jwinterm I did not disappear, I just don't want to police if not necessary.
-
binaryFate
necessary = freenode taking issues
-

needmonero90: do you want to make the announcement in r/monero and r/moneromining today?
-
jwinterm
binaryFate, I just meant in terms of you basically never participate in that channel as far as I remember except to drop in and chastise people a week or two ago
-
jwinterm
none of the mods in that channel really participate at all, besides needmoney a bit maybe
-
jwinterm
cornfeedhobo used to but he's been not around much for year(s)?
-
needmonero90
sgp_: CSS and stuff need to be in place before that happens.
-
needmonero90
I've pinged M5M400 but he is afk it seems
-
jwinterm
I think it's kind of strange and untenable situation to have a communications channel moderated completely by people that do not generally make use of said channel
-
jwinterm
but here we are
-
sgp_
that's why I'm not volunteering for -pools
-
needmonero90
Moderating markets means kicking regulars, and they get pissy :/
-
sgp_
happy to moderate here, but I just don't care enough about the day-to-day mining
-
needmonero90
I've kind of left in exasperation
-
needmonero90
I deal with things when they get bad, but I leave them alone until that point usually.

<xmrhaelan> Anyone have anything else to say about this?
repo.getmonero.org/monero-project/ccs-proposals/merge_requests/115 ErCiccione Rehrar gingeropolous
-
rehrar
My last question didn't get answered so there's that.
-
xmrmatterbridge
<xmrhaelan> Rehrar this bit? “What would these costs look like? Was it your first iteration of this proposal or more than that even?”
-
rehrar
Ye
-
rehrar
I'm fine with the idea of starting this three month proposal to see their work, and if we like it and they like us to transition into it being a Monero Project. They said they were open to it.
-
xmrmatterbridge
<xmrhaelan> I thought it was addressed in a round about way from other comments, but rdymac could probably answer it directly.
-
selsta
Did they look into other funding?
-
selsta
Will we see a 150XMR proposal every 3 months now? my question :)
-
selsta
I think one proposal would be okay but 150XMR every few months is a lot for something that isn’t monero specific
-
xmrmatterbridge
<xmrhaelan> Monero Outreach is willing to help them campaign for other funding by leveraging Monero’s support, but Rehrar does have a point... it would sure be great to see this become a focused Monero project
-
selsta
I don’t think putting the project under the Monero project umbrella is a good idea.
-
xmrmatterbridge
<xmrhaelan> Why
-
selsta
Would they go under the Monero project umbrella without Monero CCS funding? If the answer is no, we should not do it.
-
selsta
We shouldn’t "buy" projects like this.
-
xmrmatterbridge
<xmrhaelan> This could be a huge demonstration of the utility of Monero, particularly if they are able to incentivize LochaMesh nodes with our new RPC-Pay feature
-
ErCiccione[m]
xmrhaelan: sorry, i only gave a quick look to their response because i have really limited time lately. I appreciated the detailed response, but i simply didn't look into the answer thoroughly enough to answer back
-
ajs[m]
seems like it will become a development money pit if there are no specific outcomes other than documentation
-
xmrmatterbridge
<xmrhaelan> Ok thanks erciccione
-
ErCiccione[m]
ajs: that was one of my concerns as well
-
selsta
The milestones don’t seem Monero related at all. I think a one off donation to the project would be something we could do but I’m against funding this monthly.
-
selsta
We often struggle to fund Monero related proposals, this will put strain on the CCS.
-
rdymac
ajs[m]: there will be other outcomes, e.g. an alpha version of the firmwares and needed software that are needed in order to be able to develop the future roadmap that includes the XMR tx broadcast, block sync over the Locha Mesh, and the RPC-Pay feature which in the future could mean that Monero node operators would be able to mine with people's CPUs that won't even be connected to an Internet connection
-
rdymac
thank you for your latest comment, rehrar, sorry that it was in a thread and missed it. I'll answer it
-
needmonero90
Ajs I expressed the same sentiment. We generally should seek to fund coordinators that act as a buffer for people to interact with, not development teams
-
needmonero90
Someone who has an expectation of availability
-
needmonero90
If they can't get devs to interact with that person without paying the devs, it's a non starter.
-
rehrar
rdymac: oh cool, you're here.
-
needmonero90
We want to build communities that are self sustaining, not mercenary Dev teams that will leave the second funding dries up
-
needmonero90
That's just silly
-
needmonero90
And if the response is 'we won't leave when funding dries up' why do you need funding in the first place? Past a coordinator/buffer of course.
-
selsta
+1 needmonero90
-
rdymac
needmonero90, not sure I understand anything of what you've said in these comments. I'll read again later when I have addressed Diego's questions in the CCS proposal
-
sgp_
rdymac: I want to express that your patience as you answer these questions is admirable. Thanks for not immediately running away
-

xmrmatterbridge
<xmrhaelan> Sgp agreed. He’s doing great against tough critics.
-
rdymac
"... Dev teams that will leave the second funding dries up" - We are not going anywhere, we are developing a standard for anyone to be able to communicate and pay freely, privately and anonymously. We are creating the hardware, defining its alternative from off-the-shelf parts, and guides to repurpose existing hardware for disaster-hit and Communism-hit countries. We've been working on this for years now, and I
-
rdymac
myself started with Bitcoin and BitcoinVenezuela.com (a non-profit sustained by myself and donations) in early 2012. What we are asking here is support from other communities who would also like to be able to pay others securely and anonymously in a safe and censorship-resistant way.
-
rdymac
"And if the response is 'we won't leave when funding dries up' why do you need funding in the first place?" - Well, we need funding because developers need to eat, and some of them have families. If we wouldn't need to eat & those things, I'm completely sure all of us would love to make the creation of liberating tools for people to be able to communicate & pay each other with complete freedom our full-time duty
-
rdymac
Don't take anything I said above as me being mad, I just like to make thinks clear.
-
sgp_
fwiw I would like to make a decision on this proposal by this Saturday's meeting. I would like to have most of the questions asked and answered before then so that we can focus on making a determination
-
sgp_
otherwise this is going to keep getting drawn out
