hi folks, i am running monerod on one machine on my LAN and then trying to run wallet-cli on another machine, there isn't any firewall issues between them and they are both in default config, any reason why the wallet can't find the daemon on the standard port, am I am running monerod vanilla with no options atm. thx.
-
ianthius
running wallet-cli with --daemon-host
-
ianthius
do i need to use the public-node option on monerod if it's not on the same machine as the wallet software?
-
TrasherDK1
Don't forget --rpc-bind-ip
-
TrasherDK1
On monerod
-
ianthius
TrasherDK1: thx. so i should bind that to my local IP address of the monerod machine?
-
ianthius
do i need to set an rpc username and pass? do you know if i need to set the public-node option?
-
parrhesia
msg/ nickserv set cloak on
-
ianthius
TrasherDK1: thanks for the hint. I ran rpc-bind-ip which I think would be good, but then it warned me about non encrypted traffic, which in my case, probably didn't matter, but I decided to do an ssh tunnel instead. :)
-
ianthius
which seems to be working well.

What do you guys think of the incognito project? in terms of privacy, does it offer a solution that helps Monero?
-
asymptotically
what is the incognito project?
-
moneromooo
Exactly.
-
chrisssssz
hi
-
chrisssssz
any LocalBitcoins user here? need help for a dispute

It´s all a bit vague, trying to understand it better.
-
chrisssssz
some LocalBitcoins vendor here?

asymptotically
Shizlet8: the devs control most of the network (including some scary sounding "beacon" node), and they control over 80% of the coin supply via a premine. doesn't sound good

Shizlet: currently, you give them your xmr, they give you an IOU, and then you trade the xmr for a BTC IOU, and bring it back to them to be cashed out.

Shizlet8 the mods made a decision to remove their exchange ads for false advertising, they bury the lede on the 'decentralization' pretty hard

We do not recommend using them in their current state

it was a press release article on another site. quite hard to find anything about them

