Hey there, I have a question
-
lmt_
I'm currently looking into downloading Monero, and I'd like to know if it's possible to run a node on my headless server, and access it through a GUI on my PC
-
moneromooo
It is.

Thank you very much

kinghat[m], that article is all bs

I didnt read the article or have any position on it, just stating it out. Cheers

<rdymac "kinghat, that article is all bs"> hwen making such statement I fell is important to present the argument why that is/
-

RELATIVISM3, if you know a bit about what is happening in Venezuela, you'd know why the article is full of lies. As not everyone knows the reality of Venezuela, I'm just going to share this I said elsewhere: "if you finance the Venezuelan Government in any way you are banned completely from the US, but if you help the Venezuelan Government create an ICO to finance itself and you get a % of all txs, you are granted asylum"

Has I said I didn't even knew what topic/article you where referring to. Just trying to help out making the conversion more substantiated, so friction does not emerge as a consequence of it. But yeah I have been in Venezuela, and there is the need to be careful with the reasons that the western media reports for its crisis, It couldn't been further from the truth. Is yet again another great example of capitalism
-
RELATIVISM3
corrupting itself for profit (attention by this not defending a system where capitalism is not present, maybe just incorporate other important social policies) by financially bullying another sovereign countrie.

Personally i consider any article about south america coming from the US as probably bullshit. What they did through history to their neighbours is beyond horrible and media played a big role in covering stuff up.

Hey again, I'm setting up my own node on a local machine. I understand what the RPC ports do, but what is the purpose of the P2P ones? Do I need to allow incoming connections?
-
moneromooo
The P2P port allows your node to talk to other nodes. Mostly for keeping up to date with the blockchain. You don't strictly need to allow incoming connections, but doing so strengthens your connection to the network.

Thank you

ErCiccione[m]: it didnt speak very highly of Venezuela 🤷♂️

I'm trying to download the blockchain.raw file from the official site, however the connection speed completely drops after a minute of downloading
-
lmt_
How do I prevent that?
-
lmt_
Downloading through P2P gives me even worse speeds
-
selsta
Download using P2P.
-
selsta
It also verifies the blockchain so download speed usually isn’t the bottleneck.
-
lmt_
Going to do that then
-
lmt_
Is having the blockchain on a rotating drive very bad?
-
selsta
yes it slows things down a lot
-
selsta
but it will still work
-
lmt_
What exactly does it slow down?
-
lmt_
Just the synchronization process?
-
selsta
yes
-
lmt_
Is it a big problem after the initial synchronization is finished?
-
selsta
not really
-
lmt_
Thanks
