im a fan of this shift for MRL funding. Indeed, couldn't MRL spinoff as its own non profit, receiving seed funds from Monero Core Team? That way its not really centralized. Its just a private, not-for profit entity that gets funding from whomever. whoever.

i know its somewhat non trivial to start a non profit... but my friends and I started a non profit with much less solid ground (almost as a joke) many years ago

Do you mean a kind of registered nonprofit like the Zcash Foundation is?

There are many rules, regulations, and requirements for doing so

and administration of such an entity would be an ongoing and time-consuming task, to be sure
