is there any amd epyc server in the market that could be bought for mining xmr?
-
swrangsar
or is amd ryzen 3900x a better choice?
-
gingeropolous
swrangsar, there are a lot
-
gingeropolous
of epyc servers that could be bought for mining xmr
-
gingeropolous
i personally think going the server route is better because these devices were meant to be on 24/7 at higher loads than home-grade stuff
-
swrangsar
any good manufacturer name hp or dell etc.?
-
gingeropolous
but some ppl like the enthusiast PC level 3900x etc.
-
gingeropolous
yeah, they are all pretty good. I haven't really had different makes to tell the difference though.
-
gingeropolous
but HP, dell, supermicro, they've all been around forever
-
gingeropolous
it just depends on what your going for. some servers come better built to have 9000 drives in them. some are more just CPU and ram designed
-
gingeropolous
another benefit is the organization. servers are designed to be put in racks. home PCs, you end up with towers just stacked on each other or whatever
-
gingeropolous
but yeah, checkout #monero-pools, lotta mining tlak there
-
gingeropolous
some more colorful language as well, so beware :)

don't really understand what these 1u, 2u, etc. stand for
-

its some convention. I think of 1u as 1 unit. it takes up 1 rack unit.

2u takes up 2

Cryptocurrency Checkout seems to be the best I've found so far but I don't know how well it would work for a checkout. They have guides located at
cryptocurrencycheckout.com/guides so you can scroll through and see if they integrate with anything you may be planning to use.
-
kijari[m]
I know it supports "BigCommerce" stores but that's about all I know. It's been a while since I last looked into them.
-
ishikawa[m]
I will check it out no pun intended ahahah
-
ishikawa[m]
I have seen alot of crypto woocommerce integration on some sites but i dont really want to use wordpress
-
kijari[m]
Seems like at the bottom of their guides section they have a way to integrate into your site without hooking to any other website/checkout service.
-
kijari[m]
May be worth checking
cryptocurrencycheckout.com/faq as well before you make any decisions. I quite like that there are no fees involved, the coins go straight to your wallet with no middleman and there's no KYC on the site either but it's up to you whether or not you believe in their business model as they explain it in the FAQ section.
-
-
ishikawa[m]
It does look good so far.
-
ishikawa[m]
I cant seem to see monero as payment in this pic though
-

They have a coin voting process where four coins are brought into the poll, people vote for which they would like to be added, it gets added to the list, and then another voting round begins.

You can go to
cryptocurrencycheckout.com/get_listed and request Monero to be added in the future. In the meantime other services may provide something better.
-
kijari[m]
Especially if you want to use Monero given that it currently isn't listed.
-
ishikawa[m]
-
ishikawa[m]
Found this also
-
kijari[m]
I came across that one rather early as well. It's quite good but know that they require KYC to use the service. That ultimately was the reason I ignored the service since I was after a donation system that didn't require a middleman or KYC.
-
kijari[m]
If you're owning an online store though then KYC is probably not a problem.
-
ishikawa[m]
Yeah i just saw this now that they have some hefty KYC/AML requirements
-
ishikawa[m]
Not generally a fan of that
-
kijari[m]
Well, KYC is generally considered as normal for services that are largely used by businesses because businesses are typically legally registered and as such must follow all regulations currently in place.
-
ishikawa[m]
Yes your right in that regard.
-
ishikawa[m]
From a business standpoint that makes sense i guess.
-
kijari[m]
It's unfortunate but it's in place primarily to stop money laundering and all of that. I mean, it clearly doesn't work given that people still get away with it but still.
-
ishikawa[m]
Yeah KYC/AML sucks ass clearly.
-
ishikawa[m]
Its pointless.

Not to my knowledge. Most services that I'd consider private as ones like the one I linked above. Online and virtual. Not sure if I'm behind in the times but I don't even trust phones so I don't have a SIM to call, text, or use data. I just use Signal if necessary at home (There's only 3 people on Signal I talk to because they refuse to use a decentralized encrypted application) and other messaging applications at home.
-
kijari[m]
Then again I am probably the complete minority because I know phones basically run society at this point.
-

-
ishikawa[m]
Apart from a few select people
-
kijari[m]
With a sim card that already has calling and texting, yeah. Without calling and texting, unlikely. It's usually a bundle deal. Perhaps you can try one of those "streamer packs" that are just backpacks that give you a lot of data but they are probably a lot more expensive than a SIM card.

