Pool and solo get you a simialr expectation, long term. Pool mining will get you tiny bits regularly, solo will get you a whole block very rarely.

For pools, you get an extra pool fee and the counterparty risk.

If you solo mine, you can use a pool miner to the daemon too, it's faster.

So solo == lottery, pool == wage slavery.

If your hash rate is N hashes/second, you can expect to get N * 720 / 2.5e6 monero per day, averaged over the long term.

(applies to both solo and pool mining)

Pools will just decrease the variance a lot.
