is there a signing-only monero software app?
-
gingeropolous
once again im pondering the whole digital identity thing and the fact that I think i did the pgp thing with the stuff where you get the key, like back in the day
-
gingeropolous
but.... i definitely know where my monero wallet is... and its effectively the same thing
-
gingeropolous
problem is, of course, i don't wanna go boot up my wallet to go sign documents or whatever it is that needs signing
-
gingeropolous
hrm.. this is prolly literally cutting and pasting from the existing code into some new program
-
sethsimmons
Honestly if we could do simple identity services on Monero it would be a nice (and easy to add) feature
-
sethsimmons
Since people using Monero have to be familiar with simple KMS anyways
-
sethsimmons
I think it’s a great idea if someone can build it, especially a SUPER simple desktop/mobile app
-
midipoet
gingeropolous: whats your interest in digital identity if you don't mind me asking?
-
midipoet
i have had discussions about identity over in monero-compliance, but it sort of got shifted away. am still interested in the topic though. i also think there is a definite need for a well built/architected system
-
moneromooo
Shen had a paper on this, identity chains, where you can prove things without disclosing others.
-
normo
@sethsimmons what exactly do you mean with 'simple identity services on Monero'?
-
sethsimmons
Just the ability to handle logins/personas/pseudonyms with the same private key I use for a Monero wallet
-
sethsimmons
SSO across sites etc etc
-
sethsimmons
Combined with GPG like “proof” of identity
-
moneromooo
What's the advantage vs a login/password list file ?
-
moneromooo
When I see "SSO", I think "spying" :)
-
sethsimmons
:P
-
sethsimmons
Mostly to combine identity with something I’ll use anyways (Monero), and to allow for more decentralized auth
-
sethsimmons
AFAIK there are also other benefits but I’m not well versed
-
sethsimmons
Just seems like an overall cool idea to use existing key pairs for identity
-
gingeropolous
midipoet, nothing in particular. But in general, hopefully more people become denizens of the decentralized infrastructure built on the internet. and that requires some form of digital identity, and if monero's gonna be The magic internet money, then, your identity can get the same protections as your finances if the keys can be multi-purpose
-
gingeropolous
i mean, could be scope creep for sure.
-
midipoet
gingeropolous: i agree. but there is resistance from others, so i have stopped talking about it
-
jwinterm
I never really thought about the privacy implications of using a single key pair to sign on to a bunch of different sites/services before
-
jwinterm
tbf I don't really consider the privacy implications of almost anything, but I think mooo does bring up a fair point
-
midipoet
i think if we all carry a mobile phone, we have failed already
-
Inge-
so we need mesh networks and sovereign devices
-
» midipoet googles "how to make a mobile phone"
-
Inge-
well, you have the pinephone and the other one ...
-
rdymac
a PinePhone with Locha Mesh?
-
Inge-
although they still have proprietary baseband modules at the very least
-
jwinterm
pinephone and starbucks wifi
-
normo
@sethsimmons Is this something along the lines?
pypi.org/project/django-cryptolock Just curious.

sethsimmons