-
sech1
killswitches?
-
ishikawa[m]

-
kijari[m]
@sech1 PinePhones have killswitches if you remove the back casing. Basically you can completely cut off the physical circuit to cell towers, your cameras, bluetooth, etc. for battery saving or privacy purposes. Just flip the switch, reboot and it's done.
-
ishikawa[m]
<sech1 "killswitches?"> Generally more secure than turning it off from the OS

-

-
ishikawa[m]
oh damn aahhahaha
-
ishikawa[m]
Whats this script you talk of?
-
kijari[m]
My gambling script blew up in my face earlier today and lost me 300 TRX. It has a 0.00051516763040% of doing that and it somehow managed to do so within 4 hours.
-
kijari[m]
I'm so mad that such an unlikely event actually happened.
-
ishikawa[m]
You got lucky.... kinda ahahah
-
ishikawa[m]
What did you program the script in?
-
kijari[m]
The gambling script isn't too fancy. It basically just sets a bet on dice game with a 44% chance to win. On a loss, increase the amount I'm betting. I added in some parameters so that the odds change based on winning and losing as well so it's more profitable and lower risk. Made it in Python because I can't be asked to do that in anything else.
-
ishikawa[m]
Very nice! cool project, I want to make something similar to get my coding skills up.
-
ishikawa[m]
Im learning python at the moment
-
ishikawa[m]
Do you run it then play the game or does it run in your browser?
-
kijari[m]
I'm learning Zig but wrote the script in Python because writing a script like that in a C-like language is a huge hassle.
-
kijari[m]
<ishikawa[m] "Do you run it then play the game"> I did it in the laziest way I knew how. Screenshot the window, grab the color of the most recent bet and color match it, if it's red execute x code, if it's green execute y code.
-
kijari[m]
Then just repeat the above.
-
kijari[m]
Oh, and mouse click on a set x,y coordinate on my screen which is associated with different actions. Increasing or decreasing win chance, changing bet amounts, etc.
-
ishikawa[m]
That's actually a good way to do it.
-
ishikawa[m]
No need to over complicate things i guess.
-
kijari[m]
If you enjoy learning obscure tech, I strongly recommend Zig. It's a non-profit foundation that works on Zig, the programming language, and Zig itself was quite literally developed by someone that said C was too complicated and started ripping features out that made no sense. The end result? A language that is 100% compatible with C with a simpler syntax and far easier learning curve. It's basically a rust equivalent but
-
kijari[m]
for C developers/coders since Rust is mainly for C++ developers.
-
kijari[m]
Maybe there's a better way to think of it but basically Zig is to C what Rust is to C++.

need to do some syncing first

moneromooo
Do the two machines have the same endianness ?
-
johnkmus[m]
I believe so, transferring from Ubuntu to Rasberry pi OS. Gonna try it again and see if it was just a fluke and report back
-
moneromooo
Are the two files the same (hash them) /
-
johnnycash
best way to buy monero with cash?
-
cardboardoranges
if you mean physical cash, then localmonero
-
cardboardoranges
if fiat, then it depends where you are, but likely Kraken
-
johnkmus[m]
well i md5 hashed them and they were the same, but it still didnt want to start the node. log just says "Error: couldn't connect to daemon" Checked and they were both little endian systems. I guess ill just use the Pi to sync, not a huge deal bc i have other nodes. I dont really have a ton of time to devote to figuring this out but thank you for the help anyway!

selsta
what is the daemon error message? ./monerod

just that message + LAN IP in the log. its headless so I cant see monerod running if thats what you mean. but its fine ill just sync with thoe pi itself, im honestly interested in seeing how long it takes by itself
-
selsta
yea you have to start it directly to get the error, or look into .bitmonero log

so i am synced now @ selsta - when I try to do a transaction aka send something the send button is just greyed out and a warning is there: "this is a view only wallet blabla"
-
tasse
where should i find the possibility to save the transaction? am I blind? is this hidden is some other menu somewhere maybe?
-
selsta
according to the code it should be possible after you click on the send button
-
tasse
hm well its not clickable
-
tasse
there is however one button right next to "Address" (a little monitor) that appears to do nothing
-
tasse
do you have the code open? could you link it? maybe I am missing some precondition or something
-
tasse
and just to be clear that I am not doing sth completely wrong: 1. i create a transaction on my view wallet 2. I sign this on my air gapped machine 3. I load it into the view wallet (somehow) and broadcast it
-
selsta
-
tasse
thank you
-
selsta
but yep it is not possible to send if it is a view only button
-
tasse
(I was also suspecting 'i3' to be a problem but I tried it on xfce as well)
-
selsta
view only wallet*
-
selsta
-
selsta
sendButtonWarningBox is filled with view only text so button is disabled
-
tasse
also regarding this code: why is the sending not in an else? is this even functioning? is nobody using it this way oO?
-
selsta
not sure what you mean with "else"
-
selsta
it most likely got broken in some update
-
tasse
well i mean there is the "if (viewOnly) { .. }" and afterwards "currentWallet.commitTransactionAsync(transaction);" seems to be just called
-
selsta
looks correct to me
-
selsta
only issue is send button being disabled in view only wallet
-
tasse
ah you are right. I missed the part in line 1552
-
selsta
opened an issue for it
-
tasse
maybe its due to
monero-project/monero-gui a0a9d9e ? idk, not familiar with the code at all. I will file a bug tomorrow - thanks for your help so far :)
-
tasse
ok, awesome!
-
tasse
out of curiousity (as it can't be many people using it like this or everybody is just holding): how are you managing your xmr? hw wallet?
