-
kiwi_96
upgraded from win 64 GUI of 0.15.0.04 to current. Deamon wont start. already placed monerorod on allow list
-
kiwi_96
I'll log on again tomorrow and ask. Good night XMR team
-
selsta
kiwi_96: What happens when you manually click on monerod.exe?
-
kiwi_96
I have not tried that
-
selsta
Try that.
-
kiwi_96
synching as we speak
-
kiwi_96
It doesnt pick up on on the last BC synch which was complete this morning? Currently it is only at 1% synch
-
ndorf
must be running with a different datadir
-
kiwi_96
I am new to this so I couldnt tell you. When upgrading I selected the folder that my old BC was located in. The new upgrade wanted to place the BC on a different directory. I just made it my old folder
-
ndorf
yeah. so you actually need to run monerod.exe from a CMD window, and pass it some arguments: monerod --data-dir "\path\to\your\folder"
-
kiwi_96
-
ndorf
yeah you probably want to stop that one
-
kiwi_96
this is running right now when I clicked on monerorod.exe
-
kiwi_96
ok
-
kiwi_96
by closing it?
-
ndorf
yep
-
kiwi_96
done. The GUI is still saying "synching"
-
kiwi_96
GUI disconected to
-
ndorf
i would close that too, though maybe you don't need to
-
kiwi_96
close GUI or no?
-
ndorf
you know how to use the CMD window?
-
ndorf
i would close it
-
kiwi_96
GUI closed. I do not know how to use CMD window
-
kiwi_96
googled and have CMD window open
-
kiwi_96
C:\Users\Boanerges>
-
kiwi_96
with cursor blinking at end
-
ndorf
ok, try this command: monerod --data-dir "\path\to\your\folder"
-
ndorf
replace the path with your real blockchain location.
-
ndorf
you can copy paste it from the location bar of a folder window
-
kiwi_96
Like this: C:\Users\Boanerges>monerod --data-dir"\Users\Boanerges\Downloads\Crypt Keeper\Monero\lmdb"
-
ndorf
almost
-
selsta
path to monerod.exe
-
ndorf
remove the \lmdb from the end so it just ends in "Monero"
-
ndorf
if it says command not found, then what selsta said, yeah.
-
kiwi_96
C:\Users\Boanerges>monerod --data-dir"\Users\Boanerges\Downloads\Crypt Keeper\Monero"
-
kiwi_96
Is that good
-
ndorf
try it
-
selsta
also a space between data-dir and the patch
-
selsta
path*
-
ndorf
oops, that too
-
kiwi_96
-
ndorf
yeah, you will need the full path to monerod.exe like selsta said, sorry
-
kiwi_96
C:\Users\Boanerges>monerod --data-dir "\Program Files\Monero GUI Wallet"
-
kiwi_96
So like this
-
ndorf
nono
-
ndorf
more like "\Program Files\Monero GUI Wallet\monerod.exe" --data-dir "\"\Users\Boanerges\Downloads\CryptKeeper\Monero"
-
kiwi_96
-
ndorf
sorry, typo on my part
-
ndorf
get rid of the \" before "Users
-
ndorf
you can press Up on your keyboard, to edit the same command again
-
ndorf
without retyping it
-
selsta
"\Program Files\Monero GUI Wallet\monerod.exe" --data-dir "\Users\Boanerges\Downloads\CryptKeeper\Monero"
-
selsta
this should be it
-
kiwi_96
synch started
-
ndorf
hopefully it will now show the percentage you expect
-
kiwi_96
)%
-
kiwi_96
0%
-
kiwi_96
1%
-
ndorf
hmm, you're sure Downloads\CryptKeeper\Monero is where your existing blockchain was?
-
ndorf
when you right click on the lmdb folder therein and press properties, what is the total size?
-
kiwi_96
Thats what I thought. It was a big ass file
-
kiwi_96
87.5gb
-
kiwi_96
-
selsta
The difference is the space
-
selsta
"\Program Files\Monero GUI Wallet\monerod.exe" --data-dir "\Users\Boanerges\Downloads\Crypt Keeper\Monero"
-
selsta
try that
-
ndorf
nice catch
-
kiwi_96

-
kiwi_96
Understood!

promet
went to do my weekly monero chain sync which failed, downloaded 16.0.3, also fails with simply "Bus error", has something changed?
-
promet
barring the occasional version upgrade, monerod has never simply failed like this for me before.
-
asymptotically
the only time i've ever seen sigbus was when i tried replacing a library or executable while the program was running
-
promet
asymptotically, thanks, yes "is weird"
-
selsta
promet: bus error usually means corrupted blockchain
-
selsta
is it on an external drive?
-
promet
selsta, yes
-
selsta
did you plug it out during sync?
-
selsta
this could lead to corrupted blockchain
-
promet
selsta, i did not, my machine is getting a little long in the tooth though, and i have been noticing some usb bus "quirkiness" though
-
promet
maybe it could be that
-
selsta
in general having the blockchain on external drives is a bit less stable due to usb stuff, plugging out during sync etc.
-
promet
selsta, thanks very much for the feedback. I will look into this.
-
selsta
I worry you will have to resync from scratch to fix this :/ If you have enough disk space you can also make backups of the chain in case this happens again in the future.
-
promet
selsta, I do have a backup on another external drive, which will be my next troubleshooting step. thanks again.
-
takel
