hello

sethsimmons
Hi there!
-
xmrmatterbridge
<kirbyxmr> anybody know if any rescan commands would help fix this error when sending transactions out?
-
xmrmatterbridge
<kirbyxmr>

for wallet errors like double spend I use rescan_bc in the CLI wallet

<ChunkyPuffs> Crypto-to-crypto transactions are taxable in the UK.

<ChunkyPuffs> What the absolute fuck is this.

jarkko
Just out of curiosity: why node sync gets slower during the initial sync? I mean it goes really fast up to ~60% and after that it crawls. I've witnessed this many times.
-
azy
more transactions
-
selsta
jarkko: also introduction of ringct made verification slower
-
jarkko
okay makes sense, thanks

According to minestat
-
ser
i do not clearly understand. i created a stagenet wallet and trying to top it up with stagenet faucet,
community.xmr.to/faucet/stagenet
-
ser
when i ask for transfer to main address starting with 5 tranfer arrives
-
ser
but when i create a new address, starting with 7, transfer is initiated but i never receive it
-
ser
it magically disappeares
-
dEBRUYNE
Are you using the CLI?
-
ser
yes
-
dEBRUYNE
Can you type set in monero-wallet-cli and check what the restore / refresh height value is?
-
ser
i set manually refresh-from-block-height = 0
-
dEBRUYNE
Can you set it to 987654?
-
dEBRUYNE
A wallet refresh should occur thereafter
-
ser
now it complains back: The wallet's refresh-from-block-height setting is higher than the daemon's height: this may mean your wallet will skip over transactions
-
ser
ah, i forgot to mention i am using my own daemon, is it possible something is wrong with the daemon itself?
-
ser
after setting to 987654 the balance still does not cover transfers to created eralier addresses
-
ser
which are visible when i issue 'address all'
-
dEBRUYNE
Can you type status into monerod and post the output here?
-
ser
i cant as it is systemd serviced daemon with --non-interactive
-
ser
but i will run it manually one sec
-
ser
Height: 712883/712883 (100.0%) on stagenet, not mining, net hash 3.47 kH/s, v14, 6(out)+0(in) connections, uptime 0d 0h 0m 9s
-
ser
2020-11-20 11:40:46.464 I SYNCHRONIZED OK
-
dEBRUYNE
<dEBRUYNE> Can you set it to 987654? <= Please use 587654
-
dEBRUYNE
Conflated the stagenet height with the testnet height
-
ser
set, no changes
-
ser
Refresh done, blocks received: 0
-
ser
only one transfer from 5 listed, balance does not cover any of transfers to 7xxxx addresses
-
xmrmatterbridge
<rbrunner7> We can't be 100% sure that this faucet supports subaddresses, can we? Do you see a tx submitted to stagenet after clicking "Submit" there with a stagenet explorer?
-
ser
i can see transaction on explorer
-
xmrmatterbridge
<rbrunner7> Yeah, can confirm. Just sent 10 XMR to nirvana ...
-
xmrmatterbridge
<rbrunner7> Restored the wallet, after all. Worked for me, I received the 10 XMR.
-
xmrmatterbridge
<rbrunner7> So at least the faucet side seems unlikely as the problem.
-
midipoet
wait, we know where nirvana is?
-
moneromooo
yanmaani1: no
-
xmrmatterbridge
<rbrunner7> Midipoet: Lol. Nirvana in my case = random seed
-
xmrmatterbridge
<rbrunner7> Despite the very lukewarm reception on Reddit yesterday I dare to drop a link here as well to my new educational Monero site:
monerotech.info

xmrmatterbridge
<rbrunner7> "Learn about and play with Monero seeds and addresses"

rbrunner8: reddit is not always receptive to things :)

No tab complete on bridges... so sad.
-
xmrmatterbridge
<rbrunner7> Well, new things quite in general can have a very hard stand nowadays; the Internet is so chock-full of stuff good and bad it's hard to get eyeballs for *anything*.
-
Mochi101
yeah

Mochi101
FB wrecked the internet.

rbrunner7 you should have used the title, "gubmint doesn't want you to see this site"

A bit off topic but - I have an SD card that is encrypted and the phone that the key was on got wiped...would it be possible to hire a hacker to decrypt it or is it a lost cause?
-
dead
you're screwed my friend
-
dead
assuming this key was an actual key and not just a simple password
-
viperperidot[m]
Dammit that is what I thought...I am not sure how samsung encrypts it's phones sd cards, if it just uses your device pin or if it generates a key..
-
strike
yeah ur fucked
-
dead
you could ask the NSA to break it for you, maybe in a few hundred years depending on the bit size of the key heh
-
Ymgve
viperperidot[m]: are you sure it's encrypted at all
-
viperperidot[m]
<Ymgve "viperperidot: are you sure it's "> Yes
-
viperperidot[m]
I will ask Edward Snowden to hack it
-
kxsl
viperperidot[m], android is kind of like linux, so see if the card is encrypted with cryptsetup or dm-crypt. maybe fscrypt if it's new enough
-
kxsl
not sure what channel would be most appropriate
-
viperperidot[m]
When I reboot my phone it says 'SD card is encrypted'
-
viperperidot[m]
Also all the pictures on it when I try to view them are blank
-
viperperidot[m]
It is encrypted im pretty sure
-
dead
wait what how can it even see pictures
-
kxsl
dead, they are probably cached or indexed in a photo app
-
viperperidot[m]
All the pictures are just a grey screen with an exclamation point in the middle
-
dead
kxsl: yeah makes sense
-
kxsl
you need to get on linux and try to identify how it is encrypted before anything else
-
viperperidot[m]
Ok will do thanks
-
viperperidot[m]
Need to get an sd card reader because I dont have one first
-
strike
get a cheapo sd card -> usb adapter
-
strike
like $5
-
kxsl
viperperidot[m], there are a few android and android dev channels here. maybe someone there knows how the cards are encrypted or how to recover/decrypt them
-
viperperidot[m]
Thanks I will check that out as well
-
viperperidot[m]
Would like to recover all these pictures if I can

-
moneromooo
Your daemon might be busy syncing still.
-
moneromooo
If you run the daemon itself, it should be visible. Not sure how to tell with the GUI.
-
moneromooo
(is that the GUI ?)
-
d4rkp1r4t3
run 'netstat -nap | grep LISTEN | grep 18081' or 'ps aux | grep monero' and see if the daemon is actually running. you need it to be running before connecting/attaching to the daemon.
