generally I guess ads ought to be purchased by for-profit companies whose business depend on the thing

but maybe some sort of informercial or ad campaign to simply raise the public's awareness of Monero

it would have to be at least 2 messages - 1 to introduce total newbies to the concept of cryptocurrencies, and 2 to point out why "1st generation" cryptos are toxic and why Monero is a better, more evolved solution

Dash spent millions on advertising and it did not seem to work for them.

A CSS to buy ad space is money down the drain. Ad campaigns work because of sustained pressure and it becomes an advertising addiction. Monero can't afford to take up heroin right now.

MO has taken more a PR approach since the costs are way, way lower and we have a better chance of getting multiple hits on a story. Most companies don't have news like Monero does,...they have to add 20% more chocolate chips or whatever.

Monero has amazing news every month or two,...truely legitmate news that people care about reading. No ad is going to outperform that at this stage in the adoption curve.

i think that a lot of the people that would find monero interesting use an adblocker too

but I'll note - I now see in-game ads on my phone for a Libertex financial app

and one of its slides is "trade bitcoin, eth, dash, litecoin"

so - Dash has put themselves on some of these guys' radars.

They are in the $200-$300 range per shot, and a member of MO has been paying that out of pocket. Doing more stories per period would be awesome, and/or $200-$300 is the base price....$500-$700 per story gets some extra insertions and allows the use of images,...those sorts of upsells that may or may not be valuable, but it's out of the budget to try.

getting some stores in more financial media - financial times, fortune, forbes - might be a good goal

I suspect images will more than double readership,...making the double price a bargain.

A budget for a press plan would help us out alot. One a month or every other month would be a good target. I don't think more than that would be possible. The news has to be genuinely good and exciting and then it takes quite a few hours to pull the whole story together.

Each PR tends to be a couple pieces,...there's the one that goes out to our press contacts and the wire service and then we've been having good success writing another version of the story but more for the Monero community,...more details, more technical, more informal. So each PR takes alot of effort to try to do well.
