03:58:37 Revuo Issue 36 - http://revuo-monero.com/issue-36.html 14:54:56 I'm having a handfull of issues with the new GUI release, guess I'm trying to see if they're known issues or just me. When starting the GUI I am told that the daemon didn't start, but then it gets started and connected. Second is that I'm currently I'm sitting here looking at an open wallet with 1837 wallet blocks remaining. That number is not 14:54:57 moving, hasn't moved for several minutes, even though the daemon says it's synchronized. Another thing I'm noticing is that it takes an unusually long amount of time to close a wallet, over 20 seconds 14:58:23 closing the wallet where the wallet blocks weren't scanning and re-opening it seems to have resolved the issue -- it finished scanning in like 2 seconds 15:09:11 lyza: Are you using simple modeb 15:09:13 ?* 15:09:41 no, it's in advanced mode 15:10:05 simple mode would be a remote daemon, yeah? I've got monerod running on my PC 15:10:14 ok, can you try starting monerod manually before opening thr GUI? 15:10:18 the* 15:10:37 some users seem to have problems with the daemon not starting automatically 15:10:56 sure. GUI is working and connected to the daemon rn though. it's like... it takes longer than the GUI expects it to, or something 15:17:03 We have had more reports with daemon starting issues this release, we will try to reproduce and fix it. 15:17:23 Also can you try restarting your computer and trying again? 15:18:35 sure I'll be back in a minute. one more thing to mention before I go: I have log level set to 4 in the GUI but the daemon log isn't printing to the GUI 15:19:02 if I type 'status' then it gives me info, though 15:19:29 log is usually printed to the console and monero-wallet-gui.log 15:20:25 Uploaded file: https://uploads.kiwiirc.com/files/6fa1a7b4e71de4159f2b3e914891c82d/image.png 15:20:37 it's not supposed to show the log here? 15:21:13 I mean I know where the log file is located so it's not a huge deal.... it just looks like it's supposed to be displayed there in the GUI 15:23:24 ok brb then 15:27:33 does restarting help with your daemon issue? 15:29:11 currently waiting for Daemon to start. I will go ahead and say that earlier this morning when I was having the issue it was right after a fresh reboot. 15:29:30 just got 'daemon failed to start' error 15:29:34 :/ 15:29:45 ok seems to be a bug then 15:29:57 can you PM me the monero-wallet-gui.log? 15:30:43 now it says it's connected and the daemon is sync'd 15:31:22 without me restarting the GUI or doing anything. sure, can you remind me where the GUI log is in Windows? AppData? 15:32:17 actually this is really weird I don't see monerod.exe in the task manager even though the GUI says it's connected to the daemon 15:34:12 AppData Roaming monero-wallet-gui 17:11:56 got a millionaire idea for anyone up to the quest. 17:11:58 stickermule is running a promotion on stickers. 17:12:00 https://www.stickermule.com/deals 17:12:02 possible designs to place your order with - https://a.uguu.se/SDQDlUjQ6KUM_xmr_sticker.png 17:12:05 https://a.uguu.se/VVGb4vLhacIA_dont.png 17:12:07 stickers stickers stickers. 18:33:03 lyza: Do you have a bootstrap node specified on the settings page? 18:36:03 dEBRUYNE that setting is blank 18:36:53 dEBRUYNE: lyza: monerod take too long to start 18:37:11 sent a PR increasing daemon start timeout to 120s 18:37:46 lyza: it seems it takes ~90 seconds to start a daemon on your machine while GUI has a timeout of 60 seconds 18:38:39 xiphon that was my conclusion as well. is it known why the daemon is now taking longer to start up, though? 18:39:17 nope, didn't investigate this 21:06:27 So, how is everybody's Friday going?! Apologies if you are already into Saturday. 21:09:32 More involved than most Fridays. You can't smoke coffee. 22:09:14 * needmonero90 is probably joking. Probably. 