moneromooo
It's to decide where to request blocks from when you start your wallet, to hide your exact previous sync state.
-
magnum90
i leave it as is
-
magnum90
am i right about many useless defines on wallet2.cpp
-
magnum90
genesis has version 1 and transfer is not working
-
magnum90
aemon_send_resp.status != CORE_RPC_STATUS_OK. THROW EXCEPTION: error::tx_rejected
-
magnum90

-
magnum90
block 0 version 1
-

Steven_M
Hi all. :-)
-
Steven_M
Has anyone here used SimpleSwap, is so what did you think of it?
-
Steven_M
I meant *if* so
-
Mochi101
moneromooo, you around?
-
moneromooo
I am.
-
moneromooo
You could I am an aspherical cow...
-
Mochi101
Something is strange with the RPC Pay stuff.
-
Mochi101
I set it up... It was working fine.
-
Mochi101
and then... It's done something really strange... doesn't work anymore... no more mining... everything has slowed down when I do rpc_payment_info
-
Mochi101
opening the wallet takes forever now
-
moneromooo
Do you have any RAM left :)
-
Mochi101
Windows taskman says ~55% used
-
Mochi101
-
Mochi101
This is how it was going...
-
moneromooo
Is it actually mining (as reported by rpc_payment_info) ?
-
Mochi101
It was... but then it just stalled out... so I closed it and reopened it.
-
Mochi101
2020-05-02 21:12:06.691 11304 INFO logging contrib/epee/src/mlog.cpp:273 New log categories: *:WARNING,net:FATAL,net.http:FATAL,net.ssl:FATAL,net.p2p:FATAL,net.cn:FATAL,global:INFO,verify:FATAL,serialization:FATAL,daemon.rpc.payment:ERROR,stacktrace:INFO,logging:INFO,msgwriter:INFO
-
moneromooo
And now, is it (1) stalling and (2) mining ?
-
Mochi101
Seems stalled.
-
moneromooo
Does top show it taking 100% CPU ?
-
Mochi101
I just did an rpc_payment_info and it gave me my ID, secret key and then it was really slow at saying error: failed to query daemon
-
Mochi101
No, fans aren't even on
-
moneromooo
Ah, timing out on daemon RPC then I guess.
-
Mochi101
I will restart the daemon.
-
moneromooo
Wait
-
moneromooo
pstack `pidof monerod`
-
Mochi101
Well... they are both local... but... yeah it's going around the world or something and then coming back to me.
-
moneromooo
Let's see if it's stuck somewhere.
-
Mochi101
*ahem* Windows
-
moneromooo
OK, restart then.
-
Mochi101
ok... seems it was just a communication problem
-
Mochi101
they're both local but I send traffic through a VPS
-
Mochi101
So wallet goes out into the wild and then comes back in to the daemon.
-
Mochi101
This is interesting stuff though.
-
Mochi101
Sorry to bother.
-
Mochi101
There was just no indication of timeout or anything like that.
-
moneromooo
np, I could totally believe there's a bug.
-
Mochi101
Also, it seems that credits are only for current session... is that correct?
-
Mochi101
Well, I'm going to set an RPC Pay node up and run it full time... See how it all goes.
-
moneromooo
Credits time out 6 months after the account was used last (or whenever the deamon owner nukes the credits file)
-
moneromooo
When you restart simplewallet, it'll roll new key, for privacy reasons. You can tell it to reuse the previous key though, for less privacy and to reuse any credits you already had.
-
Mochi101
oh I see
-
Mochi101
So probably I got a new key and lost the credits that I previously had.
-
moneromooo
Probably. The wallet stops after it gets 50k or so, so you'll never have a huge balance anyway.
-
moneromooo
< Mochi101> I just did an rpc_payment_info and it gave me my ID, secret key[...]
-
Mochi101
How will mobile devices handle this stuff?
-
moneromooo
That secret key is what lets you reuse the credits after restart.
-
Mochi101
yeah, I figured
-
moneromooo
They won't, unless they're made to do this. The workhorse is in the wallet lib, so they'd just need to enable/disable it.
-
moneromooo
If they don't, the daemon returns errors with "payment required".
-
Mochi101
yesh I seen these messages when connecting to my daemon
-
Mochi101
and it won't even let you update the blocks hey
-
moneromooo
Like a credit card, refresh and pay later ? Nobody will pay later :P
-
Mochi101
Would be nice to be able to mine on a computer and then use a key in Monerujo or something.
-
Mochi101
So get your credits on your computer... then allow your mobile wallet (or wherever) to be able to use them.
-
moneromooo
That's the idea, yes.