hey folks, i am using a ledger nano s and i created a wallet in wallet-cli and it works great, but when i try to open via the GUI is says, E Unable to open device 1:11415
-
selsta
ianthius: make sure that Ledger Live is closed.
-
ianthius
selsta: i don't have that installed
-
ianthius
dEBRUYNE: mentioned on reddit something about special char passwords... is that really a thing related to this?
-
dEBRUYNE
No it is unrelated to this particular error
-
dEBRUYNE
ianthius: What is the version of your Ledger Monero App (on the device)?
-
ianthius
the latest, afaik, let me check
-
ianthius
dEBRUYNE: 1.4.2
-
selsta
Please try 1.5.1, while it should also work with 1.4.2 using the latest version is better.
-
ianthius
it opens in cli right now and then i close it and try to use the GUI by 'opening a wallet file' from the GUI and it asks for password then gives that error
-
selsta
Did you properly close the CLI with exit?
-
ianthius
yes
-
ianthius
sounds like my monero app is out of date then.
-
selsta
Unable to open device: 1:11415
-
dEBRUYNE
You are using GUI v0.15.0.4 right?
-
selsta
means that the usb connection is still in use
-
selsta
try restarting your computer, it should solve the issue
-
ianthius
dEBRUYNE: yes, that is correct
-
ianthius
selsta: interesting, why wouldn't the cli wallet app complain too? because I can open it again with CLI, maybe some handshake between the apps that is still engaged?
-
selsta
because somehow the CLI didn’t free it properly, not sure why
-
selsta
maybe a new bug
-
ianthius
selsta: dang, not a big fan of a reboot, i'll try disconnecting the wallet first
-
ianthius
then i'll upgrade my monero app on the ledger
-
ianthius
disconnecting and reconnecting seemed to work just fine. Something to look into though i suppose. I'll try to see if i can get a repro
-
chrissssssz
hi
-
chrissssssz
anyone from LocalBitcoins? need help with a controversy?
-
dEBRUYNE
ianthius: To be clear, you managed to get it working with the GUI now?
-
chrissssz
looking for locabitcoins.com vendor for a help with a controversy
-
chrissssz
localbitcoins.com*
-
moneromooo
Maybe ask in a bitcoin channel.
-
ianthius
dEBRUYNE: yes, thank you. It's working with the GUI. However, I have not had a chance to try and repro the bug that got me there in the first place.
-
dEBRUYNE
If you manage to repro it, please post a bug report on Github :)
-
ianthius
i will, not sure how relevant it will be though given that I am on an old version of the monero app on ledger... i should upgrade that
-
chrissssz
moneromoo I tried but none respond, so I tried here
-
ianthius
i'd really like a faster HW though because if you choose not to export the view key this thing is soooo slow
-
chrissssz
even tried in the LocalBitcoins channel but nothing
-
selsta
The hardware is not good enough to calculate everything on device.
-
chrissssz
but guys LocalBitcoins is not anymore a good source of btc
-
ianthius
is there any way to get some status to know what is happening when i do one of these without exporting the view key? just to know it's not hung?
-
chrissssz
I've been scammed 2 times in a row and opened the controversy but takes ages to respond
-
ianthius
chrissssz: have you tried bisq?
-
selsta
ianthius: I wouldn’t even try it, unusably slow.
-
dEBRUYNE
You should see the status refresh in monero-wallet-cli
-
dEBRUYNE
^ ianthius
-
chrissssz
i will tri bisq
-
ianthius
dEBRUYNE: yes, it did just now finally start giving me status
-
ianthius
on the previous wallet i did export the view key and then it asked for my wallet password mid-refresh. which was strange, ( i think when it found a transaction?), but then the output got all messed up. So i just went to sleep and when I woke up everything was back to normal and it was displaying fine. But the nano was blank and the cli wasn't updating for a while.
-
dEBRUYNE
The wallet will ask for the password if it receives an output
-
ianthius
dEBRUYNE: does it keep syncing though if you don't type one in?
-
ianthius
it basically got all horked after that one output was received (e.g. the terminal stopped being reponsive and the hardware wallet screen went MIA)
-
dEBRUYNE
Afaik no
-
ianthius
dEBRUYNE: that's too bad, since this process is so slow, it's really suited to set and forget for the hours it needs..
-
selsta
ianthius: Are you talking about CLI or GUI?
-
selsta
you can turn this off
-
selsta
`set ask-password 1`
-
selsta
but then your spend key will not be encrypted in memory
-
Copenhagen_Bram
Hello!
-
ianthius
selsta: thank you. So with the current wallet I am not exporting the view key, the output in the wallet-cli is stuck at a particular block height and not moving, any idea how to determine if it's stalled or just not reporting the progress?
-
Copenhagen_Bram
Monero GUI v0.15.0.4 will not create a hardware wallet even when my Trezor is plugged in and unlocked.
-
selsta
Copenhagen_Bram: please continue to use GUI v0.15.0.2 until the next version is released.
-
selsta
we accidentally compiled without Trezor support.
-
selsta
-
selsta
ianthius: I would recommend to quit and retry with exported view key.
-
Copenhagen_Bram
oof
-
ianthius
selsta: i did this when the ledger first came out and it worked just fine, i don't want to export my view key. I guess i'll just let it run for a few hours and see what happens.
-
selsta
Copenhagen_Bram: alternatively you can compile the GUI yourself, it is quite easy
-
selsta
ianthius: ok, please report back
-
Copenhagen_Bram
Where can I get hashes for previous versions of Monero?
-
selsta
they are included in the release notes on github, if you want signed hashes:
reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/eaj3u6…i_v01502_carbon_chamaeleon_released
-
Copenhagen_Bram
ah thanks, I meant to say signed hashes
-
newyearday
for new chain when i do sweep_single for block that is v12 i have "no outputs found"
-
newyearday
i need to mine and after sweep_single?
-
newyearday
i thought that v12 block dont need more than 1 output

Is a remote node connection encrypted? I'd like to run a node on one computer and connect to it with monero-gui from the other computer over my LAN. Is that any less secure than running a local node on the same computer/
-
Copenhagen_Bram
s/\//?/
-
selsta
AFAIK it uses SSL
-
Copenhagen_Bram
Oh neat
-
Copenhagen_Bram
How do I change the GUI's graphics mode to use SSL?
-
Copenhagen_Bram
erm... I mean, software
-
Copenhagen_Bram
instead of openGL
-
selsta
software rendering?
-
selsta
QMLSCENE_DEVICE=softwarecontext ./monero-wallet-gui
-
Copenhagen_Bram
thanks
-
Copenhagen_Bram
How do I connect to the node running on my other computer? I've put in the local IP address and 18081 as the port for a remote node in the GUI. But nothing happens when I click connect.
