<rehrar[m] "Feel free to join matrix.monero."> Think there might be some federation problems. I can't DM @appservice-irc and can't join any channels/communities in usethe.tools server.
-
sethsimmons[m]
Was able to get IRC bridge working, still working on the other issue.
-
sethsimmons
All working now π
-
sethsimmons
Just needed an invite to the other home server and all is well.
-
sethsimmons
Great work whoever set this up!
-
sethsimmons
Joining rooms on other home servers via links does not work, FWIW. That seems to be the only outstanding issue.

sgp_
how do I sign up? maybe a dumb question
-
xmrscott[m]1
sgp_: Depends on client
-
xmrscott[m]1
Basically just specify home server as matrix.monero.social
-
sgp_
does it work in element web?
-
xmrscott[m]1
Presumably. It works in the desktop version which is barely different TMK
-
sgp_
can we set up these IRC bridges as rooms there?
-
xmrscott[m]1
Should be able to, yes. No reason why we couldn't unless AppService isn't set up
-
sgp_
I think that's a huge UX improvement
-
sgp_
-
sgp_
if there were the bridged rooms on the left, that would be amazing imo
-
xmrscott[m]1
You can create 'Communities' which is basically a collection of rooms
-
xmrscott[m]1
ErCiccione has one on the matrix.org home server
-
sgp_
I made a public MS room there and bridged it successfully
-
sgp_
okay, I see the communities part
-
sgp_
is there a way to auto-add people to a default community? with the most common channels?
-
xmrscott[m]1
I couldn't find anything w/ a quick search, but perhaps I missed something
-
sgp_
-
sgp_
it's actually pretty lame we can't do this, since it would streamline the initial onboarding a lot
-
xmrscott[m]1
Could always put the link for the 'Community' set in -community room's topic
-
xmrscott[m]1
As a workaround, assuming -community would be the most visisted
-
xmrscott[m]1
The nice thing is that it only shows 'local' rooms, which are Monero rooms, so not much noise to begin with
-
sgp_
agreed, once they click on the list of rooms it's pretty straightforward
-
Mumuks[m]
<xmrscott[m]1 "The nice thing is that it only s"> Is it not federated?
-
mechanic41turk[m
BTW, can you guys set the local room directory at monero.social to public, so that people from other homeservers can add monero.social's homeserver for browsing its chat rooms?
-
mechanic41turk[m
-
xmrscott[m]1
<Mumuks[m] "Is it not federated?"> It is. What I'm referring to is the reference Element client UI only showing by default the local rooms when you click the compass icon. If you use the dropdown within that menu, you can select matrix.org, etc. (Which is how I'm tied into the Monero Translations room on matrix.org)
-
xmrscott[m]1
> <@Mumuks:matrix.org> Is it not federated?

xmrscott[m]1
* It is. What I'm referring to is the reference Element client UI only showing by default the local rooms when you click the compass icon. If you use the dropdown within that menu, you can select matrix.org, etc. (Which is how I'm tied into the Monero Translations room on matrix.org since currently that hasn't been bridged yet on monero.social)
-
-
-
xmrscott[m]1
This is what I'm referring to: ^
-
xmrscott[m]1
<mechanic41turk[m "image.png"> Almost. It's matrix.monero.social
-
mechanic41turk[m
-
-
mechanic41turk[m
<mechanic41turk[m "xmrscott:
matrix.monero."> that probably points out that the room directory of monero.social is not public
-
mechanic41turk[m
-
mechanic41turk[m
the room directory for people who signed up on monero.social is visible, since it is their own homeserver.
-
mechanic41turk[m
But for people like me who have other homeservers, the room directory of monero.social is foreign and not public.
-
mechanic41turk[m
As far as I could understand from the github thread I posted, the admin of the matrix instance must make the room directory public.
-
xmrscott[m]1
Yeah, this seems to be the case messing around on mobile. Looks like admins will need to update config rehrar : ^ pigeons ^

xmrscott[m]1
FWIW, found a bug w/ the Element client on desktop. Once you've specified a different home server, if you log out and try to select the matrix.org home server, it doesn't remember the selection, so you're effectively barred from matrix.org again. tl;dr if using Element, no going back to matrix.org if you use a different home sever

you can use element web to access matrix.org homeserver, if you want.
-
xmrscott[m]1
True, or any number of other clients like NeoChat, etc
-
mechanic41turk[m
yep.
-
xmrscott[m]1
Once the Monero.social rooms are public and bridged, can probably try to decommission the Matrix.org rooms
-
mechanic41turk[m
makes sense.
-
mechanic41turk[m
make sure to update the invite links on the getmonero.org, too π
-
xmrscott[m]1
Yep, that too π
-
xmrscott[m]1
Can probably find all the references with some simple Google foo
-
-
mechanic41turk[m
xmrscott: this was a solution that another fella of mine worked out.
-
-
mechanic41turk[m
It was the same issue, not being able to add bitcoinenemies.com homeserver to your client's room directory.
-
mechanic41turk[m
Now, I succeeded in adding that matrix homeserver to my client to browse, and can see all the public chat rooms in that homeserver.
-
rehrar
xmrscott[m]1: ok we'll look into it.

[REDDIT] Hi, my name is John and I am building xmrTo.cash, a clone of XMR.to, a dead simple way to convert BCH and XMR and send BCH to another BCH address "through" XMR. When all these Matrix shenanigans are figures out, might be a good idea to make a simple guide for Element users to join on Getmonero.org

Have you tried checking spam?
-
rupee[m]1
yes
-
rupee[m]1
i got it to work with a different email address
-
xmrscott[m]1
Hmm, curious
-
xmrscott[m]1
It may have to do with the spam point system email providers use and tutanote having a higher threshhold than Protonmail
-
xmrscott[m]1
As in, tutanote won't even put it in spam if it's below a certain set of 'points'
-
xmrscott[m]1
I suppose reh or pige could use
mail-tester.com and see if they can bring the score up a bit
-

xmrscott yeah we are going to setup email in a bit

xmrscott if you want to take note of the other issues like making the room directory public and message me or rehrar we'll keep a list and do them shortly
-
xmrscott[m]1
I can probably just create a giant meta task list I guess

sounds good, just point me to it if you want me to see it

Will do
