AdreikSo currently, as I understand it, if you lose the wallet data and restore from keys you lose all information regarding things such as what addresses you sent to? Would it be a good idea to have tx_extra write transaction metadata encrypted using your own private viewkey (e.g. saying "this transaction goes to 4... and has transaction note:
-
Adreik<tx_note>")?
-
AdreikAnd then when the wallet is rescanning the blockchain it could add such information back automatically
-
dEBRUYNEThere's a Github ticket on this if I recall correctly (with elaborate discussion)

Rawathi, I've noticed that monero-gui try to connect with some servers using port 53 before I open my wallet with password. My wallet is configured to connect with a remote node with the specific IP. I'm a little confused. ;) Why does it send DNS queries?
-
selstaRawat: which wallet mode are you using? you can check in Settings -> Info
-
Rawatselsta, v0.16.0.2-e0faddf (Qt 5.9.7)
-
selstawhich wallet mode?
-
Rawatgui
-
selstasimple mode or advanced mode? :)
-
Rawatselsta, what is the difference?
-
selstasimple mode starts the daemon which will use DNS for multiple things
-
Rawatwhat kind of things?
-
RawatI doesn't need use DNS, I blocked those queries and the wallet works.
-
Rawat*it doesn't need to
-
selstayes it is optional, it is used for updates, checkpoints, ...
-
selstaanyway let’s continue in #monero as this is not dev related
-
Rawatdefinitively it's not optional for the user. There is no option to disable this 'feature' ;)
-
Rawatselsta, but thanks anyway
-
selstait is, you can disable them
-
selstabut "simple mode" does not have all these advanced options
-
Rawatbut not with monero app ;)
-
selstathere are daemon flags you can set to disable all DNS requests
