For a community that prides itself on manipulating people, you can't manage a single guy that spends most of his time in his underpants :D

I'm investigating modifying the monero wallet to store the wallet cache data in LMDB instead of just dumping it to the wallet file on disk. Does anyone know if there has ever been any discussion about or work put into doing something like that? I see that there's some work being done on a light wallet that relies a bit more on LMDB, but I'm interested in retaining the same data as the full wallet locally, just stored differently.
-
moneromooo
There was a little discussion about it.
-
moneromooo
It needs a new version of LMDB, which supports encryption. There was a license problem at the time, now solved.
-
moneromooo
It's probably a fait bit of work.
-
moneromooo
It would be a good change, as it'd allow running CLI and RPC wallets at the same time, for example.
-
moneromooo
*fair bit
-
jato
Thanks, yeah I figured it would require some fairly heavy changes. Will continue to investigate the scope of how much work would be needed. Any idea if those discussions are in IRC logs or github and would have any useful info?
-
moneromooo
In this channel IIRC, but it was not mostly about needing to have LMDB support encryption (which it now does).
-
moneromooo
I don't remember anything about actual changes needed to monero code itself.
-
moneromooo
I think the big annoyance will be to convert all the wallet2 data structures into a number of key/value tables.
-
moneromooo
I suppose the complicated ones could still be stored as serialized blobs, that'd make things easier.
-
moneromooo
ie, transfer_details.

selsta, if you have nothing more to add to
monero-project/monero #7489 , I'd rebase soon.

Dear fireice_uk. I must strongly object to you reporting our great Monro community members to Freenode for racism AND getting people K-lined as a result! i.imgur.com/R0T9GGY.png THEY ARE NOT NEO-NAZI!!! THEY ARE JUST SAYING NEO-NAZI THINGS!! i.imgur.com/JYu44As.png I know this because they have been nice to me and made me their Magical Crypto Friend! If you don't cease immediately I shall throw another tantrum!

wirrickelliot[m]
what's the best way to contribute right now? gist patches?
-
selsta
If it is a one time patch, yes
-
selsta
if you want to contribute multiple patches we can add you to the repo
-
wirrickelliot[m]
if you could add me to the repo, that'd be great
-
selsta
wirrickelliot[m]: please PM luigi1111 your github email address

selsta, rebased 7489

selsta
mj-xmr: ok should be good to add now
-
mj-xmr
Thanks

selsta
mj-xmr: do you know what nproc resolves to?
-
selsta
3?
-
mj-xmr
selsta, always the number of available cores.
-
mj-xmr
Possibly also virtual.
-
selsta
would prefer to keep at 3 but not important
-
mj-xmr
I mean if there are virtual cores it always counts them.
-
selsta
e.g. on windows nproc would result in OOM
-
mj-xmr
Will do, while we're there
-
mj-xmr
selsta, done.

Hello, Monero has a CLI option --generate-from-device for generating a wallet using a (ledger) device, where can I see in the source code the CLI that handles this?
-
selsta
git grep generate-from-device
-
selsta
simplewallet.cpp most likely

Why lie about something that can be easily disproven? monerologs.net/monero/20201207#c165563 - github.com/fireice-uk/cryptonote-speedup-demo/blob/master/ecops64/ecops64-c.c#L4 Why steal from your community and then laugh at them? reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/6d6okb/what_fluffypony_just_did_is_not_ok Reason is the same - to laugh at morons that are gullible enough to believe you and repeat your lies.
