so diego.com is available for purchase. It costs $300,000.
-
rehrar
Would somebody like to chip in and help?
-
fluffypony
I can send you testnet Tari
-
needmoney90
Rehrar I just looked through my couch cushions and found you $1.38

needmoney90
Good luck

dEBRUYNE
sethsimmons: Have you played around with the Haven stablecoin yourself?
-
dEBRUYNE
Afaik you need to burn Haven in order to get xUSD right?
-
sethsimmons
Yeah, I've been involved since they launched the testnet, and participated heavily in the stagenet
-
sethsimmons
Have been running a node for a while as well
-
sethsimmons
It's... pretty amazing, honestly, and I'd love to see something similar built on Monero
-
sethsimmons
I doubt the burn/redeem mechanism would fly around here, though
-
sethsimmons
But an overcollateralized version with liquidations would be interesting, or something entirely novel
-
sethsimmons
I was concerned at first why they chose to build on Haven instead of just on Monero, until I realized their implementation would never fly on Monero.
-
sethsimmons
The biggest pitfall is the requirements of oracles, of course, and will be the pushback they get from practically everyone.
-
sethsimmons
The implementation appears sound, but it still relies on Chainlink oracles for all pricing data, which is then embedded in blocks, and lockouts occur on conversions to help avoid gaming the system.
-
sethsimmons
Sorry for the novel, dEBRUYNE 😅
-
sarang
I thought they were using CLSAG for conversions now
-
sethsimmons
They are IIRC, but it's via a burn/redeem model
-
sethsimmons
You have to burn XHV to mint xUSD, and vice versa
-
sarang
In what method?
-
sethsimmons
Can you elaborate? Not sure what you mean :)
-
sarang
How do you burn the XHV in their transaction model?
-
sarang
Is it using a known amount?
-
sethsimmons
You burn XHV proportional to the xUSD amount you want to mix, and pricing is pulled from recent blocks
-
dEBRUYNE
I think it uses an oracle to gauge price
-
sethsimmons
That pricing is provided by Chainlink oracles, and embedded in blocks by miners/validated by nodes
-
dEBRUYNE
<sethsimmons> I doubt the burn/redeem mechanism would fly around here, though <= Why wouldn't it?
-
sethsimmons
It means that the XMR supply would float and be unpredictable
-
sarang
Ok then it's using the CLSAG method I understood them to be using
-
dEBRUYNE
Well it would float insofar as it would be possible to decline
-
dEBRUYNE
There is still an upper bound as far as I can see
-
dEBRUYNE
One cannot create xUSD out of thin air
-
sethsimmons
Yes, there would always be an upper bound proportional to the USD price of XMR
-
sethsimmons
That's the max liquidity available for conversion
-
dEBRUYNE
How do they measure the amount of xUSD outstanding by the way if amounts are encrypted?
-
sethsimmons
Thats a question I've asked before, but can't remember ATM
-
sethsimmons
Let me find the response
-
sethsimmons
"Yes that’s correct. Transactions have been extended to include amount_minted/burnt in plaintext while the commitments are still used to validate. It was felt this visibility of supply was more important as a measure of ecosystem health than the loss in privacy it necessitates."
-
sethsimmons
My biggest concern (beyond oracles) is the potential leakage around minting
-
sethsimmons
But I understand their design decision overall.
-
gingeropolous
so, do we have established liaisons with major exchanges, or do we just send floods of emails when updates are a coming?
-
dEBRUYNE
Bit of both afaik
-
sgp_
mostly flood of emails tbh
-
xmrscott[m]
Yeah, technically there is a mailing list for these kinds of announcements, but I don't know how many services/exchanges are subscribed to it
-
sarang
Has it been used reliably for recent upgrades?
-
sarang
(I should probably subscribe...)

18:00 <sarang> Has it been used reliably for recent upgrades? <-- yes
-

also you should be able to see the archive
-
kinghat[m]
why does telegram auto download files and photos by default from every chat you are in?
-
kinghat[m]
isnt that a fairly large security risk?
-
jwinterm
I mean, it's basically a giant vehicle to push scams, so...
-
kinghat[m]
i mean if it wasnt, wouldnt that be a security risk?
-
jwinterm
probably I guess
-
xmrscott[m]
Narrator: It is
-
xmrscott[m]
You can at least turn it off
-
xmrscott[m]
Not that that's much comfort
