You do need a copy, but if you just open your wallet it will automatically download it

Your wallet downloading it itself from peers is likely going to be quicker because you're downloading from 8 different peers rather than just the getmonero server

It's the daemon that should automatically run within 10 seconds or so of opening your wallet
