Random Q, people seriously interested in making one of these a FOSS center or something even though a lot of us in the Americas are pretty spread out? Potenially missed out on this one sadly which is next door to me, but there may be others down the road:

sgp_: how would you like me to set up chanserv?
-
needmonero90
Like, add a message to the topic saying it's logged?
-
sgp_
needmonero90: yeah, probably that and some other info. Maybe you, me, and Diego can talk about what to include in the message
-

Ok

Posted the Emergency PostMort log in the issue. Will figure out the website meeting log PR process at a later date unless someone beats me:

Sidenote: Whoever manages the bridge for Discord could you bridge #monero-mrl as well? I'd potentially like to try my hand at helping better maintain the logs on the site
-
ErCiccione[m]
xmrscott: just please remember to PR it, that's a log important to have :)
-

the structure is simple, just take a look at the other blog posts in _posts

xmrscott[m]: the old nuclear bunkers are pretty neat. there was one for sale in Ireland(N) a while back as well. they aren't cheap though. A FOSS centre is a nice idea. I see them as potentially being like a "seed vault" as a fail safe against societal shit hitting the fan

do I need to import blockchain to start using wallet?
-
xmrscott[m]
qwaszxd: No
-
xmrscott[m]
You do need a copy, but if you just open your wallet it will automatically download it
-
xmrscott[m]
Your wallet downloading it itself from peers is likely going to be quicker because you're downloading from 8 different peers rather than just the getmonero server
-

do I need to run monerod ?
-
qwaszxd
there is mention of monerod on wallet how-to page
-
xmrscott[m]
qwaszxd: Monerod is part of the wallet
-
xmrscott[m]
It's the daemon that should automatically run within 10 seconds or so of opening your wallet
-
qwaszxd
xmrscott[m]: does monerod require blockchain?
-
qwaszxd
blockchain.raw
-
xmrscott[m]
qwaszxd: monerod (Monero Daemon) will automatically download the blockchain
-
xmrscott[m]
No need to download and import the .raw
-
qwaszxd
xmrscott[m]: he will download 55 Gb?
-
xmrscott[m]
qwaszxd: Yes, the daemon will download the entire blockchain
-
qwaszxd
xmrscott[m]: I already have blockchain.raw file. is there is way to use wallet without spending a lot of time time on import?
-
xmrscott[m]
qwaszxd: If you don't want to deal with importing, you can search on Google or StartPage something like 'remote node Monero'
-
xmrscott[m]
Instead of running a node with a full copy of the blockchain, you look at someone else's copy
-
qwaszxd
xmrscott[m]: is if safe?
-
xmrscott[m]
I believe when you open the GUI, there should be a guide to using a remote node
-
asymptotically
there's a guide at
moneroworld.com i think
-
qwaszxd
i currently read monero-wallet-cli user guide on getmonero.org
-
xmrscott[m]
-
xmrscott[m]
qwaszxd: GUI will also I believe ask you if you want to import blockchain when you first open it
-
xmrscott[m]
So I think it should be easy to import the blockchain with your download
-
xmrscott[m]
*with your blockchain.raw that you already downloaded
-
qwaszxd
I run import with "--resume 1" arg. why import programe does not resume process at previous position?
-
xmrscott[m]
Unfortunately I don't really use the CLI so I can't help you easily with the CLI. You may also want to try asking in #monero for help
-
qwaszxd
I think I will never complete the import.
