d4ndo[m]
Nerds.
-
endor00[m]
^ +1
-
moneromooo
They'd most likely think whatever it is is the prevalent view in the media.
-
Copenhagen_Bram
So what will kovri be like?
-
Copenhagen_Bram
Will Kovri work on Tails OS?
-
riceandbeans
When upgrading wallet cli and daemon across versions, is there anything to be aware of? Are there any upgrade procedures or just change the binaries and you're done?