22:11:00 Just nicotine and CBD. 22:11:03 no caffeine 22:11:13 yet caffeine and nicotine sounds like a better match for working 22:11:35 so if anyone does have coffee flavored caffeine vapor juice, do say 22:21:07 for the CCS this is the first page you come to https://ccs.getmonero.org/funding-required/ and shows no donations have been made and when you select it it also shows zero donations https://ccs.getmonero.org/proposals/surae-q4-funding-2019.html but when you select contribute it shows the donations already made https://ccs.getmonero.org/projects/30/donate 22:21:42 Same on 2 different machines each using a different browser 22:22:00 rehrar ^^^ needmonero90 22:22:16 I know this is not your domain needmonero90 22:22:33 but where is Mr rehrar 22:22:37 This is not my-- oh 22:22:40 You said that 22:22:49 * needmonero90 doesn't know why he's getting pinged for website stuff 22:23:03 where in the world is diego 22:23:24 cause I know you are around 22:25:01 He sent a message on telegram like 20m ago 22:25:21 you see that's why 22:25:28 you are all knowing 22:26:00 I just chewed him out 22:26:27 * needmonero90 waits for Rehrar the lazy to appear 22:26:29 Hmmm...did mattermost just reconnect or something? 22:26:41 Excuses 22:27:15 Oh wait. It just synced everything. Let me go through backlog. 22:27:33 nioc yes the CCS is having a few issues. 22:27:56 It was moved to a new server as a precaution after the website hack. 22:28:10 Pigeons and I are going to try to get it working at 100% this evening. 22:28:19 ok thx 22:28:32 wasn't sure if you were aware 22:29:00 Yeah. If there is what is the alias 23:24:48 https://www.reddit.com/r/xmrtrader/comments/e3bxdp/daily_discussion_friday_november_29th/f93vnwz 23:24:49 [REDDIT] [Daily Discussion] Friday, November 29th (self.xmrtrader) | 8 points (100.0%) | 13 comments | Posted by AutoModerator | Created at 2019-11-29 - 08:12:18 23:24:53 Thoughts? :) 23:27:29 I would imagine the vast majority of products/contracts on exchanges don't touch the chain. 23:27:49 So in a way the whole game is 'synthetic' 23:28:31 Maybe i am missing the point though 23:34:06 I added an addition midipoet 23:34:18 The difference here is reserves 23:34:37 If I'm long on a position for 1xmr, then in theory, the exchange has 1xmr in reserves 23:34:47 With derivatives there is no Monero involved 23:35:12 You deposit btc, someone else deposits btc, and you both make a bet (using btc as backing) about the future price of Monero 23:35:44 No Monero was ever involved in that trade and if the price spikes suddenly, the person who bet the wrong way can experience >100% losses 23:36:06 No other system, even leveraged trading, allows the system to enter a state of fractional reserve 23:36:08 Derivatives do 23:38:17 If the community is going to make a decision on whether trading derivatives is 'trading monero', sooner is way better than later. 23:39:22 I'm honestly leaning towards no, and that derivatives shouldn't be on our list of pairs/exchanges. But I expect the community would be pissed at me if I took a hard line stance. 23:39:38 This is kind of a big decision lol 23:41:45 I am stuck thinking about the implications of fractional gambling 23:43:46 It's not the implications that bother me, as much as the fact that literally no Monero ever changes hands, it's not trading monero 23:44:13 There are no Monero stored, no Monero transferred, it's just btc or fiat changing hands 23:44:32 I mean. The implications bother me for sure. 23:44:46 But that will lead into conspiracy theory territory, which is why I'm avoiding it 23:45:02 That's a different discussion lol 23:45:32 (that is, futures being used to depress the price of assets by shorting endless paper into the books) 23:46:39 Like. If someone made an eth contract that let you trade derivative Monero, but you only use eth and the eth chain, would that be allowed? 23:46:51 How about derivatives denominated in (shitcoin of the day)? 23:47:25 At some point I think the line needs to be drawn, and my gut is telling me 'you need to be trading actual Monero somewhere' is that line 23:47:31 But the conversation needs to be had 23:47:52 I would wait for the atomic swap schnizle 23:48:05 Exchanges are advertising Monero derivatives. 23:48:08 Today, even. 23:48:15 Which is why I'm bringing this up 23:48:26 Yeah, I saw it earlier 23:48:38 Waiting for atomic swaps is too late, the conversation needs to be had now
