In the monero GUI, is an account the same thing as a wallet?
-
selsta
leonardus: Accounts have their own balance and transaction history but are all bundled under 1 wallet seed.
-
leonardus
once I buy monero and it's in my wallet, is it still traceable to any extent or should I transfer it to a separate wallet once for added protection? would that do anything?
-
selsta
leonardus: I don’t think this is necessary.
-
artefact
churning? afaik there's no clear answer
-
artefact
might be worth it if you're concerned about eae/eabe attacks
-
leonardus
artefact: I went from exchange(ltc)->changenow->my xmr wallet
-
leonardus
the exchange I used is kyc
-

Should be fine. For extra privacy/security you could churn (using CLI).
-
leonardus
dsc_: why using CLI?
-
dsc_
leonardus: official GUI doesnt have output control / churn
-
dsc_
or yes, send to yourself
-
leonardus
dsc_: how do I churn using the CLI?
-
asymptotically
sweep_all youraddress
-
leonardus
could I create a new address to do that or do I use my primary address?
-
asymptotically
you can just use your primary once, since the address doesn't show up anywhere on the blockchain
-
moneromooo
I'm uncomfortable with that kind of advice. You might be asking someone to shoot themselves in the foot.
-
asymptotically
when sending coins to yourself?
-
moneromooo
It's unclear whether it improves or makes things worse.
-
asymptotically
or just in general that it's safe to use the normal address
-
moneromooo
"sweep_all youraddress" will link all your outputs on the chain, that's a big privacy loss.
-
moneromooo
For those with more than one anyway.
-
dsc_
perhaps asy meant `sweep_single` ^_^
-
leonardus
so should I churn? or can I spend these safely?
-
dsc_
leonardus: good to note I was being rather pedantic, normal users (and I identify as one) should not care about churning / output control
-
dsc_
so simple answer; go spend your Monero
-
leonardus
ok, thanks
-
leonardus
unrelated question - I'm getting ~3500H/s, how long will it take to mine something?
-
dsc_
leonardus: there are various hash rate calculators on the internet
-
dsc_
it also depends what kind of pool you are using
-
leonardus
not using a pool
-
moneromooo
About 1.5e9 / 7000 minutes.
-
moneromooo
er, 4 times that.
-
moneromooo
With very high variance, this is only the expected average currently.
-
leonardus
oh so pretty much not profitable :P
-
lza_menace
not at that hashrate
