I'm having a handfull of issues with the new GUI release, guess I'm trying to see if they're known issues or just me. When starting the GUI I am told that the daemon didn't start, but then it gets started and connected. Second is that I'm currently I'm sitting here looking at an open wallet with 1837 wallet blocks remaining. That number is not

moving, hasn't moved for several minutes, even though the daemon says it's synchronized. Another thing I'm noticing is that it takes an unusually long amount of time to close a wallet, over 20 seconds

closing the wallet where the wallet blocks weren't scanning and re-opening it seems to have resolved the issue -- it finished scanning in like 2 seconds

sure. GUI is working and connected to the daemon rn though. it's like... it takes longer than the GUI expects it to, or something

We have had more reports with daemon starting issues this release, we will try to reproduce and fix it.

Also can you try restarting your computer and trying again?

sure I'll be back in a minute. one more thing to mention before I go: I have log level set to 4 in the GUI but the daemon log isn't printing to the GUI

if I type 'status' then it gives me info, though

log is usually printed to the console and monero-wallet-gui.log

it's not supposed to show the log here?

I mean I know where the log file is located so it's not a huge deal.... it just looks like it's supposed to be displayed there in the GUI

currently waiting for Daemon to start. I will go ahead and say that earlier this morning when I was having the issue it was right after a fresh reboot.

now it says it's connected and the daemon is sync'd

without me restarting the GUI or doing anything. sure, can you remind me where the GUI log is in Windows? AppData?

actually this is really weird I don't see monerod.exe in the task manager even though the GUI says it's connected to the daemon

sent a PR increasing daemon start timeout to 120s

lyza: it seems it takes ~90 seconds to start a daemon on your machine while GUI has a timeout of 60 seconds

xiphon that was my conclusion as well. is it known why the daemon is now taking longer to start up, though?

If I'm long on a position for 1xmr, then in theory, the exchange has 1xmr in reserves

With derivatives there is no Monero involved

You deposit btc, someone else deposits btc, and you both make a bet (using btc as backing) about the future price of Monero

No Monero was ever involved in that trade and if the price spikes suddenly, the person who bet the wrong way can experience >100% losses

No other system, even leveraged trading, allows the system to enter a state of fractional reserve

If the community is going to make a decision on whether trading derivatives is 'trading monero', sooner is way better than later.

I'm honestly leaning towards no, and that derivatives shouldn't be on our list of pairs/exchanges. But I expect the community would be pissed at me if I took a hard line stance.
