Inge-: same talk we're talking about. i just referred to his talk as a closing keynote because it was the last talk during the 1st day of the livestream. it was awesome, since everything seemed thoroughly researched and based on facts rather than opinions. it is not the first time he talks about that paper though. the three main talks made by him are as follow: anarchapulco 2019, defcon 27 and now 36c3.

highly recommend to keep an eye out for any of his talks and for sure will catch up with other days of 36c3 along with dc27 and konferenco. lots of content and useful information out there. :-)

-
gingeropolous
my slightly loopy reddit post a month or so ago was ranting about naming this thing
-
gingeropolous
leads to sentences like this "any computer can efficiently calculate hashes to make RPC-Pay payments"
-
gingeropolous
i don't have a good substitute in mind

#gingeropolous - I can give some insight into the conversations we had on naming. It really started with an emergency maneuver to fix the name 'Pay for RPC'. RPC-Pay was on of the earliest and one of the safest names that came up. Google considers a hyphen to be a character and not a delimiter so this has some SEO strength which was a major design consideration.

The Reddit post brought out all sorts of good names, but names better suited for specific projects using RPC-Pay. For example, there were some good names using 'Tip',...but a tip is really a certain kind of transaction...so we were leaning more towards something more general for the protocol. Other name suggestions in that post were good but the SEO was crowded.

Ultimately it comes down to what the author wants, you should always be able to name your own baby. We wanted to help explore and do some of the research and help serve the process. We understand that jtgrassie was more comfortable with this more conservative name change.

Overall, I'd agree that RPC-Pay isn't as glamorous as it could be and a phasing like RPC-Pay payments should be re-worded,...but it is a hardworking name and seemed to me to be one of the better options. Anyway, not trying invalidate your concerns, just wanted to explain some of the background.

Probably not worth much, but I like RPC-Pay. Intuitive and descriptive.

I always liked HashTip
-
selsta
the average users has no idea what RPC is :P
-
selsta
but yes RPC-Pay is ok too
-
Inge-
Does the average user know what a hash is?
-
thunderosa
Yeah, that's exactly where the line is. The actual audience for Pay for PRC is developers and not the mainstream. RPC was such a compact complete description of it's nature that it seemed smart to keep it rather than have to explain it forever. HashTip is a good name,...for Primo.

ok looks like you have thought more about all this :D

MO spend a couple months on it. A lot of credit goes to Almutism for sticking this one out....naming is tough.
-

That doesn't mean we're right :) But we tried to think it through as best as we could.
