hyc
that would mean they're learning ;)
-
sech1
nope, no signs of solo minings
-
sech1
7 unknown blocks in the last 100, this is norm
-
sech1
most of these unknown blocks are from f2pool
-
gingeropolous
then where'd he go
-
sethsimmons
Got kicked off Azure, I would imagine
-
sethsimmons
Maybe they finally read the reports
-
gingeropolous
ok, so what parameters could be tweaked to incentivise solo mining
-
gingeropolous
locktimes would just drive pps etc
-
gingeropolous
unless you put like 1 yr locktimes on them
-
moneromooo
100 years. Mine to provide a future for your grandchildren!
-
gingeropolous
i dunno. my head keeps going to the notion that the more time you put between the activity and the incentive, the more honest the miners would be
-
gingeropolous
yeah thats crazy but that could be it
-
UkoeHB_
before checking the PoW for a block, force the miner to add a signature on the block with the one-time address in the miner tx; quick way to drive network hash rate into the dirt!
-
gingeropolous
i mean, right now that'd run into friction with the emission curve
-
gingeropolous
but for the tail, perhaps a different story
-
gingeropolous
but then you effectively remove any incentive to mine, but maintain an attack surface in the form of a low network hr
-
gingeropolous
yah know cause mr. azure can just come in with 900 gajillion h/s
-
UkoeHB_
yep if you prevent pool mining then you just encourage plantation mining
-
moneromooo
Is that... a pun ?
-
sech1
To incentivize solo mining, we need 10x more blocks/day. Only then smaller miners would have chance to mine a block.
-
gingeropolous
well could always bring back 1 min blocks
-
jwinterm
>the more honest the miners would be
-
jwinterm
what does that mean? less likely to 51% attack?
-
gingeropolous
indeed, that was the backsplanation for tft's choice of 1 min blocks
-
xmrpow
Would it be possible to keep the network in sync with a 15s block time ?
-
xmrpow
Like eth does.
-
xmrpow
Or would it be too much bloat.
-
xmrpow
When im looking at eth blockchain size it s probably too much bloat ;)
-
asymptotically
xmr already switched from a 1 minute block time to a 2 minute block time target
-
asymptotically
eth gets a ton of orphans, but they're a feature so they call them "uncles" instead :P
-
xmrpow
Do you know why xmr devs opted for 2 min instead of one 1min?
-
xmrpow
Is it just about blockchain size and orphans?
-
gingeropolous
it was mostly about orphan rate
-
xmrpow
ok
-
gingeropolous
and the fact that the 1 min blocktime was chosen by tft because fast blocktimes were all the rage in 2014
-
gingeropolous
so there was no rational reason for 1 min
-
xmrpow
Have there been thoughts about increasing the block time to 10 mins like btc?
-
hyc
that would be a major regression
-
xmrpow
why?
-
niocbrrrrrr
Don't think so, when to move from 1 minute happened 4 minutes was also considered
-
xmrpow
It would reduce blockchain size...
-
asymptotically
would it? the transactions take up most of the space
-
xmrpow
ok but wouldnt it reduce some metadata, that is always stored although the blocks are empty
-
asymptotically
a few hundred bytes for the actual block. more when it goes into the database
-
asymptotically
seems like we don't get many empty blocks now though, which is nice
