on linux, what is the best GUI for interacting with github? On windows I used to use github desktop, which i guess isn't built for linux.. (i know i am lame for wanting a gui, blah blah) :)
-
selsta
GUI for git or github?
-
rojiro
well, github uses git, so i suppose as long as it allow me to interact with git repos, that would be all, preferably dark mode UI or capatible with gnome dark themeing
-
selsta
Sublime has a git client
sublimemerge.com
-
rojiro
selsta: awesome, that might be a good place to start. thanks
-
selsta
FWIW I have found using git from the command line easier than GUIs.
-
rojiro
selsta: thanks. i probably will just move to that, but i didn really like the UI, diff features, and what not of the github desktop app... i'll have to see how i replace the various aspects of that. There is a promising thread on compiliing it for linux, so i might even give that a shot if i find some time.
-
rojiro
*did really like the UI...
-
jwinterm
rojiro, I always just bother the people on irc for help with git on cli
-
jwinterm
tbh didn't even know there was a gui
-
rojiro
jwinterm: well when i was first understanding the overall git flow of branches and PRs and what not i think the cli was just confusing, but i am pretty sure i could switch to cli now just fine. the gui was a nice set of training wheels, but I also liked the merge conflict resolution UI and what not, it's a shame it isn't supported on linux by the github team
-
jwinterm
git reset --hard head
-
jwinterm
git -f all the things

xmrscott[m]: heading over to lineageos to answer my question. I think it would be great to run something like that on pinephone. being able to run apks without a translation layer seems like what we would want for OSS mobile
-
xmrscott[m]
rojiro: LineageOS is not fully FOSS FWIW.
-
xmrscott[m]
You can run apks on Linux phones via Anbox
-
xmrscott[m]
However the current state of Anbox is pretty buggy and painful to get running, apps aren't aware of sensors (e.g. gyroscope)
-
rojiro
xmrscott[m]: yeah i think anbox support is lousy. i imagine there are a lot of android apis that need to be replaced, i think there is a project that has started to do that, I'd love to get more into this space, because it's absolutely essential that we build an open alternative ecosystem for mobile computing
-
xmrscott[m]
Yeah, having only used the PinePhone for 5 hours I get the impression any notable adoption is probably a year off
-
xmrscott[m]
Manjaro is still using alpha images (and it certainly feels like an alpha), Arch ARM still doesn't have a Plasma Mobile image out yet and won't for another month or so because of bugs. pmOS w/ Phosh was very sluggish (upwards of 8 second response latency when opening apps like Contacts)
-
xmrscott[m]
I'm hopefuly the notably better HW on the Librem5 DDR4 vs DD3, something like 4-5x the GPU shaders, higher clocked CPU will translate to a reasonably quicker to respond phone
-
xmrscott[m]
Oh yeah, another fun bug because why not. My SO called me as a test and l left my phone on the bed rather than respond, went to watch TV, and when I went past the bedroom 1.5 hours later, Manjaro was still ringing w/ an active call
-
xmrscott[m]
Just to give an idea of how much of an alpha state certain things are right now
-
xmrscott[m]
But I'll take it over using Google spyware, that's for sure. One of the few nice things about being locked down is that pretty much all missing functionality is right on my desktop; not likely I'm driving around a lot needing navigation, etc
-
rojiro
xmrscott[m]: yes lock downs have changes the need for mobile a lot actually

XMR is first on the list. Priorities!

I am sort of sad we are in the gang we are.
-

Don't worry, we have CipherTrace on our side to list us again on exchanges!

Gotta love Dave

You know what would have been cool. If Kraken and Binance would have just had the calls to pull out of Australia all together

Especially if they were employing folk there/trading through entities there

though i do think there is an existing AML compliance tool for Monero. it now means we are compliant
-
Inge-
heh. I think some of the other exchanges ended up only removing xmr and one or two others, after determining that "ZEC, DASH, XVG, KMD" where not ... privacy coins
-
thrmo
as much as I hate the term privacy coin, it was kind of insulting for those currencies to be considered one
-
thrmo
so it's nice to have that rectified.

Just finished implementing Monero atomic swaps :D Repository is

-
rehrar
others are obviously invited
-
kayabaNerve
Is jitsi just the go-to platform for the Monero community?
-
sarang
Alas, I am working outdoors today; not conducive to video/voice chat
-
rehrar
sarang: bro it's perfect

One of these days we'll open a virtual coffee shop on VRChat or something
-
kayabaNerve
Unless you also offer virtual diet coke, I may hold off :P
-
kayabaNerve
Jokes aside, it actually would be nice to get a virtual coffee shop. A place where you can be social just while you live.
-
kayabaNerve
Eh. While you work, to be more specific.
-

of course not

xmrmatterbridge
<cankerwort> Hey xmrscott have you tried out GrapheneOS as a FOSS mobile solution?
-
xmrmatterbridge
<cankerwort> Restricted to Pixels, but a very good option
-
xmrscott[m]
No, very wary of HW that's specifically developed by Google. There's bound to be some HW level spyware that phones home somehow
-
sarang
lol, or even accidentially
-
xmrscott[m]
But my very large tinfoil hat could cause bias
-
sarang
Apparently one of their home speaker devices had a problem where they did constant recording due to some fabric they put on top...
-
xmrscott[m]
Ah yes, I remember that
-
xmrscott[m]
The only smart listening/speaker I would consider putting in my house would be the Mycroft MK2/MK3 whenever they ship
-
xmrscott[m]
-
kayabaNerve
xmrscott[m]: I have no confidence those will ever ship
-
xmrscott[m]
kayabaNerve: I mean it's certainly been in dev hell for the last 3 years or so. They seem to have direction again though given last month's update of receiving the 1st gen of protoboards for the current design
-
xmrscott[m]
Maybe MKII will ship in a year, hopefully
-
kayabaNerve
I may be sour because of my preorder :P
-
kayabaNerve
BTC was 18k when I ordered it
-
xmrscott[m]
I totally understand :)
-
xmrscott[m]
I was more interested in the MKIII, and given the MKII looked liked it would reach it's funding goal, I figured I'd wait for the MKIII
-
xmrscott[m]
Technically experimenting with MycroftAI though by means of Plasma Bigscreen
-
xmrscott[m]
Very much would like the Mycroft MKII to ship though so I can actually recommend the dang thing to people who have Alexa/Siri in their home
