<x[m]1 "So if matrix is federated, we tr"> Yes, you are trusting Core which runs monero.social to be a good counter party

xmrscott[m]1
Should you not like how they're maintaining the server you can migrate to another Matrix server if so inclined
-
x[m]1
oh ok
-
xmrscott[m]1
As compared to say IRC (freenode) where it's the freenode operator's way or the highway
-
x[m]1
just figured if it's all encrypted does it actually matter or is it the metadata that is what needs to be worried about less so the contexts of the messages?
-
x[m]1
but if I join another matrix server, i cannot join these matrix rooms correct?
-
xmrscott[m]1
Depends on your threat model. TMK Matrix.org is still working at rendering meta data less useful. You in theory can join these rooms from another Matrix home server
-
xmrscott[m]1
I say in theory because there's a known issue with monero.social's config that being worked on by the sysadmins
-
nioc
well matrix is bridging to IRC so you are still ultimately dealing with freenode
-
rupee[m]1
then all the IRC people could come over to matrix and we won't need the bridge anymore

I think there is a market manipulation by Tether. USD Tether is printing lots of tether. That's why all cryptocurrencies seem to be rising in USD (Tether) Price.

As ErCiccione said, the monero.social instance is being bridged to freenode, and then that IRC is bridged to matrix.org room of monero -- which is unnecessarily a roundabout way of "federating" between monero.social and matrix.org rooms.
-
mechanic41turk[m
I hope that will get resolved soon, and monero.social and matrix.org rooms will federate natively on the matrix protocol, and then the resulting messages will be relayed into the IRC.
-
mechanic41turk[m
That way, it won't be using the IRC bridge twice but once.
-
mechanic41turk[m
Maybe the matrix.org room will be deprecated and we will move the monero discussions to a room hosted at monero.social instance?

The solution would unite all the duplicated rooms in one
-
mechanic41turk[m
one room to rule them
-
Mumuks[m]
Well, you would still have each theme room separated, but the two monero markets would join, same for the others
-
xmrscott[m]1
<mechanic41turk[m] "Maybe the matrix.org room will b"> That is the hope, that the matrix.org rooms would be tombstoned once monero.social is fully brought up / fixed
-
-
Mumuks[m]
You can change the address of a room at any point
-
Mumuks[m]
What should have happened is that the existing rooms would have taken the new addresses too
-
Mumuks[m]
In fact, if you look at the old monero markets room it has taken the address moneromarkets:momero.social but it is the same old room
-
Mumuks[m]
That room has the addresses moneromarkets:monero.social, monero-markets:matrix.org and moneromarkets:matrix.org. It is this way so it can be discovered when searching in both servers, but despite the different addresses, it is the same room. That is how Matrix works.
-
Mumuks[m]
What needs to happen is the room that has the address monero-markets:monero.social needs to change its address to something like monero-markets-duplicated:monero.social, so the original room can take that address too. Then tombstone it, pointing to the original room, so they are merged in one.
