Hah, nothing quite so absurd, PC decided to up and die over the weekend that I keep my keys on, so rebuilt, but needed to get the keys out of cold storage.

gingeropolous
does the GUI automagically work on android?
-
selsta
no
-
selsta
well yes if your screen is large enough
-
selsta
but there is no mobile ui
-
gingeropolous
gotcha. so the software architecture would work, its just that there's no "mobile" subset of how things should look and work as of now
-
selsta
Jaquee created an UI but it went unmaintained so we removed it
-
gingeropolous
oooh yeah
-
selsta
it probably needed an mobile first UI concept anyway
-
gingeropolous
what do you mean
-
selsta
taking the desktop UI and trying to fit it to mobile usually doesn’t work well
-
gingeropolous
ah, so a relatively large overhaul
-
selsta
if we want a proper mobile wallet yes
-
gingeropolous
i wonder how easy it is to make the network components only work on certain type of networks.. i.e., cellular vs wifi
-
gingeropolous
i know i've seen android software do that ( options to only download updates on wifi for example, or google drive only sync on wifi etc)
-
selsta
-
selsta
worst case is writing android / ios code by hand
-
gingeropolous
hrm

i wonder if moneromooo would be happy with the idea of full pruning for a phone node. I mean, 25ish gigs isn't huge..... but its also not small.
-
selsta
running a full pruned node doesn’t require GUI?
-
gingeropolous
?
-
gingeropolous
so, currently you run can a full node on a phone (with cli), you could run a pruned node on a phone (with cli).
-
selsta
yes
-
moneromooo
Full as in not even a seventh ?
-
gingeropolous
but nowhere in the daemon code is the ability for full prune. you always keep 1/8th of the chain
-
moneromooo
Eigth.
-
gingeropolous
yeah
-
moneromooo
eighth.
-
moneromooo
Not super wild about it. You'd gain an extra... (75-25) / 7
-
moneromooo
So it's still ~18 GB.
-
moneromooo
And you become totally useless.
-
selsta
yep does not sound worth it
-
selsta
the amount of users who would run a node on a phone is super small anyway
-
moneromooo
There are other ways to make a light node if you're going to be useless.

gingeropolous
i dunno. smart phone penetration is quite high. id say for most of the world its their only compute device
-
gingeropolous
and we're effectively forcing these folks to rely on trusted third parties... ?
-
selsta
Like you said, they can run a node on Android.
-
gingeropolous
right.
-
selsta
getmonero.org even offers prebuilt bins now :D
-
gingeropolous
expecting a phone node to serve as a sync server or relay though... seems a bit much
-
selsta
?
-
gingeropolous
just regarding data usage.
-
gingeropolous
i mean, what are the stats on daily data usage for a node running in standard mode, well integrated into the network?
-
selsta
Can’t they simply limit connections / bandwidth?
-
gingeropolous
right. and i don't think you could get any incoming connections with mobile anyway
-
selsta
I still think a light wallet server would make most sense on mobile. A node would kill your battery life.
-
selsta
Although hyc has been running a node on his phone fine :P
-
-
kinghat
does the gui use flexbox layout styling?
-
luigi1111
I flex all over those bots
-
gingeropolous
jonathancross, hycs running cli afaik
-
gingeropolous
in your longpost, you mention connecting to a remote node.... again, some high % only have phones. there no remote node to connect to .
-
gingeropolous
we're working with the theory that the individual wants to be as trustless as possible, so random public node won't do
-
selsta
kinghat: flexbox = CSS? no
-
selsta
luigi1111: hi luigi can we get merges this weekend pls sir
