I submitted the PR with daemon connection fixes for Tails.

It binds the daemon rpc to port 17600 instead of 18081 and wraps monerod in torsocks.

Ports 17600 - 17650 are reserved for OnionShare, but since OnionShare picks a single random port from this range it's not an issue.

I'm kind of on the fence about adding an option to manually select the rpc port.

1) it complicates the settings menu

2) setting up an admin password to alter the firewall is bad practice and I don't think we should support that

On the other hand, I'm sure there are lots of people that followed Sheep's noob guide and have startup scripts for the daemon that bind the rpc to 18081.

Daemons on port 18081 can still be accessed but you need to connect to a remote node on localhost:18081, which is not intuitive.

If you are ignorant of alternative setup guides and simply download the GUI from Getmonero then everything now works out of the box. With the exception of clearnet remote nodes in bootstrap mode.

Also, it took a while to set everything up but I managed to test without static builds.

tobtoht: you can make the settings entry only appear in tails mode

so that it does not clutter it up normally

ok, i'll add that and figure out a way to relaunch with torsocks on Tails so bootstrap + clearnet nodes work

PR updated. Clearnet remote nodes in bootstrap mode working now and option to change rpc port added to settings.

Bootstrap mode is the daemon proxying RPC to another daemon while it syncs.