-
moneromooo
Reminds me needmoney90 had some idea about making the link betewen computer/mobile hidden...
-
Mochi101
or be able to just outright buy credits from a node
-
moneromooo
The node owner can bump your balance (manually). You could make a deal.
-
moneromooo
Like a website where you ask for pubkey, you give a subaddress, receiving some money on it bumps the pubkey's credit balance.
-
Mochi101
I mean like an automated sort of thing... Maybe that might be spammy though.
-
Mochi101
oh that's a good idea moneromooo
-
Mochi101
That's an awesome idea.
-
moneromooo
Most nodes don't have payment setup atm anyway, so people will just change nodes.
-
Mochi101
I guess hey.
-
moneromooo
I have a suspiscion assholes like chain analysis company will continue to run "free" nodes.
-
Mochi101
"premium" service maybe
-
moneromooo
You'll pay with your privacy.
-
Mochi101
exactly
-
yanmaani
Mochi101: Chaumian ecash?
-
yanmaani
I think you'll have enough incentives to run nodes
-
yanmaani
If you're a miner, you can collect txn fees, right?
-
yanmaani
and so, you'd want for people to send transactions
-
yanmaani
so of course you run nodes for free
-
Mochi101
Well... I'd pick a public node like node.xmr.to befor I went with some random.
-
Mochi101
So I think the value comes in the entity that's running it.
-
yanmaani
What services do these nodes provide? Blockchain CDN, transaction acceptance, what more?
-
Mochi101
What is the "Credit discrepancy this session: ##" referring to moneromooo ?
-
moneromooo
Difference between "I thought this was gonna cost X" and "It actually cost Y".
-
Mochi101
oooh
-
moneromooo
Ideally it'd be 0. Non zero means the wallet estimates wrong, or the daemon scams, or gives you cheaper stuff.
-
moneromooo
More likely the former :)
-
Mochi101
Can it be negative?
-
moneromooo
Yes.
-
Mochi101
I win if it's negative hey.
-
Mochi101
:D
-
moneromooo
Can't recall which direction it goes, but yes :)
-
Mochi101
So basically this is all like a lottery though hey... someone is submissing some hashes on your behalf but you only really get something out of it if that person actually mines a block right?
-
moneromooo
Yes.
-
Mochi101
So like playing Lotto 6/49 but with a billion times worse odds?
-
Mochi101
;)
-
moneromooo
No idea about how odds compare.
-
Mochi101
Yeah, I wasn't being serious.
-
moneromooo
You have control over the diff and credits per hash found.
-
Mochi101
I seen that yeah, I just left it at the default stuff though.
-
moneromooo
I don't know whether the default's appropriate fwiw.
-
moneromooo
yanmaani: most RPC are gated.
-
yanmaani
moneromooo: Sorry, missed some context here
-
yanmaani
what do the RPCs do?
-
moneromooo
Well, a lot of stuff. This was a reply to "< yanmaani> What services do these nodes provide? Blockchain CDN, transaction acceptance, what more?"
-
moneromooo
There's stuff for getting output data, relaying txes, getting historical block/tx data, etc.
-
moneromooo
Getting txpool state is also a common used one.
-
yanmaani
This doesn't seem so burdensome. Relaying txes = transaction acceptance
-
yanmaani
mempool too, yes
-
yanmaani
But what would you charge for, exactly? There's an incentive to accept txns already is my point
-
moneromooo
From when you were away: < moneromooo> I don't know whether the default's appropriate fwiw.
-
moneromooo
(the default "price")
-
Mochi101
yanmaani, paying with hashes though hey
-
yanmaani
Mochi101: What?
-
yanmaani
you'd hash some on your computer and get a blinded token for node X
-
Mochi101
Yes, mining on behalf of the node.
-
Mochi101
moneromooo, Error: Error mining to daemon: Found nonce, but daemon errored out with: 'RPC payment did not increase balance', continuing
-
Mochi101
So this happened again... I restarted the daemon... connected no problem and the wallet gave me that message and my credits were gone.
-
moneromooo
Does your client appear in the daemon's rpc_payment_info list ?
-
Mochi101
yes... but with my new balance
-
Mochi101
rpc_payments was the command btw
-
moneromooo
OK, file a bug please.
-
Mochi101
OK
-
Mochi101
:)

will the debian Monero packages be able to stay reasonably up-to-date? Debian historically is not known for keeping close to upstream or introducing major new packages for stable

