Just had someone who was not getting correct subaddresses in GUI - but further investigation showed they confused subaddresses with accounts - and that seems to be a legit confusion in the GUI atm

a couple of questions:

1. Is my understanding correct that you can have ~32bits/2 billion accounts, and each account can have ~32 bits / 2 billion subaddresses?

2. You can spend from multiple subaddresses in a single tx (potentially linking addresses), but you cannot spend from multiple *accounts* in the same tx?

It was confusing to the non-native english developer trying to figure out how to work with subaddresses

Im trying to run a monerod

When I try to start monerod today, it says attemp tto get block (latest block) failed, block isnt in DB

So it appears monerod isnt auto upating

the latest blockchain

So how can i either Clear my monero database and re-download? (Just delte the monero dir?) or set monerod to auto update to get the latest blockchain automatically

OK, looks like a real error then. There's a known rare-ish bug which can cause db corruption, you might have hit that, though the usual symptoms are different.

If that's what you hit, the only remedy is sync again.

"rm ~/.bitmonero/lmdb/data.mdb", then run monerod again.

Also, if you have an SSD, use that at least for the initial sync, it's *much* faster.

The full chain it ~80 GB, ~25 GB if you set it to prune.

And after it's synced, you can move it to a rotating HD.

With --data-dir /path/to/lmdb.

monerod doesn't deal with addresses. You want monero-wallet-rpc for this (which talks to monerod).

See --help for user/pass options.

the syncmode setting tells monerod not to flush more often than once every 10000 blocks

that will save some I/O overhead on the HDD