> will the debian Monero packages be able to stay reasonably up-to-date? Debian historically is not known for keeping close to upstream or introducing major new packages for stable

ErCiccione
thrmo: There are two entities that are managing debian packages. Whonix is maintaining an external repository that cna beasily be added you your sources.list Another group is maintaining monero CLI packages for Debian 'unstable' and 'Testing'. If you are using one of the tow, you can install monero by simply doing `apt install monero`, without the need to add an external repo
-
kinghat[m]
is the moo-updater in "the repos"?
-
kinghat[m]
windows has their own package manager now as well
-
thrmo
thanks ErCiccione
-
Mochi101
Credit discrepancy this session: 73958 (5374.85%)
-
moneromooo
o_O
-
Mochi101
Yeah, kind of a strange number hey.
-
Mochi101
Seems it doesn't really pay any attention to the "Credits Target" value either moneromooo
-
Mochi101
Both the client and the daemon tell me I'm over 55000 credits and the target is 50000
-
Jackman2
hi
-
Jackman2
moneromooo will there be usdt on tori swappable trustlessly with monero?
-
Jackman2
I want this

-
Mochi101
hehehe
-
Jackman2
hi Mochi101
-
Mochi101
hello
-
Jackman2
are you a monero inner mechanism expert?
-
Mochi101
no
-
Jackman2
what's your level of nerd financial knowledge from 0 to 10
-
Jackman2
?
-
Mochi101
I don't know.
-
Mochi101
I'm probably a bit more than average.
-
Jackman2
so 5.5
-
Jackman2
or 6
-
Mochi101
and you?
-
Jackman2
what would please you the most as a new implementation in monero?
-
Jackman2
me about monero I'd say 3/10
-
Jackman2
or maybe 4
-
Jackman2
and about implementation, atomic swap would please me the most
-
Jackman2
what about u
-
Mochi101
return addresses
-
Jackman2
yah great idea
-
Jackman1
hi msvb-mob
-
msvb-mob
Hello Jackman1.
-
Jackman1
what are you

trader?
-
Jackman1
nerd?

rich or poor?
-
d4ndo[m]

-
d4ndo[m]
Can trading really make money?
-
Jackman2
no
-
Jackman2
it's all fake
-
Jackman2
banks have traders and pay them millions but they never make money
-
d4ndo[m]
Thoought so.
-
Jackman2
it's one of the biggest industry of the world but nobody ever made money out of it
-
Jackman2
it's all fake scam illusion
-
d4ndo[m]
sarcasm doesn't work in text form.
-
d4ndo[m]
You need to set the ironie flags.
-
d4ndo[m]
I dont know. All this thechnical analytics is bullshit to my opinion.
-
asymptotically
woah, the chart looks like a cock and balls! that means that the price is going to go up 350% in the next 5 minutes!
-
d4ndo[m]
XD
-
d4ndo[m]
-
d4ndo[m]
On extreme fear is a good time to buy some.
-
d4ndo[m]
I could trade weed for Monero. That could work.
-
d4ndo[m]
You just scan a QR-code in the central park and my quadcopter/drone delivers the package.
-
d4ndo[m]
drops it with a parashut
-
d4ndo[m]
Or maybe just an app that transfers the gps location.
-
d4ndo[m]
No - wait Apple wont allow it.
-
d4ndo[m]
An onion site.
-
d4ndo[m]
But the police could just follow the drone to my place. So not so good idea
-
d4ndo[m]
I could add a RingCT to my drone.
-
yanmaani
I can't tell who you're talking to so it much be one of the schizos
-
yanmaani
we should have as policy to tell the degenerate gamblers to fuck off to #monero-markets though
-
d4ndo[m]
True.
-
a8_
hey guys
-
a8_
so i was just watching monerod sync
-
a8_
and i see this "2020-06-02 21:53:36.633 I Host 67.189.67.222 blocked." what is that about?
-
moneromooo
I thought that was just someone having an idea and monologing it ?
-
moneromooo
a8_: that peer sent something repeatedly which your daemon did not like.
